you could join one of the many clubs or societies, they don't spend all their time drunk and clubbing.

Amsterdam cafe culture definately ;)

I'm sure there are others in university who doesn't like drinking or clubbing. It's just that university is the time of your life for that.

Well, it's one time in your life for that... You can carry on afterwards too ;)

You dont have to drink alcohol to enjoy yourself , go along just to enjoy the socialising(spelling?) part a laugh and joke with your mates ,talk to a few ladys and have a dance if you choose to go night clubbing

PM the user t020.

IIRC he's in a similar boat to you on not being bothered about going clubbing, getting tanked up etc.

He's a student too so he may be able to offer some alternative advice on stuff to do.

i'm a student who doesn't drink, or go clubbing. I still go out to resturants, cinemas etc. Even the pub - you can still have a laugh on lemonade. Other than that, alternatives are the way to go for someone that doesnt drink.

yeh i know what you're all saying, but there's often such a reluctance from other people to do those kind of things. Obviously my friends have the same interests as me, but it's always such a struggle to find people of a similar ilk.

Bowling? (not fun on your own I suppose)
See a play? (ok on your own but better with a mate I reckon)
Dogging? (erm... what's that :heyhey: )

Do you not like drinking out or just drinking full stop?
Could always organise a forum card game round yours... like poker (not playing for anything other than fake chips).
Texas Hold-Em is the daddy for poker and I'd be up for it!

I suppose it depends on your imagination chuck!

Not a student anymore but the rest is true.

Alternative things to do? Cinema, restaurants, bars, quieter pubs, theatre, concerts, etc. Unfortunately though, 99.9% of students only care about cheap crowded clubs and drinking to the point of vomitting in the street.

i've obviously got nothing against a social drink, but as has just been said, people tend to drink until they vommit in which case the night was a 'success'.......

hmm yeh bowling always crops up, but my friends and i can never seem to bring ourselves to pay £4 on a wkd when its so much cheaper on a weekday!

poker's a good idea..
keep em coming, cheers.

You don't have to do be sick in order to class an evening as a successful one. However, those nights where one was sick on the "magic bus" in Manchester (not planned!) was the most memorable one. =)

Other ideas to the ones mentioned. How about a board game night in ? Play as teams, rack up the points, then forfeit the opposition. Or play truth or dares. (I remembered how my flatmate flashed her boobs at the porter at Xmas.) Or have a book review at home. Or movie review.

You can go salsa dancing at the Forum. I just went to the last one, and this was *such* a great laugh for us all girlies. Laughing at ourselves, as well as enjoying other ppl's companies. It was great that not everyone knew how to dance, which added the fun, plus they made u do this merengue dance in a hugh circle, so u get to meet other dancers. I was really bad at this.

It only cost us 3 quid for the whole evening. 3 hours plus. Minus the drinks.

it's nothing to do with tightness. it just makes sense to save it for weekdays where its half the price...then u can do twice the amount.

the only way you'd get me salsa dancing is after far too much vodka.

which kinda goes against the point I guess!

not everyone drinks until they're sick. You can drink in moderation.

Im not a big lover of going out either, the majority of places I realised just arent to my tastes, but.. I still like a drink, so I just go out mid-week instead to the quieter or specialist pubs (Dev Cat, Fat Cat, Sheaf View etc.)

If I dont do that, then whats wrong with a pizza and a film/music round a mates flat?

it's reassuring to know that there's someone else out there who doesn't live for getting completely wasted every night!
My boyfriend and I aren't anti-alcohol but there definitely seems to be something about being in a studenty place that makes bars and pubs fairly horrible unless u want to get trashed (which we dont!)
We seem to spend a lot of time at the Botanical Gardens, which is nice if u like squirrels etc!! Apart from that we go to the cinema.. download films (very naughty..) buy DVDs and watch them, go shopping with all our non-alcohol wasted money!, go exploring the city...
Do you play any sport? If so, it would be great to join a club of some kind.. or just find someone to play more leisurely. Or maybe even a gym, because I guess health/fitness-conscious people might not want to be destroying their livers!
Which uni are u at?

Leigh

yeh im very sporty...i played sport last year, but this year i didn't join the law football team - should have. i go to the gym quite regularly now.

agree bout bit of food n a film at a mate, but there r only so many times if u know what i mean.

How about a good wander round the countryside? Or doing the round walk? Plenty of nice places to go walking in Sheffield if you're that way inclined.

What else? Hmm...

Football/rugby match
Take up photography
Join an am dram group
Do the boozing stuff (such as going to a gig or clubbing) but just don't drink while you're there
Computer games (can be social if you get a two player racing game or something)
Museum/church/stately home visiting
Cards is a good idea (and texas hold-em is a great laugh - definitely recommend it)
Why not do one of those geeky Games Workshop RPG things (Dungeons and Dragons)
Invite your mates round and cook a meal

Loadsa stuff!
