Not having been in Sheffield for a few years I have forgotton all the good restaurants. The ones I remember may not be there any more and obviously there must be new ones now.
I am coming home in October and I would like to take my hubby for a good steak. As an American he knows his beef and enjoys a nice filet mignon or t-bone.
Any suggestion please would be appreciated. My parent don't eat out much so they have no idea.

Thanks.

The Boardwalk American Diner at the Centertainment Complex in Attercliffe. Well nice, well big portions. I'm off to there on Friday... YUMMY!

Are you suggesting that we come all the way to Sheffield to eat in an American Diner?
Let me know what's on the menu. What are the prices like?
Thanks.

I don't think you'll find steaks the size that you get in your part of the world. Sad but true.

True.
Where do they get the beef from these days?
Last time I was home y'all were eating australian beef.
Are people still worried about mad cow disease?

Nah, the T Bones were banned for a while too!!

I used to recommend the Clock Tower in Meadowhall, but the last time we went the service was appauling and we walked out in the end.

Sorry can't be of anymore help

I'd prefer a traditionally English restaurant. However, to be perfectly really honest with you, I'd go for a curry any day. There aren't any Indian restaurants here and hubby has never eaten a curry before. He doesn't fancy anything like that at all.
We have plenty of mexican places here and being on the coast we have loads of seafood restaurants.
Country pubs with loads of grub and decent beer will be great for my Dad. He is a typical Brit and hates foreign food.
The way to a man's heart is through his stomach right? So I have to find a great place and keep all the men in my life happy. It's a tough job but I'm up for it.

That sounds typical of the english service industry. Maybe they should all start working for tips like they do here and people would actually care about the customer service that they provide.
We tip approx 15% of the bill, even when buying a beer in a bar.
These people then hustle as fast as they can, and so bartenders and waiters make a fortune. We pay for good service and expect it too.

And another thing, English people need to complain more.
The only way to improve service is to let restaurants know what their problem is so that they can correct it and make it better for the next person.
My dad's attitude about bad service is "we're never coming here again" He pays the bill and leaves.
A comment whether it be good or bad should be welcomed by the establishment so that they can make amends and change it.
I'm from a nation that rarely complains, whereas the Americans are certainly not shy about telling you what they think. Too much sometimes I can tell you and some people should be hung, drawn and quartered. I work in a hotel so I know about complainers; but they always leave happy because we fix the problem and learn from the experience.
So I will get down from my soap box now and say to all you waiters, waitresses and bartenders: Be nice to your customers, care about what their needs are and more importantly, SMILE (even if you hate them) :D You might get a good tip. $$$

If you want somewhere a bit special try Chez Lahlu (not sure of spelling!!) Commonside, Walkley. French restraunt really cosy, huge portions. Its only small so I'm sure if you asked when you booked they would get in a T-Bone.

A good place for a steak is the New Norfolk Arms, Manchester Rd, Hollow Meadows. (Nr Rivelin Dams) Basically its a pub with restuarant quality food.

Had a rib eye there recently and it was superb, about a 1lb of meat and cooked to perfection.

Are you kidding, take my American husband in a French restaurant??
Sorry, but the French are not very high up on the people's popular awards list right now.
Thanks anyway.
Actually the New Norfolk Arms sounds good. A nice British country pub with good food, and good beer.

Correct. The Battle of Waterloo in 1805!

I just don't fancy the idea of eating something that has crawled along my garden path, thank you very much.

I know its not in Sheffield but if you are planning on doing some sightseeing the Whitestonecliffe Inn (http://www.whitestonecliffe.co.uk/) near Thirsk in North Yorkshire does an excellent fillet steak.
I have been there a few times, the service is good and the portions are huge.
It's a traditional pub in a great area, you can see the White Horse on Sutton Bank as you drive up the A1.

My grandparents live in Penistone, so we will make it up there for a visit. I have a best friend who runs the Spangled Bull in Kirkheaton near Huddersfield. We may even drive up to Scarborough too. So we'll probably see a lot of Yorkshire.
Thirsk: is that far?

Thirsk isn't too far from Scarborough. If you are in that area, you should definetly try and visit Knaresborough if you can.

I can only ask you to keep away from one Steak Restaurant, the Sitwell at Renishaw. Overcooked and overpriced rubbish. They have a steak night, a one give a miss!!

Sorry to be a pedant but a pendant is usually something you hang around your neck.

In my experience italian restaurants do some of the best steaks in sheffield.

I tried BB's recently, but it wasn't as good as i'd be told.

Picolo's on west street does a very nice steak though, and a good pepper sauce.
Artisans (when it was still Thyme) did a decent steak.
And possibly the best that i've had (in sheffield) the curators house. Planning to go again later this month (I think it was 18 months ago that we went). It's a bit expensive though.

Damon's at Crystal Peaks does a fantastic fillet mignon. I live just round the corner and I can smell it wafting in my kitchen window every night.
