View Full Version : Suggest a name for my beautiful new cat

I have a new kittie to add to the brood! I don't have a photo of him yet, but I'll post one when I manage to find him sitting still for two minutes.

Although he's no longer a kitten, he's tiny; much smaller than the other two. He's short-haired, mainly white but with a ginger tail that quivers when he's really happy (especially when being fed). He also has small splodges of ginger on his head. He has bright blue eyes, but one has a little splodge of amber in it. He also has the most pathetic meow you're ever likely to hear.

In short, he's gorgeous, but he's also nameless. What shall I call him?

I've already had suggestions of Splodge, Tiny and David Bowie (due to the odd eyes), though none of those have really appealed to me.

How about Van, Turk or Delight? Turkish Van cats are white with ginger tails and ears.

I think those would give him delusions of grandeur (not that he needs any more of those, being a cat); he's very definitely a Heinz moggie. Plus, Turkish Delight makes me barf, so I can't have that  .

Hi Hecate!

I can't offer a name but can offer you JoeP's Law of Cat Naming.

"Whenever you name a cat, imagine shouting it out at midnight from your doorstep whilst the local drunks walk past."

Anyting taht passes that test is usually acceptable. :)

It was entirely on that basis that a cat I used to know was named- she was called Harlot.

LOL thanks, Joe. I believe the dubious motivation for suggesting the name 'David Bowie' was something along those lines  .

He sounds like a Ziggy or a Gizmo to me. Ziggy would still have the David Bowie link as in Ziggy Stardust. :) And Gizmo had the big beautiful eyes.

Yep, same. We had a cat called Timber, for that reason.

One extra-long, extra-sharp pin in the voodoo doll for you this evening, mate :hihi:.

I rather like Ziggy. I'll run it past him, see what he thinks. He's starting to respond to 'Kitty' (imaginative, eh?), which is entirely too girly for him. Better make a decision quick before he gets used to it.

Our boys sister was called doodle bug (doodle for short), her owner lived near an old folks home :) no wonder the cats got a complex!

What was that band called? Splodgenessabounds! (or splodge for short, seeing as he has ginger splodges on his head!)

I agree with Joe, with the name thing. My mate once called her cat pussy, its the honest truth. When it went missing all we got was sniggers from lost posters she put up

I also like the name Sprocket for boy cats- don't know why, there's no sense to it really.

Sprocket is a pretty cool name, never heard that one before

TEFLON THE GREAT would be nice

Well, he wasn't too impressed with Ziggy as a name. Someone's suggested Xander, though I'm not sure if I'm that much of a Buffy fan. I rather like another suggestion - Rowan - though some are under the impression that that's a girly name. I'm quite taken with it though. Decisions, decisions.

I'll try to capture him for a photo tomorrow.

FRED! After drop dead fred. He had red hair. I loved that film!

Hecate
30-06-2007, 21:47
LOL I rather like Fred. I just don't think he looks like a Fred. He's more of a Dave, I think. But I'm not standing in the garden shouting 'Dave' at gone midnight  .

Tut. No vacancies, mate ;) .

Now, give me a mog name suggestion before I get my other voodoo doll out for you  .

Hmmm. It's not really him. I'd have no trouble if he was a little girl mog. I can think of lots of lovely names for girly kitties.

Gerald and Gordon aren't doing much for me, I'm afraid :hihi: .

I have photos!

Kitty 1 (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/ppn_2204/Kitty1.jpg)

Kitty 2 (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/ppn_2204/Kitty2.jpg)

Kitty 3 (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/ppn_2204/Kitty3.jpg)

He looks a little grubby in places. It's been a muddy day in the garden.

Gordon is the name of any more female cats I have, along with Bernard.

What a beautiful cat!! His eyes are amazing :) xx

Ziggy is a good name. That or Jasper, but Ziggy suits him down to the ground.

Gorgeous gorgeous eyes! I would be inclined to go with Bowie due to the eyes or Ziggy :) I also like Dipstick - Dippy for short?

my nut-free ginger boy is affectionately known as Nuts...i don't mean to blow my own trumpet, but it strikes me as a fantastic name for any cat with ginger tendancies. i'll let you borrow Nuts as a cat name, if you like. grudgingly.

Thank you for all the suggestions and lovely comments about my little boy :) . He does now - finally - have a name. I've decided to call him Dante.

Both Ziggy and Xander were close contenders, as was Jasper (but next door's dog is called that) and Willow (which would have been his name if he was a little girl).

Thanks very much once again :) .

...and a fantastic choice you have made.

a friend of mine had a cat called Luci (as in lucifer), and i'll be honest - it suited him very well indeed. i hope Dante is more of a thinker than Luci was.
