View Full Version : Announcements - Births
PIF_Tails 21-09-2006, 12:57 You might remember me from last month, asking for labour advice whilst being heavily pregnant.
Well, my birth experience ended up being my worse case scenario in practically every way, as I ended up in Jessops for a week after losing half my body weight in blood after the most intervention led labour possible :(
But on the bright side I am now off the painkillers and we have been blessed with a beautiful daughter, who is now one month old. :)
Four days old (http://www.clanczr.org/images/emily.jpg)
Three weeks old (http://www.babieseverywhere.com/images/Leeds2.jpg)

babychickens 21-09-2006, 13:40 crikey cobber, i thought mine had lots of hair when she was born! you're going to be spending hours plaiting that!
I'm so glad to hear that the baby turned out so perfect in the end, even if the birth was so dreadful.
I'm jealous in the extreme- snuggle her off me please.
She is beautiful. Look after yourselves. xx
weenireeni 21-09-2006, 14:23 beautiful baby and i love the outfits! :)

cosywolf 21-09-2006, 15:49 Absolutely gorgeous! Many many congratulations!!!!!
many congratulations to you, the baby is beautiful, well done.
She's beautiful and what a co-incidence. My daughter is 4 weeks old today too. :)
Fantastic, congrats! She's lovely.
I'd also like to know her name if you can share please?
*I must not get broody again,... I must not get broody again....I must...heheh!*
Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby daughter.
Can I just ask how it is possible to lose half your body weight in blood and survive
Congratulations she looks lovely, and rather large for a new born. Was she a big baby??
Awwwww How totally beautiful she is! And what a lot of hair too! Bet you're chuffed to little bits. :D
upinwath 21-09-2006, 23:40 Cute personified.
Congrats and wishing her health and happiness.
PIF_Tails 22-09-2006, 07:35 Congratulations to doodle on your new baby :)
My daughter is called Emily and yes she is a big baby. She was 8lbs 12oz at birth and at a month old she is now in the 95 percentile for her length and a lot bigger...9lbs 13ozs.
Thank you for all the lovely comments :)
Can I just ask how it is possible to lose half your body weight in blood and survive
Maybe I have that bit wrong ? I was told by the midwives at Jessops that I had lost 4 pints of blood during labour (isn't 8 pints a body full ?) which why I spend the first 24 hours in a HIU ward after giving birth and the reason I have no memory of that time. :(
I'm waiting for a referral to the Birth Afterthoughts programme and they will be going though my medical records with me and to talk me though what happened when and why :(
Your daughter's a right little stunner! Congratulations!
I'm sorry to hear you've been so unwell, definitly go for the afterthoughts service, it might help to stave off the old PND, which is obviously more likely after you've had a traumatic birth. Good Luck!
4 pints is probably more likely, either way you have had a tough time of it. I hope you have fully recovered now and able to enjoy your lovely baby.
Emily is a lovely name by the way.
PIF_Tails 22-09-2006, 07:52 Thanks Scoop :)
I think I'm doing alright and I feel happy, though very tired, which is to be expected being a new mother of a month old baby.
The only thing which upsets me is thinking about my labour, so I am trying my hardest to forget it, which I am finding hard at the moment as it keeps popping up in my mind.
The only reason I'm going to the Birth Afterthoughts thing, is that it upsets me more to see the first pictures of my daughter and me in hospital and I have all these iv's tubes and oxyen mask and I don't remember anything about it.
Hopefully once I fill in the missing hours, I can stop thinking about it and just concentrate on my daughter instead.
Thanks Scoop :)

That's a great idea, I know when my son was a baby there were several Mums in our mum and baby group who had had caesarians under general anaesthetic who found it very hard to come to terms with the fact that they had no memory of their babies being born, so the feelings you are experiencing are very common.
As for being tired, remember when anyone asks "can I do anything to help?" to give them your shopping list, or point them in the direction of your laundry that needs doing, or ask them to cook your tea...... you've got to be a bit cheeky cos really when people ask that question they really just want to cuddle the baby for a bit!
By the way- Can I do anything to help?!
Thanks PIF_Tails.
I'm sorry to hear that you had a tough time at birth and sounds like it was very traumatic for you. I think talking it through with someone and filling in the blanks of your memory may help you. I do think the whole birth and the shock of a new baby is quite hard anyway, and if you have had a bad time at labour/birth then it will make the whole experience harder for you.
What a beautiful baby! She's just topped up my broody levels haha!
A huge congratulations to you both, and best of luck.
Blimey, four pints. Glad I'm a donor! :) To think that a hundred years ago (maybe less!) neither of you might not have made it.... wonderful that you are both doing well! Congratulations
MrsCarter 20-11-2006, 19:51 Hi Everyone,
My Husband and I are very proud to announce the birth of our beautiful baby girl.
Holly Florence Emma Carter arrived on the 13th November after I was induced. She weighed in at a respectable 8lbs and was a whole 2 weeks late!!
I will post a picture when I can.
xxx

babychickens 20-11-2006, 20:34 OOOh, congratulations! I hope you're doing well, as well as the baby (mothers do tend to get a little forgotten). pics soon, please! you'll have to change your avatar to a more recent pic... are you going to come down to zebra's jellytots? there's several ladies who i'm sure would be pleased to take holly off your hands for a few minutes so you can have a few minutes of self time!
Congrats! Stay strong in these early tiring weeks!!!
Yay congratulations Mrs Carter, I was wondering if you were ever having that baby.
I hope you're feeling all chipper again - other than shattered obviously.
Looking forward to seeing you down at Jellytots and can't wait to admire Holly. (Not open this Friday - just in case you're fighting fit already, but we're open Wednesday as usual.
Take care
Zebra
mrsmarshall 20-11-2006, 21:54 Congratualtions to you and your family. Such a wonderful, precious time. Enjoy the good times ... and naughty times as they grow older!:)
cosywolf 21-11-2006, 13:55 Congratulations! Is this your farthest away set of good wishes? Texas wishes you all the best.
And remember we're all here through those sleepless nights and odd questions, hun, and more than happy to help.
Welcome, Holly!
NatalieSheff 21-11-2006, 14:14 congratulations xxxx
MrsCarter 21-11-2006, 22:56 Thankyou everyone for your congratulations. My Husband and I are deliriously happy that Holly is here and we're totally in love with her :-)
Cosywolf - I think that Texas is the farthest away set of good wishes we've received :-)
Zebra - We'll definately be coming down to Jellytots when I'm confident to get out and about by myself with Holly. So far I've only been out with my Husband in the car with her and as I don't drive I'll have to tackle public transport :-) Having Holly has kicked me up the butt though and I'm now going to learn to drive after Christmas :-)
Thanks everyone
A very happy Mummy

bladesgirl 19-03-2007, 19:16 Just to let you all know that my baby girl arrived on the 15th of March weighing 5 pound 7 ounces... in the end I had to be induced at 37 weeks as she was small and there was hardly any amniotic fluid around her.
But Jodi Ruanne is here, safe and sound and doing well. Piccy here (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g24/bladesgirl/jruanne.jpg):)
babychickens 19-03-2007, 20:15 ...and she's already showing a bit of leg. you're going to have to watch her.

jen13kd.....my labour was induced (hooked up to drips and monitors) so none of my birth plan went to plan unfortunantly.. but all that matters is that she is here safe and sound... so good luck and I am sure it will be the best experience ever for you, as it was for me holding her my arms after the labour, its so worth it  Thanx everyone again and I will pass on hugs and kisses from you all :D

You'll have to update your avatar now!!
OH YES :) thanx for that she was due on April fools day that would have been great :D
and Thankyou everyone else for your best wishes... and bobsyouruncle we both love you too  :P
babychickens 21-03-2007, 22:09 bobsyouruncle (or father, in this case) - sorry, but you do get to be mostly forgotten for a few days! just wallow in how fantastic your lady and your new kidlet are, and how much your lady loves you. babybaby's father and i have never been so loved-up as we were for about a week after she was born...make the most of it, then start demanding attention once the pride and generalised happiness has disappeared!:D
I shall be watching this section closely over the next few months as I have just found out I am going to be a nanan..I personally didn't think I was old enough but obviously I am.....:hihi:
cosywolf 31-03-2007, 20:24 Congratulations!!
You're very welcome...come in, have a sit down, look around. There's plenty to see.
TheRedWizard 06-04-2007, 18:30 Hi everyone,
Just came across this group, and will try and share some of the tips we've picked up in recent weeks!
I don't know anyone on SF personally, but have been posting for a few years now so thought for posterity I should belatedly announce our arrival - who was born in Jessops at the start of March and had his one month 'birthday' yesterday.
So, here's to you littleman (not his name!) and good luck to everyone else who is expecting.
Red
Congrats Red Wizard and welcome to the parenting group :)
cosywolf 06-04-2007, 21:55 Yep, many congrats, and welcome!

summer1955 18-05-2007, 14:30 my grand daughter was born today this dinnertime at 12.45. weighing 6lbs 6oz
they are calling her keivi-may she is my 1st grand daughter i already have a grandson.
i am so excited its a girl, as i had 4 boys then a grandson, so it will be nice to beable to buy some girls things for a change. i cant wait to see her.
was upset as with losing hubby last year, i picked up his photo told him his grand daughter was here but cried as he wont beable to hold her and talk to her.he would have been so happy to see her and i can imagine the look on his face when he held her, he would have had a tear in his eye and then said he had a cold or something in his eye,as not to let us think he was being soppy
I bet you're in a constant flux of emotions about your grand-daughter. A terrible shame your husband won't see her (or can he?) but what a blessing for you and your family.
Have you been to see her yet? I bet she's adorable, have fun!

you are right about the constant flux of emotions most of the day i just wanted to cry held back for most of it though and looked through all the photos i had of family when they were little and of my hubby. she was born 14 months to the date of my hubby dying and emotions were happy and sad at the same time.im still full this morning trying hard not to cry.
I hope it becomes easier for you Summer1955.
I'm sure it will be a happier note once you have chance to have a cuddle :)

I gave birth to baby Alfie at 11:24am today. He weighs 7lbs 1 ounce and is absolutely gorgeous.
I have to say that my experience of labour is a fantastic one.
After my waters went at 3:30am (which is what woke me up) I had irregular contractions every 10-15mins that felt like period pains for about 2 hours. Then from 7:15am they became regular - every 5 mins and a little bit more painful. But I still thought that it must be 'early' labour. The midwife arrived just after 9am and examined me to find that I was already 6 cm's dialated. for the next hour the contractions started to become more intense, but still bearable. By 11 am I was in quite a bit of pain (and making a lot of noise) and I could feel the urge to push. The midwife examined me and said I could push and within 3 pushes he was born
I used no pain relief at all (i can honestly say I didn't need it) I haven't got any tears and I've just eaten some big chunks of raw placenta......yummy!
here's a pic of our gorgeous boy
http://i17.tinypic.com/6ba0gic.jpg
*just to add as well, I would definately recommend a homebirth to anyone who has a complication-free pregnancy.
an hour after the birth the midwife left us to it. I had a nice shower and we all settled down for a cuddle and a sleep. the midwife has just been back again to check on us, and everything is ok - he's latching on for feeding and I'm not in any pain at all.*
sTaGeWaLkEr 20-06-2007, 16:43 Congratulations you! :)
I'm glad everything went well.

Yeah, Alfie is our first......
Either I was really lucky and didn;t have a particularly painful labour, or I'm just very tough :D
Either way I thought it wasn't as hard as people say it is. - Not saying its easy, but I think if you prepare yourself for the worst - you'll be happily suprised!
I didn't 'taste' the placenta - hubby prepared it -(washed it, cut off membranes etc) and cut it into swallowable pieces and I just swallowed them whole with a big glass of orange juice.
I ate some straight after the birth, some more last night, some more this morning and there's just enough left for tonight. I feel great - my uterus is contracting back quicker than normal (which aparently eating the placenta helps with) and so far there's no sign of the baby blues......
Marvelous news Jen! Congrats etc! :)
I'll have a pint for him in the Kelham Island Tavern tomorrow, but might give the sandwiches a miss... :gag: ;)
cosywolf 21-06-2007, 20:19 Many congratulations, Jen!
Oh wow, what a birth. Wish mine had been like that, sounds very relaxed. Congratulations, Alfie is lovely.
Not sure about the placenta bit, but sounds interesting and I would be interested to know if it helps prevent postnatal depression. Although, I'm not sure I could bring myself to eat it though, I hated liver when I did eat red meat.
rubydazzler 21-06-2007, 22:43 Congratulations to all the family, and welcome baby Alfie ...

I still remember the day / morning my partner gave birth to my beautiful little girl...I came home here about 03:00 after spending an hour and half with my girls, I came home, stood on my balcony lit a cig' and looked into the distance with a smile on my face from ear to ear, I finished my cig' burnt my fingers and didn't even notice...I believe I was still out there at about 05:00 looking at the same 'nothing'......It is definately the best feeling in the world, I'm so happy for you, congrats matey to you all
However, yes there is a BUT.......8 months on I would give anything to go back there now and stay on that planet for just a few more years, all the hard work is on it's way to you soon. Enjoy it while it lasts :hihi:

It is a sticky at the top of the page. If you look at the stickies that are already there, you will find it.
Ideally we would have it all on its own, but we are only allowed so many stickies, for the sake of clarity and tidiness, so we have had to be creative to get everything we wanted up there.
