I dont mind the odd chickflick, 4 weddings and a funeral is a cracker, notting hill would be dreadful if not for rhys ifans, but love actually was a stormer. :D
and anything with alan rickman or colin firth, well, there you go, seal of quality right there :)

When Harry met Sally - classic one liners in there and the most romantic last (ish) scene ever

Harry Burns: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

Sally Albright: You see? That is just like you, Harry. You say things like that, and you make it impossible for me to hate you.

Aw! :D

It would have to be Ghost - best use of pottery in a film ever :D . Actually, it could be the only use of pottery in a film, but that's beside the point.

Following close behind would be While You Were Sleeping, When Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman and Sleepless in Seattle (though Tom Hanks puts me off that a bit, as does the obnoxious kid). Oh, and Jerry Maguire, of course, especially the 'you had me at hello' bit  .

Jennifer Ehle was the definitive Lizzie. The recent film was just superfluous. How could they have hoped to top the BBC serial, and Colin Firth as Mr Darcy? Impossible!

Yes, I know Jane Austen didn't include in the novel the scene where Darcy indulges in a spot of swimming, but some manipulations of the source material can only be an improvement :D .

Yes, I was extremely disappointed in the film, although the critics liked it. Pride & Prejudice without Colin Firth ? :gag:

The best chick flicks are the ones that send you through a variety of emotions. Where you connect with the characters so much that you laugh with them and cry with them. Ultimately they make you feel good after watching them. All of the films previously mentioned on this thread are classic chick flicks and all deserve to be mentioned.

Notting Hill
Love Actually
Dirty Dancing
Ghost
Pretty Woman
When Harry met Sally

Then there are the chick flicks that don't make you laugh but have you crying like a baby

City of Angels
Sixth Sense
The Green Mile

When picking a favorite it all comes down to personal taste and has alot to do with what mood you're in when asked.

Today if asked my response would be Love Actually!!! :P

Truly Madly Deeply, or is that more of a weepy kinda thing? with Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson...
The recent film version of Pride & Prejudice, as Hecate says, totally unnecessary remake and Keira Knightley was a bit too modern and aggressive, thought she was going to karate kick Mr Darcy (interesting idea for a film!) perhaps she got her roles mixed up...
:)

Oh thank God for that! I thought I was the only person in the western world that didn't think "Truly, madly, deeply" was a brilliant film. I found it really dreadful - and it was SUCH a great idea, it SHOULD have been a wonderful film. But it was done all wrong and the idea was completely wasted/destroyed. Almost a crime.

As for best chickflick - I nominate "Thelma and Louise". That's MY kind of chickflick. Absolutely cannot bear or stand anything that has had Richard Curtis anywhere near it. :D

Sorry girls but I really dont get chickflicks at all all my mates seem to like them but I just cant they are so predictable and boring.

If I ever had to watch that stupid Pretty Woman again I think I would kill myself.

Give me The Terminator, Aliens etc any day.

In general, I very much agree with you, I'd much rather watch a suspenseful adventure film than a chickflick, although I did think "Pretty Woman" was actually a good, enjoyable film :)

Something's Gotta Give - (This is sooo sad actually.)
Notebook
As good as it gets. - ("You make me want to be a better man." I think that is a very romantic line.)
