View Full Version : Wimbledon 2007 - Starts Monday 25th June
SpiderPete 24-06-2007, 09:43 I know a thread has started about Wimbledon but thats more of a moan and complain that Tennis is on, this one isnt, so post your negative comments in the other one, and its got the usual poll from me.
Well it starts on Monday, lets hope the rain stays away, I know this sounds crazy and silly but I have booked the whole 2 weeks off work to watch it, (yes I am a harcore fan), next year I am going down to watch it at Wimbledon.
So who is going to win it?
Will Federer reign yet again for his 5th win in a row and match the magnificent Borg reign ?
Can Roddick finally do it ?
Will Andy Murray play ?
Will the rain win ?
Who is your fav to win ?
http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/index.html
I have just put up the Top 16 to choose from, its unlikely anyone else will win it. (give me a couple of mins for the poll).
70s_Child 24-06-2007, 10:11 Federer for me, the grass court specialist

Poor Tim. Saw an interview with him in the paper 'everyone thinks I am a boring old git' or something was the headline.

You silly queen... :hihi: ;)
I'm going to be 'darn sarf' next weekend, and thinking of going to wimbledon in the saturday - looking at the website it looks like we'll have a fair few hours of queuing on our hands before we get any tickets tho! has anyone been before? Is it worth going?
SpiderPete 25-06-2007, 12:37 Well there looks like no play today, bloody rain :(
SpiderPete 25-06-2007, 15:19 Well at least the tennis is on,
Federer in cruise control 6-3 6-2 6-4
A british girl giving Martina Hingis a run for her money, yes I did say british girl, lol
Tim Henman due on next.
SpiderPete 26-06-2007, 14:38 Yay, Tim finally won.
What a match and what a comeback by Tim.
He was down and out in the 5th set, 2-4 down and 15-40 down in 5th set, he equalled it to 5-5 and bad light stopped play, came out today and finall won 13-11, after a total of over 4hrs.
Tim of old, he was just amazing, and against a former world No1 who didnt play that bad at all.
happyhippy 26-06-2007, 19:34 I honestly can't see past Federer, though Nadal is obviously a threat to all from the other side of the draw.
I suppose for outsiders, there's Gonzales, and even Bjorkman (triple winner at doubles at Wimbledon), but Bertych could be interesting, if he can handle playing on grass.
ReginaldD 26-06-2007, 23:14 Mi old mucker Roge to win again, he's proved he is motivated to come back year after year and win the title. So Roge it is I'd put my house on it............ If I had one.
SpiderPete 28-06-2007, 14:36 Is anyone watching the Tennis ?
Tim Henman looked dead and burried, lost the first 2 sets on tie-breaks and was 0-2 down in the third after loosing his serve, he never broke Lopez upto that point.
Then all of a sudden he breaks Lopez twice in the 3rd set, and wins it, and he has broken him twice already in the 4th and looks set to win it and take us into a 5th set.
Amazing.
happyhippy 28-06-2007, 18:50 He looked absolutely shattered during the fifth set. Tremendous fight back though.
SpiderPete 28-06-2007, 19:19 He looked absolutely shattered during the fifth set. Tremendous fight back though.
Yes he seemed to run out of steam, but he made it a good match.
Paolo Coopio 01-07-2007, 13:41 Well don't you just know its Wimbledon with the weather?
New quiz added this week - Maria Sharapova (http://quizninja.com/quiz.php?quiz_id=308)
astronaut77 04-07-2007, 15:11 Currently watching Sharapova v Williams - it's a good match but i'm SO put off by the constant grunting and screaming, why do they have to do that? It makes womens tennis so irritating to watch...
SpiderPete 04-07-2007, 15:14 Yes the grunting is off-putting, Venus is going well.
Looks like Henin victory now.
astronaut77 04-07-2007, 15:50 I'm hoping Serena will win, never been a big fan of Henin to be honest. Loving the history between the 2, looks like we're in for a fight!
downloads 06-07-2007, 23:44 I would bet on Roger Federer!
happyhippy 07-07-2007, 00:01 As I thought, it looks like Federer, but my others did reasonably well.
Venus is gathering a head of steam in the Women's though ....
SpiderPete 07-07-2007, 19:19 Come On Murray
No I am not going daft, I am talking about Jamie Murray who with Jankovic are in the FINAL, yes final of the mixed doubles.

A wonderful semi-final to watch. Jelena - tennis with a smile!

SpiderPete 08-07-2007, 15:47 Well this is a amazing mens final, both playing very well and hitting the ball so hard, although Federer is 2-1 up in sets, Nadal is giving him a tough time.
Phew, I am knackered watching it.
happyhippy 08-07-2007, 15:50 It really is very absorbing, especially when I think back to some of the yawnfests of the late 90's.
SpiderPete 08-07-2007, 17:38 All hail the great Federer.
5 Wimbledon wins in a row, amazing, although he was pushed all the way by Nadal.
Great final.
Now its time for Jamie Murray now. :)

They did it. Celebrate by looking at Jelena's pics on her website.

SpiderPete 08-07-2007, 19:33 Yes Jamie Murray won, yipee , he and his partner played very well, and they always seem to be smiling.
:)
Kingmaker2 08-07-2007, 23:57 I haven't seen a competitive and high quality final like that in ages!
We all knew Federer was brilliant but Nadal was a revelation!
Nobody thought anyone could come close to matching Federer's brilliance or dominace on grass, but Nadal just showed us that he will be a Wimbledon champion pretty soon.
It's hard to believe that Nadal is still only 21 and has won the French Open 3 years in a row equalling Borg's record.
Federer played a great game today but Nadal very nearly had him in the final set with those 4 break points.
Nadal sent out a clear message today, the King of clay is now the Prince of grass and is the true heir to Federer's throne at Wimbledon, not those pretenders like Roddick (sorry Jimmy!)
Both players were absolutely brilliant and Federer just edged it in the 5th set.
For me the best final I ve ever seen (the 1980 Borg V Mcenroe was a bit before my time)
johnbradley 09-07-2007, 07:42 classic final...5 sets of excellence...i thought Nadders was going to topple Roger in the 5th, he was looking supreme...but then Feds just shifted gears...unbelievable.
From seeing all the re-runs and that, it kinda reminded me of Mac and Connors, anyone else think so? The 'grind it out' of Nadal, with the 'artistry' of Federer.
And the white suit? I bet he's got 'nobody doeeess it better...!' going round his head as he walks on and off!
Legend.
