Did anyone else here know that Warner Bro's have cast the new Superman?

It's not Nick Cage (thank god),
It's not Dean Kane (thank [censored] for that),
It's not Tom Wellington from Smallville either!

..... so who is it I hear you ask ???

It's non other than unknown actor Brandon Routh (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0746125/) :o

I'll add my own feelings towards this decision later....

...for now, what does everyone else think?

never heard of him, but he has got the `look' that would suit the role.

:suspect: he's from the same place as slipknot? maybe they could star in it as well. :D would be amusing

I think its quite nice that he's unknown, after all wasnt Christopher Reeve when he first donned the cape and pants?

Maybe it's the way it's presented :P

Yeah he certainly has that look about him.

I only hope they don't screw up the writing/filming/production of the film now!

I agree, he does have that 'look' but like Ian says, lets hope they've got a decent script and storyline. The original Superman was the very first film I ever saw at cinema and remember walking out in amazement at the time.

The old Superman films have a certain magic about them, lets hope the new film can catch an essence of them and not ruin a classic with over the top CGI's, although I doubt this will happen!

You can be sure that this is going to be a huge release, because it has been in the pipeline for over ten years. There has already been some serious money spent on this film, including loads of scripts and the contracts with Burton, Cage etc.

I read the early script by Kevin Smith, and it wasn't THAT bad... maybe aimed too much at comic book fans, but different than the usual Hollywood films.

Is there anyone else who thinks that the red in the Superman suit (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0348150/BRSuperman.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Routh,%20Brandon&seq=3) could've been a little lighter? He kinda looks like evil version from Superman 3. I confess I'm a little disappointed :(

Official site is here (http://supermanreturns.warnerbros.com/)

I'm not expecting him to have as much screen presence as Chris Reeve (RIP) but I'll be going with a fairly open mind when it comes out next Summer. I'm sure the trailers will instill me with more confidence nearer the time :)

Should be more scarlet though yes :)

Why didn't they ask me to do it? IMO I'd look good in a Superman suit... :hihi:

And no, I wouldn't need to wait for them to bring it out in Burberry so bog off :P

Question: Why is it called "Superman RETURNS" has he been away on his hols?

Beakerzoid

To be honest...sort of. The film is set a few years after the older films, and Supes has been away from earth. Now, he returns to find that things have moved on...Lois has a new man, and a child....and the question is raised as to whether the world really needs Superman?

Hence, Superman Returns

Thanks for clearing that up.

I was wondering how they were gonna update the Superman franchise. So he's been away for YEARS, returns to a world that has moved on and learnt to live without him If it's done well, it will be a very good film.

PS Do you think they will make out Clarke Kent has taken a career break or been on long term sick!!!

If he was on long term sick I bet he'll be annoyed to find that he was only allowed 6 months on full pay and another 6 on halfpay before they cut him off.

Couldn't he pretend Lois's baby was his and take 3 months maternity leave as the father of the child . . . :suspect:

Exactly....

With regards to Clarke, I'm not sure what reason he will have for having been out of the picture for a while - but I can't wait to see the end result. I have confidence that Bryan Singer will do a good job.
