Just spent the last few months doing a full restoration on yet another MK I I acquired this year, a 1.3 Ghia 'Y' reg in metallic gold (what else). Its just gone to the paint shop for a full paint job so hopefully can get some pix up next week.....it was a good car anyway, but replaced the rear wheel arches and rear wing sections which were starting to rot outwards. A few other bits and bobs took me about 2 months on and off, new choke (took ages to find one which worked), etc...

Hopefully will get it to the Hope classic car show on 16th july..........not to be confused with my other 2 gold MK I Fiestas, the 'X' reg 1.3 GL, and the 'W' reg 1.1 L............

might be a slight delay......expect it to be another few days in paint shop as its metallic 2 pack paint job and then still got to get the original electric auto choke working.....manual replacement did not work properly, despite being a genuine item......and a few little things to finish off inside....a jammed window winder is one laborious job to be done......

You will never be finished. You should know that by now. There will always be something to do.

Yeah I know......
My other one, 1982 1.3 GL (Jessica) is starting to look very tatty around the headlamps....might be time for new wings on her, was hoping to avoid that, but the rot has set in since December and its eaten away a fair chunk....too much in fact to make any realistic use of filler.......which means a paint job on that one too probably.....

will be taking one of them to the hope show anyway.....

Phylis is holding out better than expected. The front wing which has been rotting for the last 4 years is still rotting but not as quick as it should. The MOT tester pointed out that the front cross member was like a weetabix but other than that she still looks good. Ripping her apart this winter for a well earned refurb.

More delays.....still cant get a suitable replacement manual choke, the original electric one is fried, and the manual conversion which was there when I acquired her was bodged beyond belief...useless..tried another one and that was also useless..have another one on order but it could be a fiddly job this.....may just end up relacing the carb with a bog standard one........dont think she will make the classic car show at Hope after all......but XLL my other one will certainly be there.......

The standard carbs are useless. Thats what Phylis has at the minute. It just floods fuel in when you dont need it and starves it when you do. We have aquired a Weber for her but need a longer choke cable as the connection is on the other side of the carb.

Just waiting to sort out the manual choke conversion which was bodged completely by a previous owner. And then its done........

1982 Bravo 1.3, quite a rare model I think, does that have the sunroof fitted?

I have had several MK I's all 1.1 engines with standard manual choke carbs and I must say generally they seem a lot more reliable than the later automatic versions, which have always given me substantial grief....this is my 1.3 MK I with an auto choke factory fitted, and also the 3rd one which has proved either to have failed completely or has been sabotaged with some generic DIY manual conversion kit which is just not suitable and never works either......

maybe just been unlucky with these....

yep it has a sunroof fitted, just been to pick it up and i love it, drives so well, needs some surface rust treating and could do with a respray once thats done, but other than that i cant fault it

Sorry to disappoint you but there is no such thing as surface rust on a Ford. If its rusty on top, its rusty everywhere. Trust me i speak from experience.

Where did you get the leopard skin seat covers from?

missed the show....AGAIN!!!!!
seat covers came from the USA, only place I could source quality covers from, only versions in the UK were cheap black and white tat really thin and nasty......AMericans are obviosuly into this stuff as the website had hundreds of animal print covers, all top quality and thick luxury fabrics too.....
