View Full Version : Somewhere nice to eat and chat in town
yummyyumyum 31-05-2007, 05:18 PM hi
me and a friend are meeting for a meal and girly chat tonight.
usually we only go for a drink in town or one of us drives so we go further afield if having a meal.
i cant say ive been to any of the restaraunts in city centre or nr to so dont know where would serve nice food and be ok for a bottle of wine and a natter after.
can anyone recommend anywhere?
EdnaKrabappe 31-05-2007, 05:20 PM What's your budget?
yummyyumyum 31-05-2007, 05:23 PM as long as its not over the top expensive not really a problem
sallie 31-05-2007, 05:45 PM The Ivory is really nice:)
EdnaKrabappe 31-05-2007, 05:49 PM Las Iguanas don't tend to rush you and they do deals on wine until 7 depending on what time you are going.
Bar 23 is lovely:love: but a bit more costly but worth it.
wuduswitch 31-05-2007, 05:51 PM :) Hi, Mommas on Norfolk St is great, the food's wonderful and it's lovely 'n relaxed, a little more formal but still comfortable is Maso's, just round the corner on Surrey St.
yummyyumyum 31-05-2007, 05:51 PM what do you mean by costly?
also where are these places?
not going out till about 8ish.
seen the place nr waitrose( not sure what its called, on corner bottom of london road) any good?
EdnaKrabappe 31-05-2007, 05:54 PM Well last time I went it was a £40 meal.
Had quite a nice burger in Bungalows and bears last week and that was only £7. No starters required and didn't finish the meals as there was too much. Everyone enjoyed their food.
samstar999 31-05-2007, 05:57 PM What place on London Road ... can you describe? Do you mean the Thai place in an old bank? If so and you are interested in Thai food - the Siam Inter Thai further up London Rd is better IMHO.

I'd second that.
yummyyumyum 31-05-2007, 06:00 PM £40 each was actually what i was thinking as a cut off point.
was the meal 3 course?
to be honest was only thinking of having a "light" meal, not bothered about a full meal.
we are looking more for somewhere that we can have a bit of something nice to eat but where we can sit and have a drink and natter aswell.

that probably is the place i was thinking.
just looked a nice place to go
the type of food isnt really an issue as im sre we can find something from the menu.
just looking for somewhere that is relaxed and dont have to be rushed out, want to bew able to gossip over food then sit and have a bottle of wine
EdnaKrabappe 31-05-2007, 06:06 PM Mmm to be honest the sam inter thai do tend to serve you very quickly. You might be better off with somewhere that turns into a bar later and so isn't in a rush for you to leave your table.
samstar999 31-05-2007, 06:09 PM My thoughts exactly. If you don't really mind about the food - what about somewhere like the Robin Hood at Millhouses ... it's a non-smoking pub and they do food (kind of!!!). Failing that - what about All Bar One - they do nice food and obviously you stay as long as you want. Bar Ha Ha is another possibility - although the food in there isn't that good and the service is terrible. Can't think of anywhere else ...
EdnaKrabappe 31-05-2007, 06:12 PM Wig and pen on Campo lane? I often go there when i like to have a chat. Lovely food too and you can have tapas if you just want something light.
yummyyumyum 31-05-2007, 06:13 PM thanks for suggestions
as we are both from opposite ends of town we wanted somewhere pretty central, we do usually go out of town but we want to have a drink tonight as we havent seen eachother for a bit so want to catch up.
this is where the problem starts as we only usually drink when going central.
bar one might be a plan, although i would have thought they stopped serving food before 8
samstar999 31-05-2007, 06:31 PM I don't know when they stop food ... sorry. Have a nice evening!
yummyyumyum 31-05-2007, 06:34 PM thanks,
will try robin hood on another night.
think we will just see where we end up.
might try campo lane though.
What about the Cafe Rouge near Peace Gardens?
Drinks = French Wine
Kind of nice in the summer when the early evening is still light. You can sit outside or near the windows to people watch. :)

A bottle of Sancerre or Fleurie Red. ;)
The Forum. Good for drinks, and light meals.
Pizza Express. Okay for Italian wines, good for light Italian meals.

simone1975 31-05-2007, 08:20 PM What about Cubana ... yummy!
astronaut77 04-06-2007, 09:23 PM I had a nice meal at cafe uno the other night on eccy rd. Booked table for 8pm, wasn't rushed at all, infact when we ordered another bottle of wine I asked if they needed the table and the waiter was great - he said the table was ours all night if we wanted it.
Food was great, wasn't overly expensive. Nice atmosphere and very very friendly attentive waiters.
