View Full Version : A bit of a long shot: do you have any of this wool?

I know this maybe a long shot, but here goes.
I purchased a 100gm ball of cerise pink wool from Hobbycraft last month, I'm 1.5 inches short of finishing 1 sleeve but have run out, they are no longer selling that colour, I don't fancy unravelling back, fronts with ribs & buttons attached, 1 sleeve & almost the full length of the other sleeve.
Has anyone by any chance got a bit of this wool leftover they could possibly sell me please

The wool is candy pink & made by Patons FAB! its DK....shade 2316

Do you have the name of the yarn and the shade and lot numbers (you'll need the latter so that you can get a dye lot match)?

If no one on here has any, have you tried getting Hobbycraft to try their other branches for you in case one of them has some still in stock? Alternatively, it's possible that another shop could sell the same brand and you might be able to track it down on the internet.

Didn't think of that one, I always throw the bands away when I start knitting them, it was the palette collection & there was only 1 shade of that colour, I never thought about the dye lot match, oh well it looks like I'd better start unpicking, thanks anyway

Don't start unpicking yet - someone might have some. Sometimes the dye lots aren't that different, so you might be able to get away with it if you do track some down, even if the lot numbers don't match.

It's worth waiting a while and seeing if anything turns up before starting to unpick.

I might as well hang on
I've popped into hobbycraft 5 times a week for the last 3 weeks ( I work near there ) I've not found one of the staff helpful yet, they've all said "everything we have is out, if it's not on the shelf we either don't have it or we have stopped doing that colour"

There are very few helpful staff there these days :( And, from experience, they are probably lying to you about everything 'being out'. They have loads of unused stock in their warehouse :|

Go in and ask them to ask other stores. Otherwise, they can put in an order for you. It could take a while, but they *can* do that. It's a shame you don't have the dye numbers.

What company made the yarn originally? Do you remember that? If so, you could google it and find other stockists of the yarn who are more helpful.

I'm just searching the drawers under my bed to see if I've kept receipt, I wish I hadn't started now :) I've just come across a couple of unfinished cross stitch pictures, do you think anyone on here would want to finish them?

You could try posting in the Crafts Group (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=93) about the cross stitch. I know there are quite a few cross stitchers in there.

If it makes you feel better I always throw the ball bands away as well. I've tried really hard to break myself of it because I have a blog now and I find myself writing "knitted in some colour of Trekking". Even when I set out to keep the ball bands safe I still end up using them as bookmarks.

I don't suppose there's any chance of putting a 2" stripe of a contrast colour in both sleeves. You could do it four inch or so up from the cuffs, snip a thread, unpick it to the edge, unravel 2" downwards, reknit 2" in navy or whatever, graft the edges back together and then use the unravelled yarn to finish the sleeve cap. It is a lot of work but less work than you've already put into it.

I think I may have just found the wool on ebay, I only paid 99p for 100gm there asking for 50p per 25gm plus £1.10 for postage, the shade looks a bit lighter though so I think I will hang on a bit longer, I will add a picture on tomorrow
Thankyou I will bear your idea in mind anyway

I cannot believe it..I have found the ball band..it's shade 02316 lot 2808
I've found the exact shade now on ebay, from a Sheffield seller

Thankyou to all for your help once again, will pop photo on when finished

Excellent news! How lucky is that to find the ball band and then find an exact match? :D

Look forward to seeing the finished product!

I know I couldn't believe it. I pulled the drawer out fully & it was there, I will be keeping hold of the bands in future, until the garments complete.
The seller is from Sheffield so thats probably the person who keeps buying up all the wool in hobbycraft :hihi: it's cost me £3.03 from her.
But I've probably spent more than that on petrol to get there everyday
