Shame it was only an OBE, The man is a legend and pound for pound possibly Sheffields best export.

Surely a Knighthood should follow shortly.

My mum in law used to serve him back in the days in her cafe, he would ring up and ask her to save him a fish late at night, she would always keep the cafe open for him and he treated her like a queen.

Mums very poorly right now, she talks about him often and fondly, 85 years young she is and she will be over the moon to hear this, I shall tell her when I go to see her tomorrow in the hellemshire !!

Bless him

He lived at 38 Tasker Road, Crookes, opposite me, the house has now been sold since the death of his dad a few years ago.
I see Joe when he comes down under, he is the same bloke I knocked around with from being 3 years old.
He worked for the gas board after leaving the Tech college until he turned to singing professionally, OBE means one boiled egg, thats what he will get when he goes to Buck house for tea, if he gets a knighthood, he will be able to stay overnight.
Joe has a website [official website] where you can track where he is going to be at any particular time etc.

I saw him in the Crosspool Tavern 1970 ish when he was staying at Crookes.
Dont think he stayed long. I heard he hired a cottage in Dartmoor/Cornwall ??
for a while chilling out after touring in America.

Joe was my dads first trainee on the gas board.

I worked in the Gas Board offices when Joe was a gas fitter, in the early '60s.
Joe's supervisor at that time was Eddy Langley.

Cynthia, Canada.

Joe deserves the OBE without a doubt.

My Nan knew the family well. His Dad had an allotment close to hers next to Crookes Cemetary

They've given Cocker an OBE? I missed that one!

There can't be many who realise just how hilarious that actually is!

Folks... This means that there's hope for all of us to be honoured! :hihi:

explain please,I wouldn't dream of being so indiscreet as to do so... Suffice it to say that I knew Cocker well in the early days... and though he was a great guy... Somebody less likely to ever meet with the approval of the establishment, you would find hard to imagine! :)
