Exhibition of the Sheffield Festival Centre Open Design Competition
18 June - 29 June
Showroom, Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2BX.
Sheffield Media Centre Ltd invited architects and architect-led teams to submit design concepts for a new landmark building which will provide a key gateway to the city and extend the facilities provided by the Showroom Cinema and Workstation.
The competition attracted an excellent international response and the six shortlisted teams are:
Carmody Groarke
HLM Architects
Houghton Budd Architects
Jason King Associates
Prue Chiles Architects
Sadar Vuga Arhitekti
The exhibition is open for viewing until 29 June. Please come along and give us your opinions on the shortlisted designs.
We are also screening the new architectural documentary film Sketches Of Frank Gehry (12A) from this Friday 29 June. The film is a journey into the creative process that has placed Gehry at the top of any list of visionary architects. His buildings across the globe consistently become iconic centrepieces of the cities in which they are built, from the Guggenheim in Bilbao to the EMP Museum in Seattle. What makes this documentary even more engaging is the man behind the camera and the roster of household names he calls on to illuminate his subject. Director Sydney Pollack is a lifelong personal friend of Gehry – and it shows in the rapport and respect the two men evidently have for each other.
Showing times are:
Fri Sat 2.45 4.40 6.40 8.40
Sun Mon Tues Wed Thur 2.45 4.45 6.45 8.45
