To be honest, Indy's a very old man and I don't think he'll last long enough to get him there :(

Thats really lovely to hear about the rat and cat, perhaps the cat can give him the comfort he needs at this time, really there isn't much else you can do, perhaps try to give him a little water maybe soacked on cotton wool, a lot of tame rats get brain tumours and this sounds like it, if he is as bad as you say it might be harder on him to start taking him to the vet... let him just be where he is comfortable and comforted to end his days.
I am truly sorry, i know from experience how rats creep into your heart and their life spans are so short, that's why i stopped leeping them

Well Ratty is still with us, he's had a stroke, we think, and after some vitamins at the vets we have our fingers crossed. I'm not sure how to post pics on here but if someone lets me know how I'll try to get one of them on here later.....after his nap it's been a big day.

So glad he's ok! Even though it does sound like he's had a rough time of it...

Give him little, very gentle cuddles for me :)

Edit: pictures - go to www.photobucket.com or www.photobox.com or similar, upload the pictures following their instructions (you need to create an account). Then copy the URL link from your photo to a reply on here and it'll come up with a link to your picture :)

Alternatively pm for my email address, send the picture to me, and I'll do it for you!

Glad to hear he's ok. Are strokes in rats common? I know they can be in piggies

Awww, glad he's home safe where he belongs.

Strokes in rats aren't uncommon, I've certainly heard of them, usually with a head tilt and trouble grasping the bars (although a head tilt can also mean inner ear infection which some are prone to) but it's not that rare I don't think.

Anyhow, tis good news that he's doing better :)

aww glad to hear he's mending. When our rabbit had a stroke a few years ago, the vets advised us to have her PTS - but our old moggie had a stroke and after medication was as right as rain and went on to live for several more yeasr, stroke free, so swings n roundabouts.

Unfortunately Indy wasn't feeling up to a full on cuddle from Bill and kept ignoring him. If I can find a better one I'll post it.

What caused the stroke?

mojo1
05-06-2007, 14:20
He has a few lumps and bumps that could be clots but the vet said it was an old age thing. He's ancient and to be fair I'm amazed he's not had problems before, I thought he had breathing problems but it would appear he's just noisy.
I was forced into cooking a bread and butter pudding last night to make him eat something and he's really improved after a good sweet meal. Today he seems quite happy although he's dragging his legs a little and falls over when he tries to turn round

Aww- how fab. When our old cat Oscar was on his last legs, our daft dobe 'adopted' him and kept him warm and comfortable during his last days- it's lovely how animals sense illness and seem to want to make things better. Lovely.

Hi people, sad news. Indiana the rat passed away last night after having a good three months since his stroke. Unfortunately he developed a tumour and was going to the vets this week to be put to sleep.
I'm glad he died peacefully at home instead and he had a great life with his buddy, Billy cat.

Billy was the one who told me when he died, it was really sweet and sad.

He will be missed.

Yeah, I don't want to leave it too long as I want the cats to stay used to them, if you know what I mean.

Wierd how we get so attached to little creatures like a rat but we do. I had a rat a few years ago and I was upset as hell when he died.
They make good little pets but its sad they dont live for a long time like cats or dogs.
