Inspired from the rapcra thread...If you had to recomend an album from the genre of music you love to someone who doesn't like it, what would it be?

Easily Led Zeppelin IV or Led Zeppelin II. Sometimes I don't understand how people just can't at least appreciate it.

A signed by all the band presentation copy of Zep II is up for auction in a week for charity. I am tempted.

Oh yes, the music would have to be 'In my time of Dying' or When the Levee Breaks' by Zep of course.

do you have a link for it?

No. Just an e-mail address. If you drop me a pm I can e-mail you the photo of it or try
http://www.compton-hospice.org.uk/
where there is a fundraising section but I can't find anything specific to this.

My charity has been given the opportunity to auction signed discs courtesy Our Price but they don't have any Zep ones left!

Oh, It's reached £1,055 so far, which will be the starting bid price at the auction. I still think that's pretty cheap.

led zeppelin are great...but i dont think they have done a album that i could put on random play and love every track.. but thats personal choice...theres just something about led zeppelin that doesnt do much for me... bout 10 songs that i LOVE but so many that i just dont get.

i loved the jimmy page / david coverdale album 10 times more than any led zeppelin album!. but thats me :)

ok...i recommend APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION by guns n roses. every track a killer, right time, right people, right songs. perfect.

and for any1 who likes def leppard, extreme or any melodic rock.. check out HAREM SCAREM's debut album. not too many people know about this canadian band..and they are absolutely amazing.

:) byezebye

(led zep fans dont hit me... ;) i was tryin to play livin lovin maid recently  .......trying.. haha.. i didnt get far past the riff)

John Mayer - Room For Square. I never get tired of playing it, and as most people here haven't heard of him I would recommend it. Has one of my all time fav songs on too 'Your Body is a Wonderland', but so many great songs on there. BUY IT NOW!!!

livin lovin maid.....trying to play on the guitar....i often play the intro / main riff then give up. haha. :) amazing song.

why is it confusing to put guns n roses and led zeppelin in the same post?

John mayer is great/ Led Zep is fab but you need to be introduced to it carefully.

I would reccommend AC/DC if you want blood if you are in a rock mood.

Or if you are in a melodic mood
Try Spilt Milk by Jellifish

I know that a lot of people are put off by the music of Bob Dylan, the album I would choose to recommend would be.

Blood on the Tracks - 1975

p.s. "In my time of Dyin" is a Dylan original :)

Joking about Guns and Roses and Led Zeppelin being in the same post nevermind- that joke fell flat on it's face.

I play Stairway to Heaven (on guitar) up to the solo then: "stuff it" :P

Livin Lovin maid is good but it's not on of my favourites, I like the track after that, 'Ramble On'

At 'Wavelength' on London Road (guitar shop) they used to have a sign in the bit where you could try out guitars and amps:-
"No Stairway to Heaven."

Try downloading any Django Rheinhardt / Hot Club of France for guitar licks and then remember Django only had 3 working fingers on his left hand! Howdeedoodat?

Yes panda street legal really good, but then again i could go on all day boring you about other albums/outtakes/lyric changing ha ha ha

At the moment I am hooked on a live album called "stop cryin" (based on the song from street legal) which is brilliant. Different versions of tangled up in blue, shelter from the strom and I want you. More or less the same time as Budukhan 78.

See there I go, give me an inch I take a mile.

Strictly Commercial, by Frank Zappa. A collection of his more accessible, lyrical funny material with a serious dose of impossible guitar and rich, orchestral music. Perfect gift for non-zappa fans who need to see the light,

Sorry, not true. It's a traditional song. Dylan learned it from the 1930s versions by Blind Willie Johnson and Josh White.

To broaden it out from Dylan a bit some albums I'd suggest to people who wouldn't normally consider the respective genres.

The Libertines Up The Bracket
Mike Oldfield Crises
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here

They've all got a real variety of stuff on them, and probably would surprise a lot of people as to their overall quality.

How about London Calling by The Clash? Punk, Reggae, Ska and Blues on one album!!!! Totally revolutionised the media perceptions about punk's limitations and still sounds relevant today. I have the album on CD and had the 25th anniversary album for Christmas..... Highly reccommended if you want a taster of what The Clash were about.

"Discovery" by ELO. A good album, although a horrendous dance version (ie a few lines from the song repeated over and over again) of one of the songs is being played regularly on Galaxy at the moment.

Bruce Springsteen- 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town'

It will take a few listens to get into it (not as instantly catchy as Born To Run) but the lyrics are amazing and you will eventually be hooked.

Is everybody over 50 on this page?!! Some of the music recommendations remind me of smashy and nicey's playlist...tinted Aviator's anyone?

After saying that I respect other people's choice of music as its their choice.

I would just like to recommened an album called Everyday by The Cinematic Orchestra. If you like chilled out nouveau jazz then get it. Or even try Brand New Second Hand by Roots Manuva....meaningful british rap which is darker than a dark night in Pitsmoor

I don't really have a favourite type of music....one album I am really enjoying at the moment and I can't really say why is Black Cherry by Goldfrapp.

The band that got me into metal was Pantera and 'This Love' so that would have to be Vulgar Display of Power

anything by the smiths, they're not as miserable as everyone says. Esp. The queen is dead

Also if you didn't get razorlights album, up all night, last year then do so soon.

Also i literally found a copy of stevie wonders songs in the key of life, and i thought it was superb, esp. the second volume.

Moon Safari by Air can't be beat for chilled out grooves, and Off the Wall is my favourite disco album, and IMO Jackos best.

I would recommend Tago Mago by the German band, Can. This album, first released in 1971, has just been reissued in remastered form on Spoon. It is a wonderful mixture of Teutonic avant-gardism, spidery, choppy guitar work and cyclical drumming. Bands and artists like Brian Eno, New Order, Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, Cabaret Voltaire, John Lydon [Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd], have all cited Can, and particularly their work on Tago Mago, as a major influence. The best track is Hallelujah, which predates the kind of funky, repetitive, dischordant material Miles Davis attempted in the later seventies. Listen to this album by ex-students of Stockhausen, and you will hear something very special, mysterious and European. You will hear the sound of a truly original and experimental band, who sound like one big, organic, pulsating organism. Heil Tago Mago!
