on average, how many hours do you spend watching television shows. i don't mean watching dvds, or even films that appear on televison, just shows that are specifically made for telly.

i spend probably less than 2 hours per week - what about everyone else? (apologies if this has been done before (i did do a quick search but i didn't see anything)

My television hasn't been switched on for 2 weeks, since my mate came around and wanted to see the football results.

Is the vote for hours per week, month or day????

I only used to have the music channels on - but there doesn't seem to be any free-to-air here.

Now it's a little bit of news and that's it...

<2 hours

0 - 2 hours

I only used to watch The Simpsons. And now they're all repeats (thank you Sky One  ) the only thing I'll watch is the odd documentary, 24 hour news-channel headlines or a late-night thriller. I'll sooner do a little web browsing or PS2 playing in my quiet time than watch TV.

I have to say, the ongoing story of Wendy vs Tesco Home Shopping (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?postid=220345#post220345) is more than enough drama for me. That's my late night entertainment :D

I use the kids as a great excuse to go to the toy store and buy some more Lego sets and PlayStation 2 games.

More fun than TV :D

in the last few months all i've watched was 'the power of nightmares', a 3 part series on bbc2, and michael palin's 'himalaya'. i can easily go weeks without switiching the tv on (unless it's to watch a dvd).

I only really watch the football (esp now Match of the Day is back on BBC) and Top Gear, so mine's about 5 hours per week even including films. I did watch "Spy in the Woods" this week about bears though and it was great. :)

I used to be addicted to Eastenders, but then it went pants (I wish there was a smilie for "pants"...).

I spend most of my time outside work cooking nice stuff, doing housework and walking the dog (I'm not moaning here, I don't mind doing it mostly). And I go running instead of going to the gym, so there's none for me there either.

I hardly watch any TV and my vote is 0-2 hours per week. That's not pants, it's fact.

Also if you think that kids watch too much TV, why encourage it? Mine watch a video very occasionally, and the rest of the time we are out or they play with toys.

dont have kids to encourage it, but i hope when i do have them, ill only work part-time whcih means we can watch silly cartoons and have lots of times to properly play too!! but generally kids do seem to watch tv lots - while eating, doing home work, or while mums doing house work - its a simple solution when theyre bored and its too cold or something to go out. perhaps.

For the 1st time in my life I haven't got a TV (just bought my own house) and all I can say is I don't miss it at all.. probably won't bother getting one..

Theres so much crap on TV these days and the news is just depressing so my life seems alot better without it!

I would also say 1 -2 hours a week, tops. Not pants, just facts of life. ATM I'm watching the 4400 on Sunday night which is 1 hour long??? That's it.
I watched a DVD last week if that helps, but I forgot the 4400 was on so it's still less than 2 hours in front of tv.
I imagine I'll watch more over Xmas, being off work etc but since I'm working most daylight hours and half the night, plus internet shopping for xmas and real life stuff, I'm guessing it won't be till v close to xmas.

when we get sky plus or a similar device i'll probably actually watch more.

i like to watch an entire series. So there's battlestar galactica (sky one), latest Star Gate (Sky One), latest Simpsons (sky one), latest ER (when it comes out, E4).
So that would be 4 hours a week. Plus i'll watch a repeated simpsons once or twice a week in the hotel whilst also reading a book. So that's 5 hours.

Theres sweet f.a. on tv worth watching. So im at the 0-2hrs level. OTOH - that doesnt mean the TV isn't switched on for hours at a time!

Too much....:)

Actually, in terms of actively engaging with a program I'm probably in the 10 to 15 hours a week category, although the TV is on quite a lot.

The only time my TV is on in my room is when I'm watching DVD's... so the only time I'm technically watching TV is meal time when my folks are watching soaps and stuff... so I guess I'm watching it sort of, although as soon as I finish my tea... straight back to my room to do Uni work and watch more DVD's, or play my guitar...

TV sucks, its all about movies! all the soaps have gone crap the last year or two...

I don't watch as much TV as I used to.

Before I discovered Sheffield Forum

I only watch Simpsons, the occasional episode or coronation street and Max and Paddy if I get a chance.

well i must admit that i expectd most people to be watching a lot more telly - perhaps the real telly addicts just can't get away from the gogglebox!
