Here's an interesting idea for a something different to play around with: Sidewinder Socks (http://nonaknits.typepad.com/nonaknits/2007/06/sidewinders_the.html). Grumperina (http://www.grumperina.com/knitblog/) has some more photos of the finished article.
I saw these socks first with you AmelieB, they are proving to be popular aren't they?!
Yep, I've just cast on and am going to be knitting these today
Hmmm. I'm not really feeling quite so much love any more. The pattern is written quite bizarrely in places and isn't too clear in some bits. Still, I shall continue with these for a while longer before getting stroppy with them.

There was a sideways pair on Magknits a while ago. I looked at them for a while and then went back to what I knew. The pattern is here (http://www.magknits.com/July06/bakerloo.htm)if you want to have a look.
I think I prefer Nona's pair, and I've got over my little paddy with them now

I always worry that sideways socks arent going to have enough stretch in them especially in my high instep fat ankle area so Im really interested to find out how these go:)
They're going good so far.
They're going good so far.
What yarn and needle size did you go for?
2.75 mm and Hundertwasser. If I ever manage to get the chiddler things to go to sleep at a reasonable hour then I'll update the blog with progress pictures.
I put up the not very impressive progress photo on the blog :)
I finished the sideways sock, and loved knitting it. Photos and comments and other such gubbins is on the blog
I'm sorry- my head just doesn't think that sideways socks are right. I'm sure that technically they're a feat (geddit?) but I just can't picture how you'd do them- I'm sure that's just because knitting has moved on in the last few years since I stopped doing it (and crocheting doesn't stretch well enough for decent socks).
I'm really enjoying this pattern. Though it's essentially stocking stitch, the novel technique and wondering what's coming up next in the pattern is enough to keep me interested.
I'm a little concerned about the stretch factor, though as I managed to get the specified gauge I'm hoping it's not going to be a problem (don't think I have an arch issue :suspect:). Actually, I'm not too concerned if they don't fit; just the experiment of playing with a new technique is worth it.
