I was looking for any live Jazz events in shefield on the weekends. i was hoping to find something like Matt&Phreds in manchester

I'm new to sheffield, so any suggestions would be appreciated

You know what Knax? I think you'll struggle. The Lescar pub on Sharrow Vale rd put on the occasional jazz night - but I think it's on a weekday. There used to be a dedicated jazz/supper club type effort in town but it went t1ts up.

Let me know if you find anything though. I'd be interested too.

There are a couple of jazz evenings in the botanical gardens, next month I think.

I think there is definitely scope for a bar that specialises in live jazz/blues in the city centre, but it would need to be marketed quite cannily for it to work.

The problem with the one-eleven club was that it didn't seem to be able to decide whether it was a live venue or a (pricey) restaurant. I didn't feel like I could just turn up, watch the acts and have a couple of drinks.

I am in the process of organising a jazz night at Sanctuary. It will probably start off being a monthly event on a Saturday night. Food will be available for those that liked food and jazz at one eleven and it may end up being free entry too.

Currently there is jazz at the Lescar on Wednesday, The Showroom does jazz duo's on Sunday and in May Sizzlers Jazz Club at Trippets wine bar closed. We hope to reopen in the fall at another venue near the city centre. All jazz and swing listings are on www.sheffieldjazzandswing.org.uk
