You could have just told us you had her at home, bonny ;)

My boys were all born at the new Jessop Wing, in 2001, 2002 and 2004.

The Jessop Wing had only been open a fortnight when the first child arrived.

Sorry Abdul, at least I didn't say on the toilet!

:o

It's ok though it wasn't the toilet I had just got out of the bath, and there she was in the sac complete with waters intact. Sorry again, was that too much information?

:o

Well, I can guess it was a natural childbirth then, with no pain relief :D

Had both mine at the old jessops.

Daughter in '89 Got to hospital at 5:45am and had her at 6:52am ....... no pain relief!!

Son in '97 ... waters broke at 2:45am and had him at 5:57am no pain relief again!!

Like shelling peas!!!

Second stage labour with my son was only 6 minutes!! Midwife said if I ever had anymore I would probably end up with a home birth as it was so quick!!

Wierd as well cos I had the same room on the same ward each time too.

My eldest son in Nether Edge in 1966 where my husband was banished by the staff until after the birth.
My second son at home which was great in 1969 . My husband was allowed to stay with me and what a difference that made.

New Jessops 2003

some of you lucky ladies with quick labours. I was 24 hours (with every kind of pain relief going :) ) followed by an emergency C-Section.

Those of you who have had your babies at the neew Jessop Wing, what did you think of the place and the care you received? :)

I have nothing but praise for the OLD jessop hospital.

My aunt had two premature births, one in the 1970's and one in the 1980's. both babies were born at about 26/28 weeks

My cousins were both in the SCBU. the first was 4lbs 12 oz birthweight (she was about 28 weeks and was a decent weight really for a prem birth. she still needed nearly two months in the SCBU, however) she is now a strapping 30-odd yr old.

My other cousin, who was born in the mid 1980's, was even smaller. He was a 26 week baby, and weighed just 2lbs 2oz, (one kilograme or the same as a bag of sugar!)

He is now a strapping lad, in his late teens.

old jessops worked wonders and (coff) **ed miracles to keep them alive, they did a fanatastic job.

the family thank whatever lucky stars there are, that the births happened the way round that they did. I feel that, had the younger, and smaller baby, been born in the early 70's, he may not have survived.

I have had no experience, personally of the new jessops, but my middle two grandchildren were both born in there, after complications (she had a condition called placenta praevia). I, to be honest, did not feel that the treatment my Daughter in law received was as good as the treatment given at the old jessops. (the youngest baby was delivered at home eight weeks ago, the home birth the d-i-l had wanted each time, at last!)

Re:- the middle two,on those two occasions, I felt that she was messed around far too much, and that the babies ought to have been delivered sooner than they were, rather than let things drag out so long, letting her go over her time, when there were complications. (for example, with baby number 3, dil's waters broke on the Monday, but the baby was not born until the Wednesday. We got dil to the hospital when her waters went, but DIL was sent home, and told to come back if anything started to develop, but ,to call them back on wednesday night if she still had not delivered. To me, that late in the pregnancy, I'd have thought that they'd have got the baby delivered rather than risk infection and/or a "dry" birth.) she delivered the baby on the Wednesday night.

But, I must qualify this grumble, by saying that
"that's just *my* opinion, I am sure others have had absolutely marvellous experiences. Your mileage may vary, as the saying goes... :D"

That one was at the end, but my first was 29.5 hours in total.

Both natural births.

I didn't have my children there but was a birth partner to a friend a few weeks ago who had her baby there.

The midwives were very good. Things seem to have changed a lot in the past 5 years though. Midwives seem to taking a more natural approach now to labour and do not intervene much now which is good. they seem to leave the mother to decide how she is doing and go with the flow rather than keep examining her and telling her what to do.

i was born in 87 at NGH
my bro bro was born in 89 at NGH
close family friend had a baby at the jessop wing in august and one of the nurses on duty was a little strange to me. very hands on and interfeering. she wudnt leave my friend alone. do this do that your not doing thar right you need to do this better. It was a long labour! 48 hours from first contraction to birth! I wasnt too imressed with the hospital either. i thought it was scruffy and dirty- i thort it wud be a lot nicer cos its not even that old!

Ladyovmanor, they said it was failure to progress even tho I was fully dilated, and they made me push for an hour (complete waste of time, by then I was exhausted) but it was more the fact he got stuck and had his back to my back so was in the wrong position.

He wasn't small though 8lb 13oz.
