View Full Version : Unofficial SF knitting group meeting: Wednesday June 27th, 7pm.
The next meeting of the SF Knitting Group will be on Wednesday June 27th at 7 pm at The Wool Baa.
Many thanks once again to Jill for offering the Wool Baa as the host venue .
Please vote in the poll if you're going to be there, so we have an idea of numbers.
Wool4brains 13-06-2007, 19:29 Me, possibly with my new itty bitty spinning wheel. Anyone want a play on it?
I would like to join the knitting group, can you tell me where the wool baa is please and do we need to bring anything?

Just bring your knitting and a sense of humour - then head for Hunters Bar. Look up Jill's website on one of her threads. :)

Hello and welcome to the Sheffield Forum knitting group  .
The knitting group is essentially a virtual group, and part of Sheffield Forum. Some of us attend the monthly meeting at The Wool Baa, though as people from all over the country post messages in the group, not everyone attends the meetings.
There's no membership as such; just post a message when you feel like it. Tell us what you're knitting, what you like to knit - anything about knitting (or crochet, or spinning or anything fibre-related really :).)
If you just want to go to the meetings at the Wool Baa - that's fine too. Here's a link (http://www.thewoolbaa.co.uk/index.html) to the address, and here's a map (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&keepicon=true&lang=&pc=S118XA&advanced=&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=S11%208XA&addr3=&addr1=).
It's a 'No' from me as I will no longer be in Sheffield! :(

Will you be coming back?
Lucy-Lastic 14-06-2007, 19:24 I cant commit atm as I dont know whats going on with my Brother and where I will be:(
Will you be coming back?
I don't know at the moment...but i wouldn't be against the idea! :)
Glitter Star 18-06-2007, 20:10 I'll be there. I'm already looking forward to coming.
knitbird 18-06-2007, 20:36 Me too! I love seeing what everyone else is getting up to, and I need to get 2 more skeins of Giotto, to make another throw. (If I don't get it all at once I can pretend it costs less) :hihi:
Plain Talker 18-06-2007, 21:28 should be there, as usual! :D
Madam_Bo 19-06-2007, 09:33 I'm in! (Barring the usual misadventures to which I am prone.)
Thanks I am really looking forward to it. See you there
I am new to the Forum today, will it be ok with you if I make an appearance at the Wool Baa too?

We can do crowds! You might want to bring a dinghy :hihi:

It's been so long since I've seen much of Sheffield that I've lost all sense of geography about where places are in relation the rivers. Are you all alright up there in all this awful weather? Are you any where near Endcliffe Park? I've seen the photos showing the flooding there :( .

Haven't been in the shop today so am hoping the pump in the cellear has worked OK. Shops either side had flooded cellars last week so heaven knows how they are today. Water does tend to come to a halt outside the shop as it is at the bottom of a hill. It's bad enough on a "normal" rainy day. My main worry is that the water may have come up and though the door. I shall find out tomorrow. The shop is round the corner from Endcliffe Park and I haven't seen the photos of flooding there :(
Still, awful though it could be it is nothing compared to some of the terrible news coming through. How is it at your location?

I echo your final sentiments Jill, it's been awful hasn't it. Hope your little shop is OK, let us all know tomorrow. Fingers crossed for you.

I really hope The Wool Baa hasn't been affected. Fingers crossed that all is well. Let us know when you can about whether you need to cancel the meeting.
The news about the flooding has been shocking; I've been glued to SF to get the latest news. Fortunately, my family live on high ground, so they're all ok. As for me, this area missed most of the rain. We had a few heavy showers, but that was it.

All OK here at The Wool Baa:)
All OK here at The Wool Baa:)
Excellent news. Glad you're all well.
Have a good meeting on Wednesday :) .
All OK here at The Wool Baa:)
Phew! So glad we won't be in for any cut price damaged stock  Hope to see you Wed nez day :D
Glitter Star 26-06-2007, 14:43 So glad the shop is okay Jill. The hassle from yesterday and today has really got me down, so I'm looking forward even more to the knitting tomorrow and I'm so pleased we are all still meeting.
I missed the last one, so I will come this time. My mind has gone into complete panic shutdown about the latest essay, so I won't feel guilty either :)
Hey, trying not to panic but what if us Rotherham folk can't break through the barriers? Hubby couldn't get into work today (aw, shame for him) as he works in Sheffield, so if he can't get in tomorrow either, that means I can't either! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :cry::cry:
Wool4brains 27-06-2007, 06:18 Madam Bo (http://knitwrongpurlwrong.blogspot.com/2007/06/wet-blocking.html) has been flooded out and will not be at the Wool Baa meeting tonight. If it rains I might not be there either, I'm likely to be late unless the M1 reopens or the level in the Rother drops. Yesterday the road I'd normally use was closed due to flooding and the roads around are all choked with traffic trying to rejoin the motorway. I'm not complaining, I have power and no sludge in my living room.

Thinking about you mb. Hope to hear some good news soon :o
Plain Talker 27-06-2007, 07:58 yeah, what wheezy said! All the best, and good vibes for MB,
and Jill, so pleased to hear the pumps in the cellar must've held out!
All being well, see folks tonight...?

That'll be beer pumps then? :hihi::D
Madam_Bo 27-06-2007, 18:26 I hope a few of you managed to get together for a good knit this evening. I'm at my parents with the kids now - been back to look at the house and the flood didn't get higher than the basement. We were lucky. Thanks for thinking of us. It means a lot.

Good to know that you're all safe and well, Madam Bo :) .

yeah I echo that sentiment...
it was great that you managed to make it tonight.
Jill, thanks once again, for hosting tonight.
It was great to have a natter and a joke with everyone.
when's the next one?
...when's the next one?
Unless informed otherwise, it's the last Wednesday in July, which I think is the 25th :) . Look out for the sticky thread nearer to the time for confirmation.
Wool4brains 27-06-2007, 21:50 I've just mentioned to my husband that strange women have been touching his hand knit socks. He took it quite well I thought.
Thank you Jill for your hospitality, the tea was as good as ever and the company was as good as the tea.
I'm glad to hear that Madam B wasn't under water, I know that I cut corners on the housework to knit more but if you've been flooded then there can be no cutting corners, you've got to do it right.
Thanks to you all for a great meet. I just wish I could get a seat at the table......:hihi: I will be practicing my drop spindle before the next meet - no pressure! Got home to yet another power cut (arrived home at 4.45 to cook tea before racing back o the shop at 6.30 and the power was off until 6.15. I had been instructed to get chips on the way home and everywhere was closed en route as the power was off!). I then commenced a quick tour of the area until I located a chippy - chips and curry by candlelight - quite romantic:)
Glad your flood situation is manageable MB. I feel so sorry for those that have had a deluge. What a terrible task they have ahead.
I got home to find I stillcouldn't wash my hair! All is well now though, I feel clean and fresh again :)
Last night was lots of fun, as usual. I apologise for my language, which was a little colourful when the stitches kept dropping off the needles, grrr.
I can feel the urge to get a drop spindle, and go and catch a sheep :D
Well, what can I say, these meets just get better and better! Thank you so much Jill for being the perfect host - yet again. I can almost imagine you with a tray of feraro rochets (spell?) :D There were a few new faces last night, which was good to see. The family just grows and grows!! It was nice to meet you Marieh. Sat between you and Becky was a blast. I have learnt so much from you Becky, my vocabulary has been enhanced tremendosly (shame about my spelling though :()
I have a drop spindle now and when I got home at 11pm I tried to use it. It was late, I got ended up with about a 10cm length of tight twisty stuff. Knowing full well I wasn't awake enough, I sensibly put it away till morning. W4B (AKA Caroline) I cannot thank you enough! See blog later if interested (if wet, in the village hall)
And as for all you Sox Police - Give me a break - I'm innocent
** owd on a minute, it might not have been marieh it could have been maramcp!! I think you said your name was Mara didn't you? Anyway, it was you young lady, on the end, green shirt, long dark hair, sat opposite the foul mouth one, and next to the sweet and innocent (me) one - nice to meet you**
Wool4brains 28-06-2007, 08:32 For those who couldn't make it to the Wednesday meet - there are now two travelling drop spindle bags with a spindle, a set of instructions and some fluff. When Wheezy and JillM bring them back next month they will be available to go home with someone else. If you want to keep the drop spindle then it's £2.70 (what they cost me), the starter fluff is free and if you need more there's a Wingham's price list in the bag. You can have a go at spinning and if you don't like it then it has cost you nothing.

I dunno, I kept dropping my needles out of my work-in-the-round, and I was geting well irritated. I thought I would be the foul mouthed one!
Thank you W4B for teaching me the wrap-heel thingie, it was interesting! another string to my bow, I can now do the flap heel, and am attempting the wrap heel. (so would that make the group a "flap and wrap" rather than a "stitch and B*tch" ? ) sorry, that's me meandering again...
The drop spindle thing looked amazing, I was well fascinated. Thanks again for demonstrating it, W4B
I'd love for these meets to be more frequent than monthly...
I'd love for these meets to be more frequent than monthly...
Weekly would be too much do you think? But then again, it might work out that some peoples get there that week and some don't. Perhaps keep it to a maximum of say 20 (easily fit in WB).
Fortnightly? Um, yes, that sounds ok too.
Every third week?? Sounding a bit better, yes that would suit me. I am prepared to compromise and meet every three weeks. Thank you.
Right then Jill, It's sorted. Get your priorities right, we're moving in. :o:D

Oooh, can I? I'll probably be just about ready to take something new on by the next meet, I can knit like fury and get the August deadlines done...

I'm kicking myself. Last night, I realised I could have been drop spindling for a couple of hours at the meet! Why didn't I???? That way, w4b would have been able to point out where I was going wrong. Never mind, I'll go it alone, but it's a bit of a sicky household at the minute so I don't know when. Off to kick myself some more
