....30mph limit for 6 months.... Was on there this morning doing 30 and i was creating a right queue. NOBODY respects the 30 limit and tbh I hate it when roadworks start. Its an uncomfortable journey for me as everybody is tailgating me and making me feel like a fool.

Quite agree with you last evening I was in the same situation observing the 30mph limit folk were whizzing by at 60mph plus giving me looks that could kill and then probably some of them come on the Forum grizzling about getting caught out by a speed camera.

Where abouts on the parkway are these roadworks, and in which direction? Sounds like it might be time for me to get a new route home from work. 30 along that strecth doesn't sound like much fun.

Handsworth to Prince of Wales Rd, both sides to be done but I presume not at the same time.

Replacing the carriageway to a depth of 1 metre to change the original hardcore rubbish that was put down when the Parkway was first built.
Goodness knows how many tons this will involve but the hardcore they take out will be used to help cap Beighton tip.

By the way I bet the the drivers would like to travel at 30 mph down the Parkway at between 7.30 am to 9.30 am

They were cutting the barriers and lifting out the lights on the central reservation tonight. I tried to get down to 30 but people wee flying past me. Please tell me that the section of barrier being removed is not the one that was replaced recently!

The Parkway is one of the worst roads in Sheffield, it's about time they fixed it. We might have to put up with roadworks for ages but it'll be worth it when it's done!

Wonder if they will ever replace the bumpy section between M1 and Handsworth. I know they've done some of it up there but there are still some horrendous bumps coming into Sheffield.

I suppose that would come under Rotherham council?

Hear Hear. Its about time something is done, I for one am prepared to queue in some roadworks if it'll mean they replace the rubbish which is down now.

It's causing big problems getting out of town in the evening rush hour. Last night I sat in traffic right back down City Road, as it seems everyone is now going up that way, as they can't use the Mosborough Parkway. Time to try another route I think.....

Mosborough parkway was closed yesterday evening, there was something said on Hallam's travel news.

Seems like the £5m redevelopment hasn't affected it's reputation.

"This piece of road also has a poor accident record and the improvements are aimed at reducing the number of accidents particularly those where one driver shunts into the rear of another. Over a five-year period, there were 28 accidents of that type reported to the Police that caused injuries to vehicle occupants. These accidents resulted in a total of 48 people being injured, but fortunately no fatalities."

Found this too, explains the uneven surface on the parkway just before it goes up to 70Mph.

"At the time the Parkway was built, recycled waste products from the local steel industry were commonly used in road construction and no problems had been experienced. A long-term chemical reaction took place with this material and this has caused the road to become very uneven. This problem is not local to Sheffield as other areas in South Yorkshire have experienced similar problems."

The road is really bad going out of Sheffield, just after the Handsworth turnoff, and if you havn't got a really tight grip on the steering wheel you could lose control, it is about time that it was sorted out.

The A630 Centenary Way in Rotherham between Canklow and the Rank Hovis building is going exactly the same way, like driving over corrugated iron.

Very pleased they are re-surfacing that section of the Parkway.

To be honest so long as they fix those bumps I'll be happy. For a bike they are a nightmare. Early this year, just before the ASDA turnoff, I hit one which caused a full on tank slapper and I was nearly off!!

I also know of another biker who has had a similar experience.

you have to come of at p o wales cross over then down to join mos parkway again and its good because you dont have to watch for traffic to you right cos its closed to traffic coming off p way but the thing that gets me is you get one man working and another 5 watching all clacking on mobiles asking whats for tea or telling somebody how bizzy they are

I too cannot wait for the work to be completed but get frustrated when I see nobody working on it when I drive to work and when I drive home !

No doubt the council are not allowed to work past 4pm in case they make too much noise for the people who decided to live right beside the dual carriageway!

Also - why is the exit slip road closed - traffic to Mosborough has to go over the PoW roundabout ?

That exit closure is frustrating to me too, but having had a think about it I guess that they can't afford to have the Mosborough traffic backed up up onto the single lane that remains on Parkway.

Are there any Council peeps reading this thread who could take note of a concern and suggestion? I'm useless at descriptions so I'll have to point you toward a photo.... here (http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n55/RichDuffy/parkway1.jpg).

On the approach (position A) there are two lanes, lane 1 = left turn only, marked for PoW road (can't remember the number), lane 2 is left or straight, marked for A57. Traffic turning left in lane 2 can no longer get onto the Parkway because of the slip road closure at point B. They must follow the diversion, go straight over the next roundabout (PoW) and then onto the Parkway. Traffic bound for Darnall now has to compete with the diverted traffic to get into the right postiion to continue their journey. So......

Why not alter the markings at point A? Make lane 1 for A57 inbound and PoW (to Manor), and lane 2 for PoW (to Darnall)?

I used the left lane to go straight over to the Parkway the other day and had to stand on the brakes as someone in lane 2 turned LEFT across me at the PoW roundabout...!! Eejit in a big flash BMW took a 9 o'clock exit from the right-hand lane!!

Doesnt seem to be much of a problem at the mo at off peak times.

Cars in the left lane doing 35ish.
Those in the right doing their usual.

It would be a problem if there was anyone actually working on the road as I can imagine it being iffy with those thin lanes and having to work so nearby.
[I dont use it during office hours - I presume its manned then?]

My car gets air off some of those bumps (ramps!).

There isn't normally a problem there though, that's just some idiot who can't drive.
It makes sense that the diverted traffic use both approach lanes to the roundabout as there is a dual lane exit to go back to the parkway.

This morning at about 7am I witnessed "those in the right" doing far more than their usual. I joined from Mosborough Parkway, fell into line in the left lane and checked my mirror for anything coming. There was nothing. Waited a few seconds to get over a particularly bumpy bit and then indicated, looked again and then watched some idiot shoot past in the right lane doing at least 90mph! A car some way in front of me then indicated and pulled out whilst still in the 30mph zone - and got unbelievable hand signal abuse followed by tailgating from this idiot all the way to M1 J33. Why are these morons never caught?

Because speed cameras don't catch bad drivers.

That's my point though - the road markings back on the Mosborough Parkway suggest that you should only use the right-hand lane to go onto the Parkway. When in fact it also makes perfect sense (given the current diversion) to use the left one.
