When I was a student I lived in Moss Side / Whalley Range in Manchester in Darnley Street. That poem fitted Darnley Street excellently!

John Cooper Clarke is a brilliant poet, if only for "Beasley Street" alone. "A Love Story In Reverse" is another favourite of mine. He's appeared at the Boardwalk a couple of times in the last couple of years.

He was originally 'Marx' Miwurds as postered in and around West St. Nice bloke, used to drink in the Hanover, Broomhall.

Buggered of to London and did a bit of TV and stuff.

As said by others here (John cooper Clarkes) Beasley Street was brilliant, slowly building and increasing in energy, so many lines in the lyrics still come to mind.

Mark Miwurdz is now plain Mark Hurst i think, and doing stuff on radio 4.
Saw him several times in the early eighties, and he was always good.

Seen JCC a few times as well over the years, and he's always been entertaining. and funny.
He's playing the Boardwalk 25th Oct for anyone interested.

He is from Manchester. In my student days in the 70's I lived for a year in Sedgley Park, north Manchester, the same area he did at the time, and used to see him around quite a lot - in the street, in the laundrette, and in the local pub (the George I think it was).

The best of his stuff that I've heard is T**T - brilliant!

My brother was a fan of him in the 70's he had one of his LP's (what the heck are they?) One of my favourite bits of a poem I can remember was one which I think was aimed at an ex which went:

I think Henry Normal is from Sheffield/Chesterfield. He's of a similar ilk.
He later co wrote hit shows including the royal family & Mrs Merton show with Caroline Aherne.
