David Bentley should never play for England again, never mind what class your playing it should be an honour to play for your country.

I doubt he'd ever get in the full first eleven anyway m8, but at least some one who really wants to play gets a chance now.

Agreed - yet more proof of the arrogance that comes with mega wages. He's tired, bless him, he wants to get into the real world - waste of space.

U21's was very poor, but only watched the 2nd half. No surprise when Lita missed the penalty - remember these lads are trying to step up to the full international side, so missing penalties must be part of the job.

I don't know about a successful side in few years, from where I'm sitting, the next generation is 'more of the same'.

If Bentley had done this during a round of freindly matches, it wouldn't bother me, I think he'd be right to rest up.

But representing your country in a competition is an honour and for him to treat it so lightly is disappointing.

If you had seen it, you'd think differently :)

They were abysmal — very poor skills, no cohesion, no movement. We keep getting told about the great crop of youngsters we have. They don't exist. They are rubbish.

Chris Waddle was on the radio last night talking more sense than I've heard from anyone in a long while about the miserable state of youth coaching in this country.
We don't breed footballers, we breed running machines who are told to get it, then give it, and get back into position. Then it comes to matchday and they are asked to dribble the ball — poor lads can't do it.

I've seen it myself. Skilful, exuberant young kids go to professional clubs and are made bigger and stronger, developing an unwillingness to produce something out of the ordinary on the ball. Winning games is everything and individual development is a secondary concern.

In my view there should be no competitive youth football up to the age of 14. It is ruining potentially skilful players.

The only ones who seem to emerge unscathed through our system in recent times, in terms of skills, are the bloody-minded (Bentley, Rooney), the dedicated (Beckham), the freaks (Joe Cole, Gazza) or the ones who missed out on coaching altogether (Waddle).

Serbia are in the semis after a 1-0 win over the Czechs with a 93rd minute goal. From what I've seen so far, it's a bigger yawn than the Cricket World Cup!

There had been seven goals in seven games so last night's 2-2 draw was the best yet.
Leroy Lita, do you have a left foot? Certainly some coaching or practice required there!

As Waddle stated, we need to keep hold of the ball more

Serbia, next up - they have already qualified and may rest a few players...fancy England 2-0
