Why did she do that?

Did the royal convoy get lost on the way to somewhere else? OR did she fancy a pork sarnie for lunch?

She also visited Hillsborough Park in 1977 for her Silver Jubilee. We were taken with school to wave flags at her as she was driven slowly around the running track. She was in and out in about 10 minutes I think.

The people who grinned themselves to death
Smiled so much they failed to take a breath
Even when their kids we're starving
They all thought the Queen was Charming.

It's a shame someone couldn't impale the Queens head on a spike on that day. Not that i'm anti-monarchy or owt

I can rememebr the Queen coming to Sheffield around 1990 as I was trying to hitchhike off Parkway off to see a band somewhere and got moved (sadly back into town not up to the M1) by the Police trying to "tidy" things up..

It's a waste of time, if you know what I mean,
try shaking your box in front of the Queen
'Cos her purse is fat and burstin' at the seams
it's a waste of time, if you know what that means

Not that I agree with the senitment, but I love a bit of Housemartins. I put "Sitting on a Fence" on myspace the other day - bit of nostalgia...

Oh, and I remember her passing on Penistone Road in 1977.

I went as a kid with school and we had to do some crazy country dancing routine which of course she never saw. My dad went mad that the school had taken me as he was a fervent anti-monarchist.

Went with school also, as a girl in my class's dad had designed the cop and our teachers old fella was an director @ wednesday. This got us front row seats, she was in the directors box if I remember rightly? After queen had gone they passed around a tartan car rug that she had to keep her warm for us all to get a grab at. ahh bless.

I saw her once in town not that long ago. I wasn't expecting it. I was just walking up from work into town and suddenly there she was having a walk about on Surrey Street! I think it had something to do with the Millenium Gallery. It was quite a shock and she is really short!

I can beat all you "youngsters".

She came when I was about 12 or 13, around 1955. All the schools in the Hillsborough area sent some of their kids to march around the pitch and eventually to form a massive Union Jack flag. Can't remember why she came.
