Until fairly recently all of the Parks and Recreation Areas within the City had a notice board naming the benefactor(s) who mainly between 1920 to 1950 had purchased and donated individual park and woodlands to the city's residents. These notice-boards usually stated what area the gift covered.

Visitors and new comers to the city are frequently surprised by the amount of the freely accessible open areas that Sheffield possess. But because the notice boards have been removed, they are not aware of who enabled Sheffield to become ' The City with more green open space's than any other city except Greater London '.

Who authorised the removal of these notice boards? and Why?
