im not a whizz with computers and could do with some help or advice.
i bought a computer for my girlfriend to use when she was at uni last year but dont really need it now.
we got it from a friend of a friend who "built" it for us from new and installed alsorts of different packages on it windows XP prof, dvd/cd re-writer.
i just dont have any idea how much to ask or sell it for
You could always take it to a shop and see what they think. Maybe sell it to a friend or family member?
It would help if the spec was posted and ask for a valuation on here

what would you need to know
Need to know whats inside, stuff like processor, memory, graphics card, motherboard etc. PC's can be quite hard to put a good price on, because hardware prices are changing all the time, but sure someone one will be able to give you an idea.

Put it on ebay and see how much people are willing to bid for it. But put like a stupid reserve on it so it doesn't sell, you'll still be able to see how much people are willing to pay. Put all the details, it's worth a try it'll only cost about £1.50, or even less
i dont know if this helps to get a valuation on it but its got a celeron processor, 2 ghz, 480mb ram, windows xp, photoshop, cd/dvd re writer, flat screen monitor with speakers.
if someone could give me a valuation or if you interested in buying it then please get in touch,
thanks

Thats pretty low spec TBH, I would estimate about £120 depending size of monitor and if software has licenses.
