the 2nd one is for MP3 only. The Gen-1/2 had to be changed due to some US law rule thingy so people can change the batteries at home, so the gen-3 was made.

I don't think Video or Photo's were on ipods untill Gen 5

If it's 4GB it's going to be an iPod nano or an iPod mini. I belive the second generation of both is/was available as a 4GB model. If it's got a colour screen, it's a nano which can store pictures but not videos. The mini can store neither.

There are though identical replica's comming from S.E.Asia with 4-8GB and are NANO's all but name. They do have few tricks that an Apple don't, thats Video playback , AM/FM radio , Voice Recorder , E-Book & dawn sight cheaper.

I have 2 Ipods (genuine) but thinking about getting a Repro 8gb from Hong Kong

If its 4GB it wont be a second gen, as they started at 5GB.. and have a touch wheel with 4 buttons round it and a mono (black and white) screen...

the first gen were the same, started at 2GB, but had a 'click' wheel and 4 buttons round it.

yes you can use them to store pics and stuff, as normal HDD's, however they cant/wont play them 'on screen' they arent capable.
