Are there any other AOL users having problems with their software locking up?.

My software is locking up approx every hour and i have to use Task Manager to shut it down.

I have been on to Live help but all those T*$$**$ do is send me emails with suggestions that don't work.

Someone on another forum is having the same problem and he is in America so i need to find out if there are any other users around with this problem.

is it just me, or does anyone else find AOL a pain in the a$$?

I've been with them for 5 years now and I've constantly been having connectivity problems, but I recently changed my address, which meant when I changed homes, my contract with them was renewed for 12months.
This has become a big problem for me, as their "technical support" team say that (quote) "the problem is that you are too far away from your MAIN socket, and AOL is so advanced that you cannot expect it to work from a different location". So I said that the problem is...apart from the fact that I decorated the room upstairs into an office, with a hole drilled through the wall to access the upstairs BT socket..... i would have to either, 1/ Get BT to move my main socket
2/ have my PC at the dinner table
so I said, "wouldn't it just be as easy to cancel my subscription with you, and go to another server?"
So the Indian bloke said in a funny way, "That is your choice. We can only give you advice, so if you want to leave, you may do so".
Back to the problem... I can't leave, because my subscription re-newed for an extra 12months, even though I've been with them for 5 years. (oh, and another issue is the way big companies use Indians for cheap labour. But that's another issue) Sorry, but i needed to get that off my chest.

They are all a bunch of T*$$**$ from that company.
I keep getting told to go away and try this, try that... and nothing works.

My problem is the connectivity. I tried to repair that with the appropriate function on Add/Remove, but no joy. Then I tried to uninstall then re-install my modem. Again, no joy.

I wouldn't mind "calling them back if that doesn't work", if only I could speak with the same person, but you're not even likely to get the same bl00dy Country, so you end up explaining it over and over again.

If you can, take my advice and......... LEAVE NOW!!

AOhell as they are known, are the absolute WORST ISP ever! Their tech "support" team are retarded, their own software doesn't work, and their connection regularly dies and when it connects, if ever.. It only connects about half your modem's speed, apart from once I was running it on a 33,6k modem years ago and got the full 33.6kbps speed connection :?

If anyone is having problems with AOHELL i may be able to help. I've had so many problems with it that i think i know more than they do about it :o

Instead of ringing them or getting on to 'Live Help' (more like "I have an email that's designed to help with that" brigade!), just follow the steps below. It's only what they're going to tell you to do anyway!

1. Turn off the AOL software and restart (Dohh)
2. Reboot your computer (Dohh)
3. Delete all your cookies and Temporary internet files
4. Rebuild the AOL Adapter in the utilities section
5. Perform a 'Quick Restore' in the utilities section (This is the point you loose any settings you had changed)
6. Re-install AOL
7. Actual quote from Numpty tech support
In that case Mr *, i really don't know what to suggest. I think you may need to re-install your operating system?

OK. I lied!. I did actually get connected to a very nice Scottish chap once who really knew what he was talking about. I bet he's signing on now after being sacked for gross misconduct!

i had problems with aol, at the time i had a btvoyager modem and was on broadband, i too had problems with locking up. what i found to work was getting rid of the bt voyager modem and bought a netgear modem, i now connect a lot faster and dont crash,
another thing to do if you are running win xp. is to download spxp2.
type the above in search bar and download it. as for probs with deleting cookies remember to delete temp internet files in aol internet bar and internet exploer temp internet files. i had probs running games on pogo and that cleared my prob

The sh****est browser ever, worst than IE !
The prob with AOL browser is them stupid colours, them extra icons, bars and whatever... If only you could 'ave a plain browser window with nowt else than 'stop' 'refresh' and the address box, them perhaps AOIL could be bareable.
Plus the price was outrageous, even for the 90s.
It took 2 hours on the phone to cancel from their services, we went to LibertySurf then (now Tiscali). And when I moved out went on Telewest, and compared to Tiscali (ADSL), Telewest (Cable) is da bomb !

How about this for AOHELL's latest ****up!

I had a popup about 3 weeks ago asking me to update my Switch details. The popup looked like i was in safe mode it was so blocky, plus i don't even have a Switch card!

"Phising" i thought to myself and promptly closed the window using Ctrl+W
Received a phone call from kblade today saying the internet is not working 'again'. "Fine" i'll reset the router when i get home, see if it's that. Got home and router seems fine :?

I phone AOL and i just about understood someone telling me my line and account is fine and it's a problem with the router!

I phone BT at 50p a min. Run all the diagnostic tests they have and sail through them with flying colours!

Back to AOHELL, determined to get some help off them even though they don't support my router.
Connect to their ADSL helpline, explain what's happening and the guy says "Well your broadband connection has been suspended!"

Off to Customer Services!

Customer Services say i haven't updated the non existent Switch card? I explain that i have never owned one and surprise surprise......They made a mistake and reconnected me straight away!

Do you think i can claim back the £5 or so it's cost me to phone BT? I would have asked the operator i was talking too but once again i could hardly understand a word being said to me :(

IMO you should write to BT, detailing how long you were on the phone etc, and claim back the cost of the call, seeing as the result of the call was unsatisfactory.

We did that once when we were on BT dial up a few years back and were constantly on the phone to numpty techies cos of connection problems, they just gave us a rebate off our BT phone bill, took off the price of all those damn 50p a minute half hour plus length calls!

I would do that but it wasn't the fault of BT. My connection was suspended due to an error that someone made on AOHELL's end.

I doubt i'll get anywhere with AOL either :(

My AOL keeps freezing up, more pop ups than ever from Microsoft internet or something like that, had to unplug it three times this week, that seems to do it until next time.

Sounds like you have a lot of spyware poppins ;)

Follow the guide Here (http://xthost.info/vidster9/HTML/removing_spyware.htm) to remove the spyware and install Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) and Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html). You should be fine then :)

Also.....If your using Windows XP, update to Service Pack 2 and you'll find you have a popup blocker built in to your internet options.
