Hi,

I'm new to this forum, so be gentle on me.

Me and my wife are looking to move up to Sheffield, as i will be starting uni in September. We are currently looking for somewhere to rent around the £425-450 p.c.m mark.

We have seen the Parklands development advertised, but reading on here i'm not too sure now. Is Parklands really that bad, especially around S2 1HT? Me and my wife will be commuting late, and want to feel safe.

What kinda areas would you guys recommend?

Thanks In Advance

Now before everybody jumps on the band wagon, this is my personal opinion.

I personally wouldnt look in that area. I would look at the terraced houses in Abbeydale (the lakes) They are cheap to rent and are close to supermarkets, millions of bus routes, and local pubs.

Welcome, sean, and Mrs-sean!

Parklands has been discussed at length in other threads on here.

A lot of people will probably come on here saying "avoid like the plague, it's the manor" but there are good areas and bad areas, even in districts like Manor, which have a "reputation". It all depends what you are used to, where you are now, and what you want.

If you want convenience for town, (parklands isn't that convenient, or close) shops and transport, then I'm inclined to agree with phylis, about looking at the terraced houses in the sharrow/ nether edge/ abbeydale road corridor. plus if you're gong to Uni. Nether edge /Sharrow is just a hop, skip and a jump from both the Hallam and the Shefield unis different sites. (reasonable walking distance, as car parking is a nightmare by the universities)

The drawback with apartments/ flats is that they can be like hamster cages, and there's the service charges to think about. Parklands is also not that convenient for transport and shops etc.

which uni will you be at? They are not that close together.

How big a place do you want. You can just about get a 1 bed flat in a nice area for 450. The west side is the best side!
