I know most of the Pits have closed now in and around sheffield but does anyone know of a website or a book that will give me a listing and location of all the old pits dating back to approx 1900 in and around Sheffield.
Thankyou:)

These two books could help....
"South Yorkshire collieries on old picture postcards", Norman Ellis, 1995
"South Yorkshire collieries", John Goodchild, 2001
..on the shelves in the Central Lending Library.
Have you checked the Local Studies Library ? - they could probably lay their hands on the information, plus you could see the large scale Ordnance Survey maps for the dates you're interested in.
It's likely that most mineral rights were owned by the local bigwigs...Duke of Norfolk etc. and mining activities were leased out to entrepeneurs. Details would be in the estate records, - you might even drop lucky and find the research already done.
