i'm looking for ideas to make my wedding really christmassy! i'd like a venue for the reception (ceremony as well possibly!) somewhere cosy, near sheffield, and ideas for anything else! i'm considering asking a family friend to play santa claus and drop in the reception with little pressies for the kids, but any other suggestions gratefully recieved!

It depends on money, but things such as mulled wine drinks reception, put you could put favours in mini xmas stockings. Think somewhere like whitley hall hall would be perfect but it depends on money.

yum mulled wine! i did think of the brandy / hot choc reception thing but i guess mulled wine is even more xmassy!
I love whitley hall, its very close to me, but yeah, its expensive!
The favours idea is fab, thank you!

The beauchief is really nice and whirlowbrook hall is beautiful, i'm a florist by trade and have done allot of Christmas wedding's, include the christmas theme in your flowers - rich reds and gold (not yellow!) with lot's of holly, spruce and mistletoe christmas roses, hang some christmas swags then scatter mulled wine and cinnamon scented candles all around, it makes the venue feel really warm!!

A friend of mine had her wedding at christmas and had a carvery for the reception.

flowers wise i was thinking of red and cream roses, with lots of greenery (holly ect), would they look ok? I like the candle idea, although I think I'd have to have tea lights in glasses cos they'll be lots of kids there.
I LOVE carverys, but my OH is a pain in the neck and wont eat decent food grr, i'll just send him to mcdonalds lol

Red and Cream roses look really lovely together, ask your florist to spray some bear grass gold and weave it through as for the candles T lights look great but you could also have something like on the link below just (hope it works! first time i've tried to do it!:help:) click on xmas flowers, number 5509 would look lovely and could be made to match your flowers.

Get come of those mini cheeseburgers for your OH and sit him in the corner with the kids :hihi:

Two friends had Christmas weddings. They were beautiful.

At one, there were mini skeleton trees (a metal structure, in three shape with twigs); they may still have them...they had lovely little fairly lights on. As the daylight faded, it created a fantastic atmosphere.

They had a lovely tree with lights as part of the display.

Santa delivered the favours.

The decorations were snowflake themed. Everything in winter white.

You could use wreaths, or table decorations with mistletoe (not sure if it still endangered) and holly.

You are going to have so much fun planning it. Good luck. Oh and congratulations.

I had christmas crackers as wedding favours and they were brilliant - a gift for everyone and a great way to get everyone mixing with other people on their table straight away! The sound of all the crackers snapping was great too, very happy day :-)

In case you need any other ideas, I had bridesmaids in silver dresses (all silver, white and sparkly crystal theme) and we had our reception at the Rising Sun in Bamford which was really cosy and Christmassy - also saved heaps on decorations as they always have a big tree and flowers around the fireplace at that time of year anyway!

I'm getting married in December at the Cutlers Hall, reception at Winter Gardens. I plan to decorate both venues with ivy and candles if they will let me. My bridesmaids and flower girl have maribou shrugs to wear which look really wintery, I'd like to find a white one to go with my Suzanne Neville dress but can't find one anywhere.

I'm really into serving mulled wine and mince pies at the reception! What date is your wedding?

its the 5th of dec!
I'm hoping to use candles too and perhaps some xmas greenery, i still need to sort out what I'm doing though.
Try ebay for the shrugs, I just got one off there (new). I'm currently looking for a long cape.
Mulled wine is being considered but I also like the idea of hot chocolate - mixed with brandy for those who want alcohol!

I think that using xmas greenery (holly) will look fab, especially against cream and red roses

maybe you could still have the stockings, just for the kids and fill them with sweets! will also keep them quiet during the speeches (if your having them)

As we were married in Scotland in March, we made sure we were staying in the same building for the whole day! It took us ages to find a venue which could cater for the whole bunch of us all day though - moving from room to room. (Make sure they have a great back drop for your pics indoors as you can pretty much expect some form of wetness from the sky in December!)

This meant we didn't need to worry about being warm in our posh frocks, so I was able to have a cheaper organza cloak with celtic braid down it's edge, rather than a contrast lined satin one as first discussed

mulled wine is more Christmassy, but you could offer hot apple and cinnamon as an alternative for those who don't fancy the mulled wine. If you're having hot chocolate, I can recommend Baileys as your alcohol content :D

Now how can you organise the wedding cake such that you can set fire to it like a traditional Chrimmy pud? :hihi:

oh, don't forget you'll be competing with Christmas parties for venues - so get your place booked ASAP

Hi
I own Bluwater and host about a dozen weddings ayear plus numerous other events and parties. Each booking is designed individually and i would love to discuss with you what you require. Informality, imagination and flexibility are our main strengths. Creative buffet work for up to 100 guests up to 50 sat down depending on other requirements but cant offer the ceremony as we are not licensed for this . Christmas enquiries are later this year but started with avengence this week so i would advise you to check as many places as poss as soon as poss to give your selves a choice.

Hi Honeyb

I'm getting married on 20th december (not long to go now!!). Were having mulled wine and i got some fab christmas candle holders(the old fashioned style with little handles) with either an angel, reindeer or father christmas on the front. Were going to punch a hole in the place setting card and tie them with silver ribbon to the handle so that it looks like a gift tag!

I've got most things sorted now but does anyone know where i could get some in expensive fur shrugs/cardigans for two 5 year olds?

I've got crackers for favours and have bought some little 'favour cards' from asda in the sale (25p for 25!) which I'm going to write names on and tie with silver ribbon to the crackers so they double up as place cards!
As for the shrugs there is a person on ebay who makes them, I'll PM you the link

Hey I am another Christmas bride 27th Dec for me, I went up to Mackro this weekend to buy 200 crackers to act as our favours (really good price, less than £1 each)

We wanted to have some christmassy bits but since it tis after christmas it is more about a nodd to it as it is our wedding celebration not a christmass one so we have gone down the subtle path, brides maids in plum rather than red with ivory flowers and lots of sparkles, our invitations and stationary are all themed with sparkly snow flakes on them but I do intend to have mistletoe every where and our tables will be named after the 12 days of Christmas

feel free, it is just our sneaky way of getting table numbers with out actaully useing numbers, the plan is just to print off the pictures and put them on the stands with the table numbers just hopeing we only end up with 12 tables now :)
