We got married in Cyprus 5 years ago next week, using First Choice, who were excellent.
The actual wedding bit cost us £50 ish, plus our normal holiday price, so all in all it came to around £2k ish. (Nice hotel)
The beauty of Cyprus is that you can have friends and family come out as well, without going OTT.
We had a morning wedding followed by Champagne reception in the hotel. Then off to a villa where family was stopping for an afternoon buffet and pool party. Finally everyone back in to wedding gear to a local taverna for a traditional Cypriot Mezzi/wedding party.
First Choice did all the running around for us, and sorted the wedding car and photographer. We just relaxed!!!
Pick a place which you think will suit you best and just enjoy it!!!
Cheers
Jim:thumbsup:
PS Got engaged in Mexico and it's hot!!!!!
I know a few people who have got married abroad and for whom it's all gone swimmingly, and about the same number who have planned it all then had so much gone wrong once it's out of their hands that I'm not sure I'd recommend getting married abroad at all.
dilly it doesnt matter where you get married if you love each other:) :)
livestrong 16-07-2006, 16:51 pesonally having got married abroad... i wouldn't do it again... i had what can only be descirbed as the "picture perfect" wedding (ask medusa).
however... unfortunately it wasn't to the perfect individual and it cost a bloody fortune (circa 20K).
my recommendation forget everything else... location etc etc and just make sure the person is perfect... that is all that matters... if i get married again then that is all i am bothered about.
good luck :)
i got married in las vegas, and had a brilliant time, the whole thing cost less than £2000, and that was including the helicopter flight over las vegas

I want to go back and renew our vows for our 5th wedding anniversary in 2008, but thats also the same year as my 40th birthday, so we had decided to renew our vows at the same chapel for our 10th wedding anniversary and go to las vegas for my 40th.
so looking forward to being 40 now

squeakyclean 18-07-2006, 16:41 I would say go for it!
I got married in Florida 3 years ago, with just my other half and our children present. It went really smoothly, with an afternoon spent at Clearwater watching the dolphins.
There were no bickerering relatives to worry about, plus it only cost around $300 on top of our holiday cost.
We booked the whole thing ourselves direct with the chapel, which was cheaper.
also some wedidng companies offer an online photo album. Ours did and our family saw our piccies before we did!
Good luck!
Classic Rock 30-05-2007, 15:41 Has anyone any experience of getting married abroad?
Is it best to go through an agent to sort it all out? Are there any UK companies who do the sorting who you'd recommend?
We're thinking of Australia but don't really know where to start.:help:
Yellowrose 30-05-2007, 21:25 We got married in Las Vegas and did it ourselves on the spur of the moment. It wasnt difficult. Packages have lots of extras that you may not want or need, and they charge over the odds.
Start at the register office or county offices of the place you want to get married, they should give you all the info you need. We just needed to turn up at Clark County Marriage Bureau offices in Las Vegas with our passports and wait in line with everyone else. Nothing else except $55 for the licence. Once you got the licence any chapel or hotel would marry you. They didnt even want to see our divorce decree, just date of divorce when we filled in the form. We bought our clothes whilst we were there, I went to a local supermarket with a florists in and asked them to make me a small bouquet, which they did, very cheaply. It cost $14.99 and was bigger than the ones the wedding chapels charged $50-60 dollars for. Also bought the ring there, not particularly cheap, but fairly easy to find. The wedding chapel supplied a photographer with studio who took a film of 12 prints for $75 which we got developed at the drug store and then bought a souvenir album.
After the wedding we went for a fantastic gondola ride in the Venetian casino, as there is a grand canal there. The gondola serenades you for no extra cost! It was great fun. I had had a church wedding 20+ years ago and found the las vegas one much more fun.
Yellowrose 30-05-2007, 21:45 We got married a couple of weeks ago in Las Vegas and I would just like to share with you how easy and cheap it is compared to other ways. It was also so much fun :hihi:
A couple of days before we flew out I was surprised by my partner showing me details of a fly drive and telling me he was going to book it and we could get married there. It was a my travel flight, and the lead price was £49 each but with taxes and supplements and meals it worked out at about £150 each.
We booked 4 nights at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino Sunday to Thursday at a special low rate we got on the net through expedia. Essentially for 2 adults and 2 children in a room with two queen sized beds it was about £26 a night plus tax. Weekend nights are more expensive in Vegas though, so beware. We drove down to Laughlin and stayed one night at the River Palms for an incredible $20 and the second night for $60. We visited Hoover Dam, then returned to Vegas for the last night.
We had a hire car in with the flight and of course there was insurance on that, but it was up to you what level you chose.
The Monday morning after our arrival we went to the Clark County offices and waited in line to get a marriage licence. You only need $55 and your passports. You dont need your divorce decree or your birth certificates (we packed both) just the date of your divorce if divorced.
Then after that any wedding chapel will marry you for around $50. They also do expensive packages that include a lot of things you might not need like a candle lighting ceremony etc. So we just found our chapel (The World Famous Little White Wedding Chapel) and had a basic $55 dollar ceremony including use of chapel and music. The minister you pay a tip/gift to of between $40-$60 dollars. The chapel provided a photographer who took some stunning photos and then gave us the film which we developed ourselves. The photographer charged $75 for his services, the film and the studio. We could have had a limo if we had paid a bit more but tbh we werent bothered about that as we have a baby and a small child and couldnt bear the hassle of child safety seats ? do they have them in limos?
We bought our outfits from Ross Dress for Less at an outlet on the strip. They are a bit like TK Maxx, selling designer labels at reduced prices. Plenty of stuff suitable for weddings. A nearby supermarket (VONS) had a florist in it and she made me a lovely little bouquet with 7 red roses, gypsophilia and foilage for $14.99. The shops were charging $70 dollars and up. We bought our ring from the jewellers store in the mall. I wish I had bought it here because they only have 14 carat gold and I would have bought 18 ct but its fine.
It was great fun!!!! and no hassle at all.
We rounded it off with a romantic gondola ride in the Venetian, when we were serenaded.
The only thing I wish I knew before was that to get your official marriage certificate you have to send a $10 dollar cheque or money order to the Clark County Recorder after your marriage. You can send off the form from England, no probs, but I couldnt get a money order over here. Apparently they are available from casinos and post offices over there, so if you do it, get one from over there.
If you do it at the last minute it really is great fun and you dont have months of worry. It really is the best way. I loved every minute of it and Im still on a high:love:
If you want any info, please ask.
Classic Rock 30-05-2007, 23:56 Hmmm, not really what I had in mind.
Admittedly some of the packages I've seen online do include things which we wouldn't want. Ideally we'd be after a wedding planner which we could pass it all to, ideally based in Australia, who could co-ordinate it all for us and could come up with suggestions and ideas - not a ready made check list.
I'd rather have photos and flowers done more formally I think.
Did you really buy your rings from a supermarket??? :o
We got married in the Dominican Republic and booked wih thomas cook, all sorted brilliantly no stress at all only had to get our outfits and rings and thats it! Only stressful bit was getting our marriage certificate translated back into english as they speak spanish in the Dominican! But all in all was brill, wanna do it all over again!
Yellowrose 31-05-2007, 20:13 No I bought my ring out there i.e. in Las Vegas but in a Jewellers!
But having a wedding co-ordinator is a serious waste of money. Its not difficult to do yourself.
I have just returned from a package deal with T Cook In Cuba, Cayo Guellermo.
We went as a party of 8 so got the Basic hotel package free but had to pay extra a photographer, videographer, horse and cart and also for a live salsa band to play at the ceromoney which cost an extra £300 in total.
We decided to Marry abroad with as little fuss as possible so had a wedding planner arrange all the details for us, a 1 hour meeting with her to arrange times etc and all we had to do was show up at the right time and place.
We got exactly what we wanted, and what we expected.
We looked at a lot of diferent holiday companies for the wedding package and if I rember corectly "Kuoni" had Australia, Fiji etc in their wedding brochure with pre arranged packages.
Hope this Helps
Classic Rock 15-06-2007, 09:57 It doesnt HAVE to be Australia, any ideas of inspiration welcome.
stonecircle 15-06-2007, 21:36 Hi Buffy,
How about http://www.spbthailand.com/chapel.html
or still in Oz http://www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/royal_botanic_gardens/venue_hire
I have lots of ideas on this - need to know what YOU want!
Hopefully catch up with you at the Tarana gig at the Moorfoot tomorrow,
Sarah x
Classic Rock 19-06-2007, 11:55 Thanks! (Now I know what you meant by putting a post on the Forum!).
Some interesting ideas here.
Any more from anyone else?
Classic Rock 26-06-2007, 21:45 We've now decided to go to Hawaii instead of Australia. Any experiences folks?
flufftier 29-06-2007, 10:21 We're getting married in Las Vegas next year and I was wondering what you have to do to make sure it's all legal when you get back to the UK. I've heard you ahve to send you marraige certificate off somewhere but don't know any details...
Classic Rock 02-07-2007, 12:33 I think you just need to inform the registry office at the Town Hall.
We are looking at getting married in Sri Lanka next year. Possibly going with first choice. Should hopefully cost us about £2,100 and no hassle like there would be at home.
honeyb35 11-07-2007, 19:53 my sons physio got married in las vegas on a motorbike apparently! how cool! lol
Classic Rock 12-07-2007, 07:54 Having researched this a fair bit, it seems that it may work out cheaper to book the hotel and flight and then book the photographer and person who will be doing the marriage separately. Then you also don't get a McWedding and get just what you want. Most package weddings seem to automatically come with engraved champagne glasses which you pay for as part of the deal. It's not really what we want.
squeakyclean 14-07-2007, 11:51 We didn't have to register our wedding over here at all,as it depends on the country you get married in.We got married in the USA.
Classic Rock 16-07-2007, 08:40 So how does this country get to find out if you're married? I'd have thought you'd have to show your certificate to the registry office.
digimissus 16-07-2007, 22:01 :love:We were going to get married in Greece. (Lindos on Rhodes-the best place on earth!) but decided that many people could not afford to come, and did we really want friends and family on the honeymoon!
As far as I know all of the legal paperwork needs sorting out in old Blighty-reading of the banns / proving that you are both elligable for marriage / that you actually know each other etc! needs to be sorted at the registry office/ town hall.
When we looked into it, it became apparent that it was FAR cheaper, and more tasteful to book things seperately but you probably need some local knowledge or contacts. But,..... having our wedding in this country last year was far more expensive than any wedding package deal!
Anyway, good luck- hope it's the right thing for you. (let us know where you decide to go.)
Classic Rock 01-08-2007, 08:15 Well, it's booked. We're off to Hawaii in May next year. After a fair amount of trawling of wedding co-ordinators we've found a professional photographer who can also do all the arrangements. It's fairly inexpensive to actually have the wedding, the main costs of course are the flight and accommodation, but we'd spend that on a honeymoon anyway.
We'll have a small group coming with us, but that's how I want it. Being in the public eye as a DJ all the time, there would be far too many people who'd expect to be invited and it would just get silly and stressful. I dread to imagine the wedding reception/disco - aaarrghh! I love to DJ them, but don't want one myself - I'd be forever checking the DJ, adjusting levels and it would be a busman's holiday for me! Getting away from it all will make it far more special.
I understand that a Hawaii wedding, with it being a US wedding, is legal all over the world. I still am not sure if it needs recording in the UK or if they do it for us. Anyone know?
squeakyclean 03-08-2007, 17:00 As I said above, you won't need to register your wedding here, your wedding certificate will be valid. for name changing etc. Do obtain some copies though.
We got married in the Domincan Republic last year through First Choice and it was a total disaster.
First Choice totally ruined the wedding (I'm not going to get into it all again) it was so horrifc that we ended up getting more than half our money back as compensation.
Domincan is lovely but it's a nightmare legally. You need to have a declaration of status done for both people, need birth certs and you need to have them legalised by the britsh consulate, then translated into spanish then legallised by the domincan consulate. Then when your married it takes approx 3-6 months for the marriage cert to come through and then that needs to be translated to! We had to send ours back as my oh's date of birth was wrong lol
Anything that could go wrong did. We love being married though but I'd love to do it all again and have it special!
Classic Rock 07-08-2007, 12:48 Now that's worrying. At least in Hawaii it is fairly straight forward. Are there any warnings you'd give, things to be extra aware of and check on?

We got married in the Dominican and had to go through all that too, i didn't think it was that bad! We had to send our certificate back because at the bottom they had written that they had married my hubby to his MUM lol!!!!!! They changed it and sent it back straight away but we did it through Thomas Cook and they were brilliant!
affdahuk 12-08-2007, 21:49 i went with my fiancee and our children to the dom rep last yr. on the same plane as us were a party of about 30 people who were flying out for a wedding. when we arriaved they turned out to be in our hotel...the problems they had were terrible to say they had booked everything through a travel agents and were supposed to have a stress free day!! everything that could have gon wrong for them did..then to top it off when they finaly got a day booked that the registrar could come they decided to use a SMALL peice of grass bang behind the swiming pool for the ceromany. it was a big all inc complex so as you can imajine people wr running in and out the pool in there trunks and bikinis!!!
me and my fiance are getting married 4th june 08 in cyprus. we went out for a week holiday over easter this yr.we booked meetings with wedding co-ordinators from both sides of the island, hired a car and traveled round. it was lovely to be met and shown round and given options as to where we could have our special day. it was all free of charge for the co-ordinators to do and it have us a real chance to see first hand where our money would be going. i strongly recomend this. of course we have to pay for our holiday over there but that was it.
we came back to england with all the relevant info , sat down and decided where to have our day. you see this way you can go woth all your questions, ask prices ect, see all the hotels , churches and registary venues for yourself. its all part off it and we enjoyed the trip loads. there will be 64 adults and 35 children coming with us next year and all we did was collect relevent info and put it together in a pack we sent out with the invites and people can book there own holidays. good luck with whatever you decide to do. pm me if you would like to no more
We had a meeting with our wedding co ordinator when we arrived in the dominican, everything went perfect. They showed us where we would be geting married, showed us behind the scenes in the hotel, where our flowers were being prepared and everything!! It all went very smoothly, so much so i wanted to do it all again! We went to the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, apperently the director of Thomas Cook holidays there so thats why we chose it!!
Classic Rock 18-08-2007, 17:46 Well we have a confirmation through from the Hawaiian wedding co-ordinator, we've to meet him 4 days before the wedding at his office to discuss the details and probably get the certificate sorted out. He has also offered to answer any emails/questions we have and has sent pics of places to do the deed. All sounds good so far.
missyowl 22-08-2007, 10:35 Im getting married in november in turks @ caicos, booked it through going places, only problem we have had so far is all the bloody legal papers needed to be stamped and signed by a notary of the public took us a few attempts to get all the paper work right, but we got there in the end,we meet with our wedding wedding co-ordinator the day after we arrive, and get married 6 days after we have arrived.
Ewdenstar 11-09-2007, 06:58 Good luck with the wedding - great news for you that you have sorted it so soon. I got married three weeks ago in Bradfield and it chucked it down on the big day but we still had an absolute ball! At least where you are going you have much better odds of not getting rained on!

It even raining on our wedding day, so everything that could go wrong really did! However a really nice Canadian couple told me that it's actually good luck for it to rain on your wedding day as it had rained on theirs and they'd been married 44years! He said it's a common thought in Canada.
If it's good enough for them it's good enough for me!
quotealimo 16-09-2007, 23:42 Got married in St Lucia. Absolutely nothing like it in the world. They really look after you, treat you like you would want to be treated and more!
They really know how to throw a wedding too. Well worth it. Worked out much cheaper than getting married in the Uk too!
Classic Rock 22-11-2007, 08:53 Getting married on a beach in a tropical climate sounds great, but practically I don't want a heavy dress which I will slowly cook in.
I'm after something lightweight - the dresses in the shops all are big heavy multi layered ornate frocks!
Do I really have to order something sight unseen and tailor made from China on ebay or does such a thing exist in this country?
Elphi 24 22-11-2007, 12:19 Monsoon do a nice range of dresses that probably suit a beach wedding
hi
don't know what you want to spend their dresses are pretty pricey but avorio in west one (£1000 to £3000 i think) sells jenny packham she has some dresses which might suit the beach. have a look here www.jennypackhambride.com i'm getting my dress from their and they aren't too heavy at all the ones on the website are the new collection and the shop is still selling the old collection but they are all similar. Marks and Spencer also have some nice dresses. Good luck i hope you find one.
sorry it wouldn't let me put in a link for some reason
Sarah1982 26-12-2007, 15:16 Im getting married sometime in 2009 and considering vegas.
Has anyone here been married in Vegas before? or been to a vegas wedding.
Any hints or tips would be appreciated,x
JarvisCocker 02-01-2008, 14:18 Yes me!!!! Last year on 23rd September 07. It was at the Gracelands Wedding Chapel, Elvis walked me down the isle while singing 'Can't help falling in love with you', it was fun and fabulous and certainly a day to remember.
We didn't decide to get married until the morning of the day, we were on holiday there anyway. There was only us two and two friends of ours at our wedding, but we did have a DVD done so we could show our friends and family when we got home. And then we had a big party when we got back. It was such good fun and we haven't had the honeymoon yet, thats happening in Feb!
The only thing you have to do in advance is get your marriage license. You can do this once you are there, the office is open very long hours every day. You just need your passport, and you fill in a simple form there and then. It's all very easy.
A Vegas wedding can be as simple and quick or as big and bold as you like, but whatever you do I'm sure you'll love it. We had the most amazing day and I didn't come down for weeks afterwards.
Good luck with what ever you decide!

Great stuff I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. Go and see the Beatles "LOVE" show by Circ de Soleil while you are there, you'll need to book tickets before you go to get good seats. But it is amazing, the best show I have EVER seen. I'm sure it's why we ended up getting married, made us feel all warm and fluffy after we'd seen it!!
Good luck with the wedding too!

Tanya T 1 08-01-2008, 09:35 My brother got married in Las Vegas in 2004, he got married and we stayed in the MGM. He got married at the Forever Grand Wedding Chapel. Then we had a 4 course meal at the Monte Carlo Hotel. It was fantastic!
Oh well I've taken the plunge, only getting married in the spring!
Has anyone got wed abroad, if so how much does it cost? We're just planning on us two and a witness, so it will be no big deal, and fairly inexpensive, we hope!!
mods please edit i meant foreign wedding
I don't have any suggestions/answers Mikey (I think it depends on what 'package' your choose etc etc) but I've moved your thread (as well as editting the title) as I think the Wedding Group might come up with the best answers to your question :)

you can be the witness:D
we looked at jamaica, florida and canada. there was 3 adults and 3 kids and it was expensive. your best bet would be going to the travel agents as different destinations have different rules. or try the kuoni website.
Classic Rock 09-01-2008, 08:19 I'm getting married in Hawaii in the Spring.
We've booked just like a normal holiday and have found a wedding co-ordinator over there who will sort out the licence and the person to run through the vows and the photography AND anything else we need. They're not charging that much for the arrangements.
If you do it through a company (I've seen ALL the brochures) then it proves to be more expensive than finding a co-ordinator to sort it who lives in the country. Just Google 'wedding co-ordinator' and the country you want to do it in and take it from there.
Different countries have different rules regarding the licence. One country we looked at, I forget which, insisted that you had to buy about £200 in postage stamps along with the licence!!
Speed Dates 20-01-2008, 18:05 Has anyone got any suggestions on a beach wedding (not in the carribean) or just a wedding abroad with a difference?
Classic Rock 21-01-2008, 09:33 We're getting married in Hawaii in May this year. So excited! We've hired a wedding co-ordinator/photographer who'll sort out all the arrangements for us when we get there. All we need to do is turn up at his office. We've booked flights, hotels and hire cars through an agent and the co-ordinator will sort the rest. The plan is to marry on the beach, have photos taken and then be taken by a limo to a boat for a sunset cruise and have a gourmet chef cook for us on the boat.
Speed Dates 21-01-2008, 11:13 That sounds fantastic! What are you doing about guests? We are having a real dilemma about that. Sounds selfish but we'd like to do it on our own and then come home and have a party. Has it took you long to organise? Ideally we'd like to do something this summer.
Classic Rock 21-01-2008, 20:56 I've simply told people that if they want to come they are very welcome but they have to pay for themselves to get there and stay there.
Because I'm a DJ and I have so many years serviced doing weddings, I just wanted to do something totally different. Additionally because I'm in the public eye a lot as a DJ I wanted to escape from it and we both agreed to get away from it all and keep it low key. I imagine we'll arrange something when we get back - not planned that yet.
We got engaged in May last year and agreed to stay engaged for a year. We settled on Hawaii in June/July and booked it and the co-ordinator then. We've not started planning anything much yet, simply because there is so little to do now. We get there, meet the man who sorts it all out, go through the options with him and kaboom, it's done and all we do is go through the motions on the day.
I need to lose weight (as all brides do), buy a dress and shoes and pack my suitcase.
We'll need to get rings too. My fiancee is hiring a tuxedo over there. I was gonna hire a dress, but it'll be sods law that nothing will fit and I'll look like a snowball in whatever they have.
It works out a lot cheaper than paying for a British wedding plus then paying for a honeymoon. Instead it's a memorable place, great photography and will be fun. It's not selfish. It's your day after all. You do what you want, not what your family want! And when you come back and want a party, let me know when it is and I'll DJ for you :)
SMoorhouse 23-01-2008, 09:46 We have decided to get married on a cruise ship only a few of the companies do this though. We are going through P&O, so we get a great holiday and a wedding. We wanted to do a cruise for the honeymoon anyway.
We've told people that if they want to come then they are more than welcome to come but they have to pay for themselves. Lots of people told us just to get away (especially with having a complicated family) and make sure the day is for us and not for everyone else
weenireeni 23-01-2008, 09:56 This sounds lovely, I'd love to get away if I ever get married! My only niggle would be the cost, is it really that much cheaper? I'd want to pay for my Mum to come too, I know she wouldnt afford it otherwise!
*sigh* wish i was getting married lol!
Speed Dates 27-01-2008, 15:31 Zanzibar - I have seen it in a brochure and it looks fantastic! I'm going to look into and see what the prices are like. Has anyone been?
Classic Rock 28-01-2008, 14:14 I've just found out I'm getting married on the beach where Lost was filmed!!!
Speed Dates 06-02-2008, 19:52 Hello
The other half and I seem to be going around in circles at the moment. We want to get married abroad, preferably on the beach (somewhere like The Seychelles) but we would like to talk to someone before we just go ahead and book a wedding in the Seychelles.
Does anyone know of a wedding co-ordinator who specialises in weddings abroad?
Classic Rock 07-02-2008, 13:29 I'm getting married in Hawaii and found a co-ordinator that lives on the island. They know the local way of life and have advised me which documents I need and what to bring. Local knowledge is far better in my book.
DiamondGirl 21-03-2008, 14:49 HI.

DiamondGirl 22-03-2008, 18:41 HI.
I bought my dress today from Debenhams. It is a wedding dress but not too thick. I just need it altering and dry cleaning as cos its been tried on the bottom is a bit grubby (got 20% off which is good)

As nice as the whole sun-kissed beach wedding sounds i don't fancy sweating like the proverbial all day..... and i know our lass is the same.
Are there other locations to consider?
I saw a programme on telly about some "ice hotel" on swedish frozen lakes. Not sure i want to go that far, but its a start.
What about the likes of Italy and the rest of europe?
i think the plan would be immediate family and friends over there and then big do when we get back.
Any thoughts, pointers, websites or tips would be very much appreciated.
emharrison 27-03-2008, 10:52 any part of italy is lovely, you could try the lakes though, try a google search on getting married in italy..
Croatia is also very very pretty and has very italian like themes due to its close proximity but without the massive price tag. northern croatia more than southern and you will find roman ruins and lovely towns and beautiful scenery.
you could even try greek islands in october when the weather drops.
or.... how about the british coast??, or the isle of scilly, cornwall etc. you would also be amazed by scotland, you cant get much more breathtaking than the scenery there, i know it doesnt sound as amazing as an ice hotel, but some of the castles overlooking one of the lochs are fantastic. I am getting married in scotland in june, in a marquee next to a beach, and was at first dubious but the sunsets are amazing... www.hawthorn-house.co.uk, this is where my parents are, hence the wedding there but the links might help.
The Canadian Rockies in winter- very very beautiful. That's what we did, although you may not want to have thermals on for your honeymoon.
Yeah, just found a site about Italy, the lakes look amazing.
Not thought of Scotland, but now you mention it i'll take a look, thanks for the links. She is originally from that side of the border and still has some family up there so it might be just what we are after. i can't believe i never thought of it.
anyway, i hope she doesn't come on here..... cos i've not even asked her the big question yet!! LOL.
Classic Rock 27-03-2008, 11:16 It depends on when you go. I'm getting married at the end of May this year in Hawaii. The temperature is going to be about 22 degrees, which is just pleasant, T shirt weather. If there's a beach you do fancy getting married on, then pick the time of year when it's going to be less hot and sweaty and go for it!
uniquelydun 11-05-2008, 20:17 are you or do you know of anyone getting married at the nissi beach hotel in cyprus? or have you been married there before and could advise on there service.
princessL 11-05-2008, 20:20 im not getting married there but oh my god - i LOVE nissi beach and if had decided to get married I would def got married at Adams Beach Hotel. The hotel is beautiful and the bestest hotel Ive stayed at at nissi.
uniquelydun 13-05-2008, 12:46 i actually mean the nissi neach hotel in nissi bay. i am getting married there in a few weeks and have been informed that there will be another wedding there from sheffield.
uniquelydun 02-07-2008, 09:48 we came back from our holiday to cyprus 3 weeks ago. we took 90 people with us and had the best time ever. the weather was great and the wedding day was amazing. we traveled over to cyprus the year b4 to meet co-ordinators and decide exactly where we wanted our day. we planned it all ourselves and managed to pull off 8 bridesmaids 5 pageboys and 6 ushers in with our party and to see them all dresses and there on the day was an achievement in itself. i just want to do it again.
here are a few pics. anyone wanting any advice regarding wedding planning abroad or tips on what we did please feel free to get in touch.
hope all of your days are as perfect as ours was.

We are wanting to marry in Italy, I have only just started looking and there seems to be a million sites and companies, it's a little overwhelming! Does anyone know anybody who has got married in Italy and can recommend a company or location. I would much rather go on personal recommendation if possible. Also does anyone know how early we need to book. It has to be an August wedding so I am thinking 2010 (enough time for the poor old guests to save up!) Any help really appreciated!

Hi me and my partner want to go to Las Vegas to get married, trouble is selecting the venue? We fancied the forever grand chapel at the MGM Grand or the little church of the west.
Does anyone have any experience of these 2 or any others? x :help:
Hi - i want to do the same but in 2010 - were how you found vegas themed saved the date cards, i have looking everywhere, thanks Emma :)
DiamondGirl 03-10-2008, 23:59 We had a lovely wedding in jamaica. Got married in a riu hotel with first choice and it was amazing, no stress at all.

Thanks peeps
sam birdsey 16-05-2009, 09:20 Hiah. My partner and I have decided that we too are going to get married in las vegas in the little white chapel. I have a few questions. like.
Do I have to apply for a marriage lisence in this county - you know because of bands of marriage and giving people the opportunity to dispute?
Is there a problem at the air port because my name will have changed after getting married and mypassport will hold a different name?
If you get married out there, are you officially seen as married over here?
seems like you really loved your wedding, andmust admit it seemed very reasonable, howmany photos did you get?
Im thinking of holding a very small blessing cermony with the pictures displayed via projector.
any help you've got for me would be great. (he hasnt even proposed yet! lol) The soon to be Mrs Ace! (cool surname for a vegas wedding dont you thinklol)
Sam Birdsey. (*sam.birdseyathotmail.co.uk*)
JarvisCocker 18-05-2009, 09:15 Hi Sam,
I got married a couple of years ago in Vegas.
In answer to your questions, not you don't have to apply for a marriage licence over here.
There won't be a problem at the airport as you will have your certificate with you for when you fly back into the UK. Any problems and you can just show them that. You don't get your actual marriage certificate at the time, this gets posted to you, think ours came a couple of weeks after we got back.
Yes the marriage is legal in this country.
We loved our wedding, it was great fun and we have fantastic memories. None of the hassle and stress of organising a wedding over here.
Good luck
PS Yes great surname for a Vegas wedding!
Axl Rose 19-05-2009, 10:44 Hi Sam
We got married in Vegas at The Luxor chapel which was a fantastic venue, all booked through Virgin they were excellent told us everything we needed to do which was very little.
I must agree with Jarvis very easy and stress free way to get married, the only thing i will say is make sure you book enough time there we only had 4 days and then went on to LA, and the first day we were exhausted, 2 day planning with wedding co-ordinator, 3 day wedding, 4 going through the photos for wedding album (about 25 photos, included with the package we booked) and finally seeing the sights and 5 day left for LA. Hence we are booking to go back next year to see it fully.
You shouldn't have a problem at the airport unless you book it in your married name and your passport is your maiden name. Just make sure your passport is the same as your booking. Don't buy a new passport before going if you dont have to, or you'll be travelling in your maiden name for 10 years till it expires, or you have to pay full price again to get it changed.
As for the photos, we had so many included in the package, when we viewed them they had taken about 80 photos, we could add extras or but the complete batch for a discounted price. Which we didn't do as what we had was enough and we had travelled out there with a professional photographer as a guest. But they did email me a link to their web site when i got home and i could access all the photos anyway, and i could download them for the projector at the reception.
Hope this helps and good luck with the Vegas Wedding!!!
were getting married abroad in may
and alot of family and friends cant make it! :(
and we plan on having a party befor we go away
is it cheeky to expect pressies off of people who wont be attending?
as we would like a bit of extra cash for the holiday
but would it be rude to ask seeing as they wont be attending??
help please!!
With the current credit crunch etc, just accept what they give (can afford) to get you.
I think no one should be expected to get you a prezzie, invite people you want there, if they decide to buy you a prezzie then that is up to them, unless you wanna say come to our party as long as you spend at least £50 plus.
Classic Rock 15-10-2009, 11:33 When we got married abroad, the select few who joined us were told that we were grateful to have their presence and please don't buy us anything.
We got a few gifts from people in the workplace, small token gifts and some cards.
We didn't bother with a party when we got home, which may have prompted more gifts, but we honestly didn't want or expect anything.
I would have a party anyway- chances are people wil bring you cards with money inside anyway- thats what i would do anyway if i was invited to such party for some friends getting maried abroad.
The protocol as a wedding guest is to spend at least as much on a present as the bride and groom are spending on inviting you to the party. For daytime guests at a sit down meal that's probably around the £50 per head mark, and evening guests.....? Well if you're not putting money behind the bar, and you got the hall hire for free... ;)
Florida sounds good, not bad price wise either according to others, will have to look into it.

claire1976 09-12-2009, 21:30 We got married in Mauritius in 2004, it cost around £4500 for 2 weeks all inclusive including the wedding package. We got the ceremony, flowers, hair and make up, music, cake, champagne and photos included. I think that's great value when you consider the costs in the UK. My parents came with us and then we had a big party back home costing around £700, I wore my dress again and people could look at the photo's.
I would thoroughly recommend it. It's romantic and memorable yet no hassle and much more relaxing. We plan to revisit the same place on our 10 year anniversary.
sheffield_uk 10-12-2009, 00:22 We are getting married in Las Vegas in september 2010....just the 2 of us going.
about £600 each for 2 weeks holiday including hotel...+ about £200 for the wedding + spending money..
better than doing it here with the whole family thing!!!
KamalJoe 10-12-2009, 05:47 I think going for a SURVIVOR series style wedding arena would be different. What would you name your tribe?
Don't feel offended, my point is try your best to save as much money as possible. Rough times are ahead has currencies would be taking turn. If you really want to then go for something cost saver.

AnnieatTTL 15-02-2010, 15:22 Hi all Brides and Grooms to be!
Just a little heads up for anyone thinking of getting married abroad. You're likely to need full copies of documents such as your birth certificates etc and if you're getting married in a country that doesn't speak English you will probably need certified translations of all the necessary documentation.
Often, documents need to be legalised (apostilled) by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office before they are translated which takes extra time and money. The documents and their apostilles are then translated. Certifed translations should be carried out by members of the IOL, ITI or ATC.
Also when you get back to the UK, you will need your marriage certificate translating into English, for example, to change the name on your passport.
Certificate Translator has information on what documentation you require and links to the necessary offices and embassies.
Happy nuptials to you all!
Annie

Preacher Man 30-03-2010, 16:46 Im thinking of just eloping to get married in the summer but could anybody recommend somewhere nice?
I cant afford a fortune (hence eloping), but would like a quiet beach somewhere, and do you need to apply for a marriage license in advance? is it recognised in this country?
anyone who has done this and can offer advice would be much loved!
the_rudeboy 30-03-2010, 17:04 I got married in Zante in 2007 and have to say it was excellent. The ceremony took place on a lovely grassed area next to a quiet beach and the reception was in a taverna overlooking the grassed area and beach. We had a local wedding organiser sort everything out for us. You can do it yourself but its a bit of a pain and doesn't save a great deal. She arranged all the legal stuff, the ceremony, the reception, greek band, photographer, horse and carriage, taxis etc.
The only thing we had to do was go to the Register Office to arrange for the marriage banns to be displayed.
Once saw a lovely wedding taking place in Lindos in Rhodes & they were a British couple getting married. Always thought it looked a lovely setting for such a special occasion.
(Hope you find somewhere nice)
After a quick search just seen this...there are others of course.

Agent Orange 30-03-2010, 17:24 I have never married abroad, but whilst I was away in Antigua my then girlfriend and I saw a wedding take place on a wooden jetty. It was a real great setting, the place was decked out with local flowers, the crystal blue sea and a local steel drum band played some tunes for them.
Not sure of the legalities of it all, but most tour operators have wedding organisers that take care of all the legal stuff and arrangements.

Pink2Bubble 30-03-2010, 17:35 Antigua! Highly recommended as said above. We were married on resort, they had 2 places to chose from with photos afterwards on the beach and brass band playing all way through. Went to Jolly Beach Resort, worth checking up on it!

Lovely place, Jolly Beach Resort. I think if I am to ever get married then it would either have to Antigua or another island in the caribbean. Absolutely beautiful!
A friend of mine got married in NZ. She arranged most of it online with a marraige planner out there. The photographer put the photos online so we could see the pics whilst the newly weds were still on their honeymoon.

Classic Rock 30-03-2010, 22:56 Have a look over in the wedding group. There's a whole thread dedicated to getting married abroad there.
Pink2Bubble 31-03-2010, 14:58 I dont know if i fancy a resort, i dont mind spending a month somewhere and finding a little village. Really unsure of all the legalaties though??
Getting married abroad, you have to spend X amount of time in the country first. For Antigua it was 5 days, but in those 5 days you go to the main "council" office to get the paperwork done which then allows you to be married in that country. Some will vary on process and days to wait but you will more than likely have to spend at least 3 days in the country prior to the wedding day and apply for a marriage license.
Marriages in certain countries, I believe, are not recognised in the UK however most are. This is something you will need to check. To have it recognised in the UK you will take the marriage certificate you obtain at the time to the local city/town council and they process it from there.
If you do it through resort, you get your holiday there and wedding package on top. They take care of music (you would still pick your own songs - Antigua the band played songs we picked), venue, photographs, drinks, buffet, cake, minister, evening meal etc and you have a direct contact for everything you need.
Doing it in a little village will mean you arranging all these things in which case, I would say you need to chose the country you prefer and go there first to look around and find what you like ie venue. Then...find out what you need to do and cost of it.
Basically, we got 2 weeks holiday at Jolly Beach Resort in Antigua with the wedding day planned for 5 days after we arrived. Everything was arrange while we were still in the UK. When we got there, we met the wedding coordinator who talked us through everything, showed us the 2 locations they use for weddings and what will happen. Then arrange for us to be taken to St Johns by taxi to obtain our marriage license. Back in resort, we were given a long song list. We had to pick 5 songs for the DVD we got, song for dance etc. We didnt have to worry about a thing really, it was taken care of so we could enjoy the break with the kids up until the big day.
Bit of a ramble but I think you need to decide where and how you'd like your wedding.
Preacher Man 03-04-2010, 11:29 thanks for all the advice. think for finance reasons we are going to do it in this country and just have a small ceremony but a big evening do when we come back from the honeymoon..
surfinjim 03-04-2010, 13:29 I got married in Pathos in Cyprus. Was fantastic. We wree strapped for cash at the time, so opted to get married abroad. Looked at St Lucia/Antigua, but we then wouldn't have had any friends/relatives with us.
Opting for Cyprus we ended up with 30 odd guests. Back to the hotel for champagne/photo's, and then a pool party in the afternoon at a local villa some of the relatives had rented. Did all the food ourselves and had everyone in the pool from grannies to nippers.
In the evening, all got changed again into our wedding gear and had a traditional Mezi reception in a taverna.
Brilliant day.
If you are looking for something really quiet, there is a lovely church in Afandou in Rhodes.
Best of luck
Jim

Where did you get engaged? If it was somewhere nice-ish, could you have the wedding there?
have you thought of Gretna Green. there is a hotel called the Mill Forge, with accomodation, gorgeous gardens and a chapel in the grounds. we got married there 7 years ago. weather was gorgeous and you can have reception at the hotel, cost under £1000. beautiful hotel. weddings really popular there too. they have rooms for the bride and groom and other rooms across the grounds for the wedding party you choose to take.

Honestly i dont think you can beat Barbados
HeadingNorth 11-05-2010, 21:45 You have enough time to make ample plans. The first priority is finding a country that fits your requirements.
Some countries won't allow you to marry unless you spend a minimum amount of time in them first; that could vary from one night to over a month. Others are happy for you to turn up, buy a licence, get married and leave again, all within half an hour.
Florida and Nevada, I know for sure, allow foreigners (ie. non-USA) to obtain a marriage licence and get married without any residency requirements. Florida also has plenty of beaches, so it might suit you perfectly. On the other hand, it tends not to be cheap!
What you really need to do is to explore a site such as http://www.firstchoice.co.uk/sun-holidays/adult-holidays/weddings/ (any large travel operator will have a similar website) or and think about which country you'd like to visit. You could spend at least the next nine months just picking out ideas before deciding to commit to anything.
Hi im getting married in cuba in august, 19 of us are going. We are going in the 6 weeks hols cos my chief bridesmaid is a teacher and cant get any other time off and even so its only costing less than 1000 each, thats all inclusive, 4* and the wedding is done for free, we just pay for the licences.
We get a wedding coordinator, flowers, venue (beach, gardens etc) minister, champagne for the toast meals included cos everyones all inclusive anyway but we can book al a carte for that night. photos etc are payable locally but again only approx 40 quid? We even get extra luggage allowance for dresses and outfits etc,
We booked through travel agent coop at chapeltown, they are very helpful x

lily1979 24-09-2010, 15:13 Hi there
Getting married in vegas next year, just about to book in next couple of months, have loads of questions and wondered if anyone is getting married in vegas or has already been married there?
Thank you x
weddingdaze 27-09-2010, 10:28 Hi lily1979, we got married in Las Vegas in July this year if you have any specific questions then drop me a line emma@theweddingdaze.com :-)
bigdave6295 12-10-2010, 15:16 If you fancy Italy as a destination I would recommend checking out http://www.tuscany-villa-holiday.co.uk/ and click on the wedding section. The villa is ideal as a base for family and friends and there is a hotel a short walk down the road and a campsite with some caravans round the corner if you have a lot of guests. I attended a wedding here a few years ago and it was an amazing experience. Let me know if you want anymore info or as it says contact the owners.
Hope this is of help to someone.
berlingo 15-01-2011, 15:31 Has anyone done it or already planning a wedding in Cyprus? Thinking of it for next christmas time in Paphos... Any tips anyone?
Hi
Has anyone on here got married in Portugal and can offer any advice? We want a beach wedding in the algarve and i've read that you need min 30 day residency and that some ceremonies aren't recognised in the uk, i've got contradicting info and it'd be nice to speak to someone who'd actually done it!
ta very much
Miss_S_83 20-02-2011, 10:55 This may sound daft but....
How much do you think we would be talking to get married abroad, just me, the OH and our 2 kids?
I was seriously thinking of doing it and having a party when I am back........
HELP!
