Human's Dare to return to glory days
The Human League have announced dates for their Dare! tour
OMD have just done it with their landmark Architecture & Morality album and now it is the turn of their arch '80s rivals The Human League to tour a career best record.
The Sheffield synth pop stars have announced their much-threatened Dare! Tour which will showcase the entire 1981 album that truly put Phil Oakey and Susan Sulley (now Susan Ann Gayle) and Joanne Catherall on the international stage after the original line-up enjoyed moderate success with Reproduction and Travelogue.
The band's third album, it featured the huge hits Don't You Want Me, Open Your Heart and Love Action/Hard Times and contrasted them with the darker flavours of previous League endeavours via The Things That Dreams Are Made Of, The Sound Of The Crowd, Do Or Die and Seconds.
Widespread success prompted the release of the remix album Love & Dancing, under the group name League Unlimited Orchestra.
The tour coincides with the 30th anniversary of the formation of the group – which derived its name from the game Starforce: Alpha Centauri – with Martyn Ware and Ian Craig-Marsh, who went on to form Heaven 17 with Glenn Gregory before HL became a New Romantic pop force.
The current League set-up returns to Sheffield City Hall on Friday December 7. Tickets, priced £25, went on sale today via 0871 2200 260, www.gigsandtours.com or in person at the venue box office.
