View Full Version : Top support for owls

Hi
I am beyond belief that the owls get the crowds they get, passion & crowd swell is in S6! 21,00 AVERAGE for being in the division lower than the swine!, they couldn't fill their sty for a game aginsed Real Madrid!
Bramall Lane is a pigsty & all the excuse is that they win it on the terraces, which shows that they are childish & act like immature halfbreads & are jealous to death, the crowds they get are abismal considering their position. Tonight we'll get nearly 30,000, MIDWEEK, second division!
Wednesday could be in the conference & United in Premier, but they will never be as big, cos they don't get the support, period!
& for all you unitedites, period means forever!! doohhh!

Oh the irony of it all!:loopy:

And by the way, how did the 'near 30,000' enjoy tonight's thrashing?

Don't forget, a London bus is bigger than a TVR Tuscan, but it ain't better or more desirable!

Why is it always left to panda79 to stick up for the lowly owlslies?

Is it that the Sheffield Wendy fans fall at the first hurdle every time they summon up enough brain cells to post a comment about football?.

Wednesday will never be a second divison club, they may be in the old second division but are way too good to be classed as that.

This is a time in history when the piglets at Bramall sty can actually look down on us, it's the first time in a long time for them so it's something unique. Something they haven't had for a long time and soon ( when the tables turn back in our favour ) something they wont have again for a long time.

Wednesday fans are not chavs like every unitedite you see - tracksuits, acne and fake jewellery. I am glad to know that as a Wednesdayite I have a better standard of life than the beer guzzling, chip-butty eating stigs that visit the Bramall Sty each week.

We here at S6 have far more pedigree and class and shouldn't rise to those lowly scum that think they have a right to take the p*** out of their grander and more brilliant neighbour.

Wednesday will always be greater, the blue and white fans should be proud that they have a wonderful ground, great fans and a history which is second to none.

As for the oink's! we didn't give you permission to grunt, so shut it!

Hope I dont sound bitter:hihi:

First time in a time for United to be looking down on Wendy? - And here was me thinking this would be the fifth consecutive season that United have finished above Wendy. And the 5th consecutive season that we have gone further in both major cup competitions (as a championship club we dont qualify to be able to lose to Chester Reserves in the LD Van Thingy Wotsit).

Wonderful ground - woeful ground due to a lack on investment caused by a £28 million debt and growing.

Pedigree and Class - centre half Guy Branston. No further comment required.

I grew up in the late 70s and early 80s going to school near and with loads of Wendy fans.

The best they can come out with - this is the TWENTY FIFTH anniversary of Boxing Day. Wow. Recent history eh! (and yes, I was at that game!)

So the right to take the p*** out of Wendy Fans? Too right I have the right!! And take the p*** I will

yes, you're right, I apologise for that outburst. What I meant to say was that Sheffield United fans are so intelligent and sophisticated its amazing to see why they are so hated by everyone.

They do not look like chavs, more chavs look like them.

Bramall Sty is.a.very.nice.ground and in no way resembles a vegetable patch.

All United fans do not have spots or acne or any yellow puss filled boils on any part of their bodies, especially their faces.

United fans do not live 15 to one council house and think they are 'reyt ard!'

Bramall Sty fans always wear their shirts and not only when their team is winning, this goes for their constantly high gates too.

Please accept my apologies, SUFC is a wonderful addition to such a pleasant part of Sheffield.

Lestat, your ongoing refusal to accept that Sheffield Wednesday are now a third-division club in a dire predicament, and continued repetitive bile against United and their fanbase is, quite frankly, pathetic.

I enjoy banter between fans but the points you raise (again and again and again) lack any real substance.

And wednesday, like every football club in the uk, have more than their fair share of chavs. Trust me, I know a few of them.

Lestat
09-12-2004, 14:33
Not only do I enjoy taking the mickey out of United and it's fans but the sad fact of it all is that sometimes the p***taking is not p***taking but actually true.

Why SUFC fans cannot understand that Wednesday are bigger and better is beyond me, it is there in black and white, or should I say blue and white. It's not exactly a subtle fact is it really?

scottf

Agent Gypo
09-12-2004, 14:41
Bigger? Ok, your fanbase is larger, and you have won more than united in the PAST. There are plenty of examples of clubs who historically have faired well in the league and cups who no longer enjoy former glories. Deal with it.

Better? Please... You've consistently placed lower than united since you were relegated from the premiership. You're now in a lower division, and not exactly setting it on fire are you?

Trust the Unitedites to get it all wrong. Silly us:loopy:

By the way Lestat, there are 2 Wednesdayites, 2 Unitedites, and a Rotherham supporter in our house and being of intelligent and mature bearing we discuss the teams sensibly through banter. We even admit it when OUR team is doing badly.

There must be more than a few Wednesdayites reading all this drivel and cringing with embarrassment. If you were (God forbid) a Unitedite I'd be begging you to belt up for the sake of the team's good name by now.

the less sportmanship comes from the desire to win at any cost!!

if there was not hatred between teams, ie wendy and united then crowds would dwindle, players would take less interest cause they would not get paid as much, and there would be less entertainment value

I have never disputed that Sheffield Wednesday have a bigger fanbase, bigger ground and higher attendence than Sheffield United. Wednesday have also won more trophies and spent more time in the top divisions.

However, I think there are more things to consider if you are to determine which is currently the bigger club.

I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible when I say this; United are in a higher league, have a better team of players, have a manager with a great promotion record and are financially better off.

This could all change in the future. Football has a cruel way of turning everything on it's head, especially with the amount of money involved in todays game.

Just out of interest, do you consider wednesday to be bigger than say, Wigan? They have lower attendances than both united and wednesday but are more financially sound, higher placed in the league and have a manager who has taken a team to the premiership before.

I would say both Arsenal and Chelsea are better placed to win trophies than Man Utd. Arsenal have looked incredible for a couple of years now, and Chelsea also look unstoppable at the moment.

This is not to say I consider Man Utd to be a poor team.

Er.......at this moment in time, Chelsea are better that Arsenal, and Arsenal are better than Man Utd, and Man Utd are better than Swindon and Swindon are better than Accrington Stanley.

Man Utd might have been better than Arsenal at some time in the past, and may be again in the future, but at this time, and according to league placings, Arsenal are better than ManUtd.

I typed slowly as you probably have difficulty reading fast as well!

THANK YOU!  THATS ALL IT TOOK!

As for the question about Wigan, No I dont think they are a bigger club. I know money is a major part in today's game but you have to look at other aspects of the club as well. Like the opportunities to attract good players, a board that actually cares about the clubs interests and not it's own pockets.

They may be financially sound at the moment but they must prepare for the higher leagues if they are to do well, alot of teams have gone up and then once they got relegated have not been able to get a secure foothold on the spending they were used to and also the lost revenue soon catches up with a team.

This is an extract from a document from the Sheffield Local History Society, which can be viewed at Sheffield's Central Library.

"The Wednesday football club was formed on 4th September 1867. The football club first played its games at the Olive Grove Sports Ground in Heeley before moving to a new stadium in the Owlerton district of Sheffield.
The first Ordnance Survey maps (1850's) mark a building close to where the stadium now stands as 'Swine Cottage'. They also show another farm on Penistone Road, south of where the North Stand is situated, which was also believed to be a large piggery. Pork farming is thought to have been practised in the area since the early 1800's, and did not cease until around 1900 when the city's rapid expansion put an end to livestock production in the area. At its height the "Owlerton Piggery," as it was known, provided work for some 50 employees.
Initial discussions about a nickname began soon after the Wednesday arrived at Owlerton. In reference to their new home, most club officials were in favour of "The Owls." However, another suggestion was also popular. In view of the area's strong tradition of pork farming, a popular grass-roots alternative was "The Pigs."
Although the name "Owls" prevailed, many working class supporters continued to refer to their team as "t'pigs." A popular song of the time "They may be t'Owls to some, (but they'll always be pigs to me)" was performed in music halls across South Yorkshire. As late as the 1920's, fans used to welcome their team onto the field with the characteristic grunting sound we still associate with the club. This peculiarity was once referred to by BBC commentator Edward Milburn, who famously described Hillsborough as a "sea of grunts" moments after The Wednesday won the First Division title in 1932.

Hee hee. You obviously don't watch your beloved Fowls then do you!! Or understand Sturrocks brand of "football". Or by reading your incredibly childish drivel thats gone before, understand football full stop.

Your boys are a pretty poor side, hence your playing your second consecutive season in what is the old Third Division. Since you keep harping on about the past, the last time the team from S2 played two consecutive seasons in that division was in 1984.

So please, explain, as you've beeen asked four times (to my count) and never answered, why your club is bigger? The only thing that seems bigger to me is its £28 million debt.

I think most Wednesdayites claim their club is bigger is due to our more colurful and illustrated history. It is fair to say that we have had the more success 20years ago as we were in the Premiership, winning big matches but it is amazing how things can turn so quickly.
When we were in the Premiership, Danny Wilson decided to make us lose loadsa money by buying "better" players who only got us relegated and then we lost loadsa money on them which is one of the main reasons we are £20million in debt.
One of our players in the squad is still on a really high wage packet and he hasn't played all season, he is crap and is on an appearance fee but Allen still will not see sense and release the *******.

I'll be the first to admit that the Owls are a better followed club, and that the ground is bigger. So yes, you get a lot more people turning up to a bigger ground...granted. That's not in dispute!

But what all those people who turn up, spend a fortune and cheer on is in fact a worse team than the Blades have. So, as football is based on the actual match and result, it follows that the size of the ground and the number of people there doesn't count.

It's no good owning a Rolls Royce with a knackered engine and no wheels, and watching some bloke in a Lada go sailing past and thinking, 'Ha, ha...Look at that poxy Lada, at least I've got a Rolls.'

Just heard on the news that Wednesday are thinking of signing three new black players.

One will be doubling up as youth coach and is expected to play with the kids on occasion.......M. Jackson I think he's called.

One is the new No.1 goalie called R. Charles, and the third is a defender called S. Wonder.

Sturrock reckons that Charles and Wonder should see the team to the play offs, and Jackson - when not playing for the first team - will familiarise the youngsters with things like 'dribbling', 'holding their own' in a confined space, and 'handling an opponent's tackle'.

A: Because that's the only way he can pick up any Premier points!

A little boy took his parents to court because he did not want to live with them anymore. The honored judge said to him "So why don't you want to live with your dad?"
"Because he beats me" said the little boy.

Because she beats me aswell.
"Oh" said the judge "Well who would you like to live with then?"
The little boy replied" I would like to live with Sheffield United, because they don't beat anyone!!"

, i'v read all the post s & not replied due to time & work!, but if all the facts were put to an independent, un-biased person, nonetheless Owls fan (just stating FACTS) person, they would obviously say that Wednesday are the bigger club, by a huge length, in the city!

Currently, United are doing better, (even though they have inferior ground & crowd swell), they are not attracting the fanbase that Wednesday would be if roles were reversed. But as Wednesday get 28.000 for a game againsed Hull & 22.000 AVERAGE, for all games, It's Fact & even a pig could understand this! Would the swine get these crowds if they were as bad as us!
Even Worldwide, we have greater fanbase!

Man Utd aren't the best supported team in Manchester, anywhere within 50 miles square of Manchester.

Wednesday have played in Europe, experienced games againsed the then current German champs, "Kaiserslautern" experienced 2 unsuccessfull cup final results, yes 2, in 1 season. 1 is a fluke, 2 no!, a great team that was.
The fluke was that the swine were involved!

Truth & statistical facts is that Wednesday are more supportive.
United fans are chavs that wear silly burberry caps & go around pretending to be hooligans & thats what they do! Maybe primary school is where they should be!
All those piggys that do that are little boys who need help!

nobody is denying weds have a bigger fanbase! that has never been a factor, what some people was trying to say was that they was better than shefield united, they may have BEEN better previously, but as it stands it is no longer the case!

as for the 2 unsuccesfulcup final results, i beg to differ that it was not a fluke, you look back at boro who did such a feat but got relegated in the same season!! does not show a quality of a team,
we got to 2 semis in one season, this was another fluke!

Here's some other facts.
Both teams are in lower divisions struggling to get out of them.
Both teams have idiotic supporters who think they're real hooligans by wearing crap clothes.
Both teams have a dump of a ground.
Both teams can't attract decent investment
Both teams have never achieved anything of note to rock the football world throughout their history (cup semi finals and finals mean sod all when you don't win them)
Both teams have players which would be incapable of keeping them in a higher division (should that ever happen).

So in fact you have lot more in common than you think apart from the city of origin.

Both teams have idiotic supporters who think they're real hooligans by wearing crap clothes.

Wibbles: Both teams have a dump of a ground.

another strange point, i remember when wednesday came from top league they had the best paying sponsor outside the top flight

Wibbles: Both teams have never achieved anything of note to rock the football world throughout their history (cup semi finals and finals mean sod all when you don't win them)

we have both won a few cup finals and leagues (albeit not many)

I'm talking about NOW not way back when.
United have been trying to get out of Division 2 (sorry..the Championship) for a very long time and haven't succeeded as Wednesday have done the same in Division 3 (sorry again..League 1)

I am in Sheffield and I see the state of both grounds on a regular basis and they are both a dump.

I'm not disputing both teams have won some minor trophies but like I say not exactly footballing history is it.

With regards to the players..I am talking about both.

By the way..just because the clothes are expensive doesn't make then good. Ask anyone if they'd be seen dead wearing a burberry cap, Stone Island jacket and Rockport shoes combo.

Agent Gypo
14-12-2004, 12:09
Both our grounds are in a state, lets face it. Bramall Lane isn't exactly huge, and we wouldn't fill it even if it was. Hillsborough is bigger but falling to pieces.

Neither of us has a great sponsorship deal (HFS Loans??? Casino's???)

Both clubs have hooligan trouble.

Both clubs are likely to be in the lower leagues for a while longer. Wednesday are struggling to hit form in division 3 and United really need a striker who can hit 20 goals if they want to get anywhere.

Both clubs would struggle in top flight football due to their debts.

Neither of us has won anything for years, and coming close like my team (United) did a few years ago isn't something that is particularly relevant NOW.

And obviously Wibbles, alot of people would be seen dead in burberry hats, stone island and rockport clothes. I see them every day in the city centre, in and around football grounds, meadowhall, council estates, hunters bar and so on...

And no, I don't wear them!

The swine are an inner city club that have a decent enough ground. This is me a died in the war Wednesdayite. But only descent in the fact that it holds 29,000 or so, compared to some other clubs in their division.
But the fact someone has been within that ground & built bricks & trod over the threshhold of the shop is something someone that not knowingly, will be able to wash off their hands!

Hillsborough is a top ground, falling apart, maybe in some areas, but not some no-history ground stuck in the middle of an industrial estate like Derby or Sunderland!
If Wednesday were exceptionally successful again & decided to move to a 60, 000 ground in an area like don valley, it would be bad!
I wouldn't go, SWFC & Hillsborough are the same thing, add on, yes, not move!

Well it was there earlier, but it seems to have disappeared now. I hope a mod didn't decide it was too controversial to allow someone to admit to being a Liverpool supporter... someone has to support them! :o
