Any hints or tips or recommendations for a venue?? scottf 07-12-2004, 01:33 PM Start small and get some drinks offers on and know your market e.g- where you are going to advertise it, how much u r gonna charge. sheffbag 07-12-2004, 03:12 PM check out other clubs doing similar nights - make sure you dont clash with other more established nights, if so then look at being a pre-club venue maybe so you can advertise your night first and get it built up before you expand it. Check out the clientele - if poss speak to them about where else they go and try to gauge if there is room for the night you want to put on - there are some genres that are over suscribed to in sheff and therefore dilutes audience, i dont know the indie scene so cant comment but northern soul should go down alright with older audience so look at what night your target audience goes out. no point putting a night on if your audience is sat at home. dont spend more than you can afford, a lot of nights go full out and fail within a month because the promoters over-estimate the crowds and pay for too much. Anything you can blag, rooms, sound systems, advertising - if its free then use it, Free advertising includes metro paper, on sheffield forum, The guide on Hallam Fm - use it all I agree withthe other forumster, start small and build up your audience, get word of mouth around that its a good night. On the other hand good luck with it and remember "if you play, they will come" gaztat 07-12-2004, 05:08 PM cheers for that. NE idea on a venue? wanna start with a small ish one.
