I have reformatted my daughters HD, reinstalled windows XP, drivers and her broadband connection.
I have tried to set up the router following the instructions on the leaflet and followed the AOL video that was posted here recently.
I enter the address: 192.168.0.1 either using IE or firefox, press enter and wait.
Instead of the setup screen all I get is "cannot connect to server"
There is a "reset to factory default" at the back of the router which I had activated but to no avail.
Could someone tell where I have gone wrong and suggest a solution before She pays to have it fixed.
Thanks.

Sorry Donky7 I don't understand the question.
The laptop to router will be wireless but I'm using the cables that came with the router to set it up.

Whats the make and model of the router?

Some use 198.168.1.1

I even saw a Zoom wireless router that used 10.0.0.2

I had one that defaulted to 192.168.2.1.

So try all the above addresses in a browser.

If still nothing, then maybe it can't see the router rather than the router being faulty.

In which case, check the install of the network device on the PC (ie. the network card) and, if cabled, try swapping out the cable.
