does anyone know of any small venues..that are cinemas that show the latest films etc..somewhere like uci used to be like at crystal peaks?

Whereas close by the Odeon arundel gate, which has about 12 screens shows all the latest films. It is right opposite the crucible and lyceum theatres

Don't know if still open but Penistone has a small cinema that still has an intermission complete with ushers selling ice cream and choc ices etc.

I lived in Penistone until recently. The cinema is a really nice place. Curtains that go up at the start of the film, a bar where you can buy your beer and watch the film with it, intermission and ice cream ladies etc. Just like the cinemas when you were a kid. Recently however the cinema has been going down hill. There's been a lot of hassle with the council barring members of the Organ Trust and generally running down the place by not showing good films etc. There's been lots of bad press in the Barnsley Chronicle etc. I was treasurer of the Film Society there. We had been organising films once a month for over 3 years but last year the council put the rates up and made it uneconomical to continue. We had to disband and no longer meet up. Shame, but there you go.
I live in Sheffield now so the Showroom is the cinema of choice.

the odeon on arundal gate still has curtains at the side and its about 30 seats, the screen is about 4 times the size of the modern tv and it still has a little interval after the adverts, great!!, does anyone remeber when there was half smoking and half non smoking in the big odeon where kingdom is now?? i can still just about remember the one that was next door too, well the entrance not what picture i saw!!

isn't there a cinema in the technology park?
