I ordered my 6.5 mm Surina DPNs for the IK Ogee Skirt last week from Winghams, and they arrived yesterday. They really are a thing of beauty, but unfortunately they arrived with the tip of one broken off :( . I'm going to get them exchanged, of course, but it's so disappointing to see them sitting there with the end chipped off one of them. Just thought I'd share my sadness :cry: .

Not long ago I bought Pony wooden needles 3.5mm and I was really looking forward to using them. Clumsy me: I've put them on the settee with the wool and when I sat down to finally start knitting, I sat on one of them!

Reminds me of my holiday: we were in Devon and we drove to a village nearby, Bideford. I was knitting and when we got out of the car on a busy road, I lost a wooden needle without knowing. I noticed it missing when we were back in the holiday cottage! So, after searching anywhere we drove back to that village 6 miles away, and there it was: undamaged in the middle of that road! I thought that was a miracle! :D

Been there and done that Hecate, My first two sets of bamboo addi's arrived broken. Again, they were replaced but they just looked so sad in that state.

Just to add that Winghams were great about it. I emailed them and received a response and the freepost return address within about 2 minutes. I'll send them back tomorrow. The yarn for the skirt hasn't arrived yet, though I was looking forward to giving them a trial run.

Bami, that's incredible! To think that needle could have been run over a dozen times before you got to it too. Fantastic!

I've broken one bamboo DPN, fresh out of the packet, by dropping it on the floor then running over it with the desk chair as I moved to pick it up :roll: . The cats have been responsible for putting a few fang marks in others. As far as I remember, this is the first time a needle has arrived damaged though; not bad considering I buy most of my knitting stuff online.

Just an update: Three cheers for Winghams who must have despatched my replacement needles almost as soon as they answered my email. The new ones arrived safe and well today. They're lovely to look at, light, shiny, smooth and smell like finely-polished wood (which is of course what they are).

Customer service as it should be. Well done Winghams :thumbsup: .

For future reference BTW, fang marks and other chips to bamboo needles can be removed with very very fine emery paper if you need to do that. I've also retipped needles using lathe-mounted emery paper to grind a new tip on them when they've become damaged.
