How does that work, can they skip a generation? Forgive my snakey ignorance, know absolutely zilch about reptiles :help:

Hi

Without going in to full genetics it's a bit difficult to explain but basically...
Although we thought both of our snakes were 'normal' (as far as colouration and pattern is concerned) they must both have been carrying amelanistic (lack of black pigment) genes and motley (a pattern variation) genes without us knowing. In this instance there is a 1 in 16 chance of getting an amelanistic motley baby. Couple this with the fact that we didn't even know they were carrying the genes and we got a real surprise!!

Two more of the babies have just popped their heads out of the eggs so we'll see what these come out as!

Hi Carpetviper

I've sent you a PM.

Don't have any charts but have just knocked some up at work that I will record hatching date, sex, feeding and shedding on - I guess that's all I need?

Thanks
Sarah

Yeah thats good enough. I find it adds another dimension to the sale of any reptile when its a young one. If kept on into adulthood like I have with my snakes it gives excellent reference for when they dont feed or are going off their food not to mention is very attractive to potential buyers.

Hi

All of the others were normal in colour which is very bizarre!
I'll get some more pics soon and post them in this thread.

Shame about the Royals not breeding....Royals can be a bit funny like that though can't they? Only breeding every couple of years is quite common I think.
