another family history question! :P
Apparantly my Great Great Grandfather was the keeper of the hounds for the Duke of Norfolk, his name would've been Gibson.
Does anyone know how (a) I can verify this and (b) where this position would've been based?

Here is a good list of Norfolk Records
http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/
Worth looking for the Duke of Norfolk first and then looking for information about his staff.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk
http://www.arundelcastle.org/
Maybe ring the tourist centre at the castle and ask for more details.
If you have a first name or rough year it would be easier to find information.
Good Luck.
reply received today from Arundel Castle:
'I reply to your email of 1 December 2004, regarding your research into your family history.
I have made a thorough search of our Archives and can find no mention of the name Gibson. Neither do we have any knowledge about a pack of hounds owned by The Duke.
I note that you mention a daughter who lived in Sheffield. It is just possible that your ancestor may have been connected to the Duke’s estates in that area. It may be helpful for you to contact the Sheffield Records Office.
I am sorry to have been unable to help you on this occasion, but wish you well with your continued research. '

Spook, did you know there is a Duke of Norfolk Estates Office in central Sheffield. Near to the Cathedral on St. James Street.

Hope this helps.
Do you have a first name for your gg and a rough idea of his birth
year, the more info you give the easier it is to find him.
