i know his wife and she did sell his car, although they are still together, he's done loads of stupid stunts to get in the papers!

It's very similar to an 1970's urban myth where a guy sees a Rolls Royce with a "FOR SALE: £10" on it. When he asks the woman seller why it's so cheap, the story is that the owner has left his wife and he says to her "sell the car and let me have the money you get for it".
