We went to Takapuna last night. Hadn't been for few months and it was horrible.
first when we went in, lots of attitude. then, found out after we got in that there was stabbing+fight the week before starting on the dancefloor and finishing outside. asked the door staff that they were not going to let it happen tonight otherwise we would rather leave and they said they had it in control tonight. went upstairs to the loft and the place was real overcrowded. not long after, we couldn't see properly but there were some brawling going on the dancefloor. 'a ball of dust with arms and hands sticking out' to quote my boyfriend. damn it. we moved away but we noticed the bouncers took a very long time to come and sort it out. the 'manager' at the door was very rude when i approached him bout it. 5 mins later, police turn up just as we were leaving.
questions:
1. how can Takapuna run a night like this where one can't even feel safe to have a good night out with friends?
2. if there had been incident the previous week, how come there weren't even proper searching at the door?
3. how come the place was overcrowded? surely, common sense will say smaller numbers will be easier to handle to prevent incidents?
4. how come the place is still licensed to open?

To answer your question in a nutshell, the place makes money and they have tried different music ventures and it does not work.
Fights happen at many venues in the city centre, however I think this is simply another tale of the doorman not dealing with individuals on the door first before anything happens. Kind of like buying a pet rattlesnake and expecting not to bite you, if you let it crawl on you. Sheffield has very poor door staff and the authorities dont do much either in terms of making Sheffield safe for clubbing.

well takapuna was doing r&b hip hop nights and since the stabbing they havent been doing the same thing they were good before shame someone always has to come and ruin things. THis thursday is the launch of a new R&B night its at vibe, but definitely not the usual crowd , otherwise my boyfriend wouldnt let me go!!lol
should be really good vibes nice inside its just some of the people that let it down. if the night doesnt have a good turn out though i doubt theyll do it again! the event details are on facebook somewhere, if u search for it on there.
