Sydney has just come in stinking of petrol and wailing miserably.

He was obviously in great distress, and licking away at his paws.

We have washed him, more distress.

Will he be ok now?

What will have happened to his system for swallowing petrol?

Hiya,

Keep a CLOSE eye on him. Take his collar off of him and make sure he's clean.

Don't make him sick - I'd be prepared to call the vet if you're at all concerned.

I would make sure the petrol is definately all off, this happened to our cat once and the vet gave us some special shampoo to make sure there was nothing left in his fur.

Im sure he will be ok. I would however call the vets and ask for some advice. There out of hours number is (vets Now): 01142421929

I know I shouldnt laugh as your situation is worse but to lighten the subject my cat has just come in and looks like he has laid under a car! he has one black strip down his side on his white fur! it does look funny! :)

Two hours late with this one, hopefully the vet has been contacted by now for advice - the petrol will I think burn his throat and at the least make him sick if he has tried to wash himself.

I contacted the vet and they said to give Sydney some milk to line his stomach and to keep an eye on him.

He seems ok at the moment *fingers crossed*

Awwww- poor Syddie. I hope that he's doing fine after his wash and didn't ingest enough to make him ill.

Give him a love off me- I know that bathing a cat is usually no fun at all, but sometimes it's necessary for their health whether they like it or not.

What was the shampoo tatty? Olliekitten - if you need a special shampoo - let me know, I have some special medicated stuff called malaseb that I will probably never use (and you won't need that much for a cat anyway!) so you can borrow it if you need it.

Hope Sydney is ok :(

Dont know what it was called. It was in a white bottle with green writing on. :)

Think weve had that one before when Ailsa had skin problems. Hope siddie os cleaning up nicely- he's probably been hanging around under parked cars, that's usually how cats end up geting petrol n oil on them- that or exploring open garages and sheds. Dont think anyone would have maliciously put petrol on him - at least, I'd rather not think so- more likely he's got it on him whilst being curious.

We found out where the petrol came from. The car that usually parks outside our house has a petrol leak and its the one Syd likes sitting under.

Cheers for the advice everyone,
Syd is completely fine again,
