FRIDAY 6th JULY

JIM MASTERS (HI-TEK SOUL/INTEC)
GEOFF TICEHURST

* Brand new outdoor smoking area out the back of the club. Tables and chairs included! *

GROUNDED is delighted to welcome one of it’s favourite guests, JIM MASTERS, for a Friday night rave off on July 6th. As resident at the Hi-Tek Soul celebrations of all things Detroit and techno with Derrick May, he’s one of the UK’s best and most unsung purveyors of late night electronics…

Mr Masters first locked horns with dance music during the 1980s where he fell in love with acid jazz and rare groove. From that moment he flung himself headfirst into dance music. His rise to the top has been in line with developments in dance and the mainstream’s embrace of clubbing culture. He’s been an instrumental player in the global success of electronic music, always as one of it’s more unassuming, yet most hard working heroes.

His CV shows just why he’s held in such high regard by the clubbing community. The Base evenings (which he co-promoted with one of the big men of techno, Carl Cox) were one of the longest running and popular of techno nights going off at Velvet and The End and rumbling through numerous clubs across Europe.

Masters worked for Touch magazine, was part of the original crew at Kiss FM and was a driving force behind the Ministry of Sound brand. Responsible for Ministry’s press and promotion he was also a director and took them to the degree of world dominance the brand enjoys today. He established the highly popular Sessions series and also set up the Drum Club which featured debut performances from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Leftfield and DJ Sneak.

While holding down numerous international residencies Jim also records for Carl Cox’s Intec label as String Theory with fellow sonic auteur Philip Barry. He somehow found time to run his own label Open which featured releases from the likes of Carl Craig, Green Velvet and Francois K and attained cult status with Paper People’s seminal ‘Throw.’

This talented fellow is a true heavyweight within computerised late night music and while he’s succeeded within all his projects, it’s his skills behind the decks where he truly shines. For Detroit legend Derrick May to have him as resident at his Hi-Tek Soul nights shows you just high a regard he’s held by the techno fraternity. How he can hold his own while playing with the likes of May, Kevin Saunderson, Rolando and Stacey Pullen is a true reflection of the talents of the man…

This is an intimate evening in the company of a great Djing talent and a banging kick start to a summer full of hot Fridays with the Grounded crew at Plug. Get involved…
