Winning your first race after only six races. Hope the chap who had the massive accident is ok. Sierra 10-06-2007, 18:52 Threads merged sccsux 10-06-2007, 18:53 Well done Lewis Hamilton. Winning your first race after only six races. Hope the chap who had the massive accident is ok. Robert Kubica has a broken leg:(. SpiderPete 10-06-2007, 18:53 Well after the boring waste of a race Monaco Grand Prix, we certainly got a brilliant one today. Loads of crashes, safety cars, and odd pit stops. Hamilton winning his frist race. But the highlight has to be Sato in the Super Aguri PASSING Alonso in the Mclaren, classic. Grim Reaper 10-06-2007, 18:54 4 safety cars, one major accident - Kubica has a broken leg but other than that is ok, 2 disqualifications and a number of incidents. Jenson never got off the line :( What a race, it was hard work just watching it. Brilliant. Grim Reaper 10-06-2007, 18:55 But the highlight has to be Sato in the Super Aguri PASSING Alonso in the Mclaren, classic. Brilliant move, my kids now think I'm mental. jediwarrior 10-06-2007, 18:59 track needs improvement but lewis is best british driver in many years WELL DONE donuticus 10-06-2007, 19:00 Robert Kubica has a broken leg:(. If you told me I had to crash a car like that and the only injury I would get was a broken leg I think I'd take that. sccsux 10-06-2007, 19:06 If you told me I had to crash a car like that and the only injury I would get was a broken leg I think I'd take that. It's a shame though. He'll probably miss the rest of the season now:(. Could've easily been worse, thankfully it wasn't:thumbsup:. cressida 10-06-2007, 19:37 congratulations LEWIS HAMILTON on your first GRAND PRIX VICTORY Fingers 10-06-2007, 20:09 He'll probably miss the rest of the season now When Michael Schumacher broke his leg at the British Grand Prix he was out of action for three months so Robert Kubica could be back before the end of the season (which is in late October). BMW's test driver, Sebastien Vettel, is apparently equally as promising as Kubica. happyhippy 11-06-2007, 00:40 All the very best to Hamilton, and of course to Kubica (get well soon), but I was disappointed as a Minardi/Toro Rosso (by default) fan to see Liuzzi hit the wall AGAIN. I really thought that would be our first point/s of the season. happyhippy 11-06-2007, 00:42 It's a shame though. He'll probably miss the rest of the season now:(. Could've easily been worse, thankfully it wasn't:thumbsup:. Indeed, though I reckon for quite a few years, the safest place to be has been in the cockpit. I was very worried though when I saw his head 'shudder' on the second impact. SaveUK 11-06-2007, 06:32 Well done to Hamilton was a good race he did, was a bit conserned he might sling it off the road after one of the restarts, with his cold tires ETC, but the boy did good :D now he just needs a tash like Mansell :D Kubica crash was a bit hairy, a bit more stright on into the wall than it was ( and it was not far of stright ) and he might not have been so lucky. looks like he might only have a sprain and not a brake like was first said, do not think he will be fit for the USA GP mind, but should be back for the French GP. The built up side pods and hanns system worked a treat for him too. Was a very Senna like crash, if not worse. I think Heidfeild was my "Driver of the day" ( love them ITV ways ) out paceing both the Ferrari's and alonso in the early stages, lighter on fuel maybe but not by much, Plus with the history of the track, Safty cars would almost allways come into effect at some point so a good stratagy, plus can not be easy to see your sister car upsidedown and inside out on the side of the track, then carry on raceing like he did.. Did not think Massa looked to impressed with his black flag, stood next to his twin giveing it the thumbs down to the world... made me smile mind... Sato giveing Alonso a hard time was also a highlight of the season, even if Sato was on the better tire out of the two, was funny to see. What i dont get mind is that ITV build up Lewis for the last few weeks, like this week he will do it, hes the best thing since slice bread ETC... then when he wins, do ITV hang on for like 5 mins to see what he has to say??... No coz Coranation street has to be shown for the 13th time this week...... Bring back Murrey bring back the BBC :D Ousetunes 11-06-2007, 07:19 The English Press have a new hero to build up only to wait for the opportunity to smash him to pieces at his first failing. On a more positive note, he looks very impressive and for one so young the future should be bright. Having said this, I stopped watching Grand Prix around 1986/7 and from what I've seen of it since then, I haven't missed much. PS: Further to Postman's comment, ITV should never have been able to get their adverts-and-Coronation-Street-biased-schedule filthy hands on the GP. It's blatantly obvious that in ITV's case, the racing gets in the way of the adverts. Ruff 11-06-2007, 07:54 Only saw the last few laps of what was a great win for Hamilton. Even my girlfriend (who is a complete sportaphobe) got excited when he crossed the finish line. dfgenius 11-06-2007, 10:31 Well done Lewis, a great race, didn't make a single mistake (didn't even put a wheel on the grass) for thwe whole race when just about everyone else was off-track at some point. Rosberg was doing very well as he was homing in on Alonso before they had to come in during the safety car. Shame about Davisdon as he was running 3rd and hit a beaver at the end of the main straight - that's why he came straight into the pits and the team weren't ready. He'd have been on for a podium if it weren't for that. What happened to the Ferrari's???? Even before the safety cars intervened they were slow, they need to sort themselves out before McLaren walk all over them. The impact of Kubica's accident was horrendous and I think similar to the one that killed Gilles Villeneuve (and Kubic was travelling faster when he had the impact) sallonoroff 11-06-2007, 11:02 Congrats, and all that, to Lewis Hamilton (it was obvious it was a case of WHEN rather than IF), but the highlight of the race for me was Sato taking Alonso! I blummin' loved that... . SimpyTimpy 11-06-2007, 11:23 Good on the lad. Finally a British citizen is good at a sport. I wouldn't play Hamilton and Alonso in the same midfield though :P basshedz2 11-06-2007, 14:29 Alonso doesn't look very clever when he'd under pressure does he? I was shouting at the TV when Sato was closing him down - brilliant race from Taku. Alonso sounds well bitter in this interview (http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=39566). I think it'll be interesting to see how he copes with Hamilton now. sallonoroff 11-06-2007, 14:37 I was shouting at the TV when Sato was closing him down :hihi: . Ginner 13-06-2007, 13:16 Looks like Alonso's in danger of turning into a moaning arse. Listen son, never mind alleged team bias, lucky pace car deployment, etc etc etc.... you screwed it up going into the first corner, and then did it 3 more times during the race just for good measure... it's called competition mate. If you'd been driving in Senna/Prost/Mansell's era you might not have been so lucky to have got the best ride all to yourself, with some second rate, downtrodden team mate making up the numbers next to you. Get used to it. Personally, I'm glad to see some in-team competition again. I think McLaren should enter a 3rd car and put M.Schumacher in the seat. Let's see if he'd continue setting records.... cressida 13-06-2007, 13:27 Michael Schumacher won most of his championships in the best car (ok) but against 3rd rate competition Ginner 13-06-2007, 13:29 Michael Schumacher won most of his championships in the best car (ok) but against 3rd rate competition I know. That's why I'd like to see him sat alongside a couple of competitive drivers.... like I said, let's see if he would continue to break F1 records.... Smithster 13-06-2007, 15:42 Very pleased to see Lewis get his first win. Knew it wouldn't be long. Glad I booked my ticket for Silverstone when I did as apparently, all of the general sale tickets went within 24hrs of Lewis' win. Should make for a great atmosphere anyway. Renault and Ferrari have stuffed it this season. No way that they will make up the ground on the Mclarens IMO. Which means it will come down to a straight fight between Hamilton and Alonso for the title. And if Fernando doesn't sort his head out he will hand it to Lewis on a plate. He's already spat his dummy out... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/6744297.stm He did the same thing at Renault last year when he accused them of not backing him because they didn't want him to take the No 1 status to Mclaren. :loopy: A good driver but nothing but a big cry-baby. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Hamilton takes the title this year. seeyoujimmy 13-06-2007, 15:57 Is it just me then that is sick of the coverage that Lewis is getting? It's not a race build up anymore it's Hamilton build up???? There's no doubting that the guy is fantastic and doing well but i'm sick of seeing him all over the coverage not to mention his dad, aunty and second cousin twice removed from outer mongolia, at the end of the day there are 21 other drivers on the track including 3 (not very good) Brits. The build up used to be my favourite part but now i don't tune in until 5 mins before the start. Can't wait to see the excuses when he makes his first major mistake... dfgenius 15-06-2007, 10:57 I compltetely agree about the over-hype of Lewis, it must also be daunting for him having so much attention. It doesn't take anything away from the fact that he's a fantastic driver. I think he's aldready one of the greats and to think what he will be like in a couple of years time - no-one will be able to get close to him. For those that are going to Silverstone, I'm going there through work so I'll see you there :D happyhippy 15-06-2007, 19:44 Is it just me then that is sick of the coverage that Lewis is getting? Teabag 15-06-2007, 20:18 The youngster Lewis Hamilton...they say he's driving the Mclaren on his dad's insurance...............Direct Line apparently:) Grim Reaper 15-06-2007, 20:22 The youngster Lewis Hamilton...they say he's driving the Mclaren on his dad's insurance...............Direct Line apparently:) Cheaper that way :suspect: :suspect: :hihi: :hihi: sccsux 16-06-2007, 10:14 Is it just me then that is sick of the coverage that Lewis is getting? Grim Reaper 17-06-2007, 18:45 And again YAY 10 points clear on the leader board.  Darbees 18-06-2007, 10:05 Things have changed since they were hyping Button up last year for winning the Hungarian GP at his hundred and oddth attempt. Spot the difference. cressida 18-06-2007, 14:57 if Lewis wins the championship will he be the youngest ever champion? Smithster 18-06-2007, 15:12 if Lewis wins the championship will he be the youngest ever champion? I believe so. Alonso was 23 when he won took that honour in 2005, and Hamilton is currently 22. Comes down to when their respective birthdays are I suppose. firecracker 18-06-2007, 18:16 I believe so. Alonso was 23 when he won took that honour in 2005, and Hamilton is currently 22. Comes down to when their respective birthdays are I suppose. Hamilton won't be 23 until next January. happyhippy 18-06-2007, 22:35 I'm still mildly annoyed by the fact that Liuzzi had stayed in 12th before pitting, making me think we had a chance of a point. What really came out though, was how slow last year's Red Bull was (this year's Toro Rosso). After 20 or so laps, Liuzzi was nearly 20 seconds down on 11th place. I fear it will be yet another 'pointless' season for us. Darbees 19-06-2007, 15:07 Just missed out on buying Hamiltons kart here on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lewis-Hamiltons-Vodafone-McLaren-Mercedes-Kart_W0QQitemZ140129568528QQihZ004QQcategoryZ12230 6QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) £42k Lindseyw 19-06-2007, 15:14 It will be interesting to see what he does at Silverstone, personally I think he is an arrogant little twit, with the people skills of a frog, and drives for McLaren but I have to say that he is a fabulous driver. BLAZER 21-06-2007, 22:08 this lad is brilliant dfgenius 22-06-2007, 11:17 this lad is brilliant Couldn't agree more. Though it was funny when he bent the axle on said £42,000 charity cart! :hihi: Ivor&Mel 28-06-2007, 20:41 From popbitch: >> Winning formula << Stevenage man in bet of the decade In 1998 a man watched his son soundly beaten in a go-kart race by a very fast young driver. He went to the bookies and asked to put a bet on this kid winning a Formula One race before he reached the age of 23. William Hill laughed him out of the shop, but Ladbrokes gave him odds of 200-1. After this month's Montreal Grand Prix, where 22 year-old Lewis Hamilton recorded his first victory, the chap called up Ladbrokes to claim his winnings - 40,200 pounds. Darbees 02-07-2007, 09:45 Well that was a boring one yesterday and what a bunch of miserable sods they are. The first three were up in the room behind the podium and not one of them smiled, spoke or acknowledged the presence of the others. No wonder Valentino Rossi told Murray Walker last week that he doesn't want to be in F1 cos it's no fun. They make me embarrassed to be interested in it. Highlight was the mechanic dropping and smashing Kimis bottle of champagne. dfgenius 02-07-2007, 10:34 Aye, it was a boring race, but they so often are at Mangy Cours. The GP2 race was much more interesting, the drivers on the front row crashed into each other at the start and took each other out before they got to the first corner, and they were team-mates! Then a horrific accident halfway round the first lap, very spectacular indeed. The car flipped over and landed on top of the wall! Nice to see Hamilton extend his lead and Button finally make it into the points and get 5th fastest race lap. Lindseyw 02-07-2007, 11:58 Very boring race I lost interest after a while. Roll on This weekend !!! Driving down on Thursday to Silverstone & Cant wait !! robS35 02-07-2007, 16:23 It will be interesting to see what he does at Silverstone, personally I think he is an arrogant little twit, with the people skills of a frog, and drives for McLaren but I have to say that he is a fabulous driver. Talking of arrogant little twits, Jenson Button was staying in the same resort in the Canary Islands as me last November, and what a total prick he was acting, it was look at me im Jenson Button and he came out with the classic " dont you know who i am " line, i thought it was very funny as nobody was taking a blind bit notice and i could see it was annoying the hell out of him. When his ex-girlfriend Louise something or other went on Fame Academy, he was asked how he'd manage, and he came out with an unnecessary disgusting remark on national TV which was very off-putting, no matter how inept the question he'd no need to reply like that for the public to hear his answer he could have said no comment dfgenius 03-07-2007, 11:50 totally agree, always had him down as an arrogant show-off. Talking of this weekend, i'll be down there for the race, leaving at 5AM on Sunday :o dfgenius 09-07-2007, 09:20 Well, not quite the desired result, it was clear Hamilton was struggling with his car and the Ferrari's are always quick around Silverstone. Let's hope next time Hamilton gets his set-up right and there are some improvements to the car. I was lucky enough to be there and the atmosphere was awesome - even when Adam Carroll won the GP2 race. I had a great view of about 1/3 of the circuit from Vale. I was lucky enough to be there and the atmosphere was awesome - even when Adam Carroll won the GP2 race. I had a great view of about 1/3 of the circuit from Vale. I was there too. we had grandstand seats on the pit-straight. The roar that went up when Hamilton took pole in the last seconds of the quali session was quite phenomenal. The race wasn't overly exciting but it was a good view from where we were sat and a great atmosphere. I knew Hamilton wouldn't win when he came in for his first pit-stop a few laps ahead of Raikonnen. He was obviously short-fuelled to give him his moment of glory at his home track and get pole position, and he wasn't able to get away from Kimi's Ferrari, which had been quicker all weekend, with a lighter fuel load. Good result for him still. Overall the weekend was excellent. The GP2 races were pretty good and the Historic Sports car challenge was great to watch as well. Had some nice weather as well which made for a great atmosphere on the campsite. Lindseyw 10-07-2007, 12:55 Almost perfect result !! Ferrari win again !!!
