Apparently, it's near enough a done deal. I do think he's a good signing for United, but a terrible piece of business!

The thing is, as I recall, he didn't want to go, but went on his Dad's say so. To be fair, at the time, he wasn't going to get first team football, but Scunny wouldn't agree to a long term loan deal.

Whichever way, I hope he scores bucketloads for us.

Bad business? How?

Bad business? How?

If you sell something for £100,000 then buy it back a year later for £2 million, it's generally considered bad business.

For a start it was two years.
Now suppose you sell your house for a certain amount and suddenly property prices in that area go through the roof during the next two years.
Now you want to buy your house back.
Do you expect to pay less than someone else ?
It's called economics, the price is dictated by the market. :suspect:

Precisely, but it's still bad business in today's market!!!!

That's still pretty bad that you had to buy back your 'house' for an inflated price!

If you'd only held onto the 'house' (billy sharp) and invested in it!

The crucial point is that Sharp wanted to leave to get first team football.
There was no way that United (Warnock) would guarantee that.
He blossomed at Scunthorpe and probably proved his point.
That may or may not have happened had he not gone.
Also United bought Colin K-R for 150 thou ( I think) and sold him for 1.275 mill
Swings and roundabouts.

So why not loan him out for a year and see what happens instead of selling him off cheap?

Cos he rejected a loan move too.

Scunthorpe wouldn't take a loan deal. It was sale or nothing. St Warnock let him go despite the fact he didn't want him to, rather than stifle his career.
