Wish Liverpool luck as I'd like to see them win it yet again. But I fear the Milan Machine will triumph.

Got it wrong last time - probably the most amazing game I've seen in about 55 years of watching - but I'm sticking with Milan as there is so much to admire, except for that pitbull, Gattuso! Will be pleased to be wrong again.

Heart says Liverpool win, Head says it's gonna be very close lol
Milan were immense against United, but i feel United played the wrong system.
It's going to take a massive effort to triumph this time around, but if any team are cabable of doing it in Europe, Liverpool are.
I thought we wouldn't get past Barcelona!
I thought we wouldn't get past Chelsea!
Who knows. As i see it, it's anybody's game. I honestly can not predict an out and out winner so, i reckon penalties will again seperate the two!

Here's the team i think can beat Milan. Very strong centrally to null the threat of Kaka. The Gerrard and Gattusso battle which in my eye's is a Gerrard triumph.
Defence is acustomed to one another and should be solid as usual.
Two quick wingers in Pennant and the returning Kewell (not match fit but could get 60 mins) crossing the ball over for the dangerous Crouch (who Milan have stated is a major worry for them)
This will give us options and also a chance to change things late on if things are not going to plan.

-----------------Reina-----------------
---Finnan----Carra----Agger----Riise---
------------Alonso----Mascherano-----------
---Pennant------Gerrard-------Kewell---
-----------------Crouch----------------

On the bench would be:

Dudeck
Hyppia
Gonzalez
Sissoko
Kuyt
Fowler
Arbeloa

Anyone agree?
How would you change it?

Here we go again, the sorry old sob story!!
I'll say again....... Maybe if Sheff U had got a result against a very poor Wigan side when playing at home and only needing a draw, you would have stayed up. If you read the rest of the thread you will see that the Liverpool team v Fulham that you are refering too wasn't that bad. Full of internationals and only 1 player making his debut. The rest of the team were players that have consistently played all season!!
For god's sake, stop your moaning. Your down because you were not good enough, not because of any other thing ok.

no I dont think it was to get us relegated but he said he wanted to rest players for the champions league. If you wanted to do that then then surely you would rest the players for the closest game to that match to give them maximum recovery time or is it me just being daft.

No because if Rafa had of played a full strength team against Fulham and then rested all the key players v Charlton, the gap then would have been from the Fulham game to the final without a game for the key players which is far too long if they are to be focused and match fit!

You do talk a lot of boxxxcks dont you. They are supposed to be proffesional footballers, though the only person in your team worth his money is gerrard. I t does not take much workin out if they got injured v fulham its 3 weeks to get fit where as if they got injured v charlton its only 2 weeks. surely even a thick liverpudlian can work that out.

Three weeks without a game would make the players not sharp or have peak match fitness.

but its like i said why not play the full team when he could rather than rest players, he still has more two weeks before the champions league game to get them fit. the team he played against Fulham I would suggest any team in the league would have beaten Liverpool that day. I dont think Benitez respects the premier league, now he knows for certain the champions league place for next season was secure. i could understand the team put out if it was a team with nothing to play for but fulham were in the deep poo like ourselves and were given 3 points by his team selection. I know you said there were only one making his debut, but if you were honest would you rather face Kuyt up front of Bellamy, i know which my choice would be

LFCMadPaul
20-05-2007, 21:29
but its like i said why not play the full team when he could rather than rest players
Because Liverpool had just played a very hard fought, tiring, Champions League Semi Final against Chelsea and wanted to give key players a break to avoid any injuries in a match that was meaningless to Liverpool. How many more times.

the team he played against Fulham I would suggest any team in the league would have beaten Liverpool that day.
Liverpool played poorly, yet still had chances to win. Again missed chances cost us, story of our season really. The Liverpool team was full of international players who had been playing regularly all season, again how many more times!!

I dont think Benitez respects the premier league, now he knows for certain the champions league place for next season was secure..
Of course he respect's the league but as you say the game was meaningless to him. CL already sewn up, a semi final against Chelsea just been played and a CL final around the corner... Why would he risk his key players against errr, Fulham?

i could understand the team put out if it was a team with nothing to play for but fulham were in the deep poo like ourselves and were given 3 points by his team selection.
Not his problem. Having just played a CL Semi Final and the game been meaningless to Liverpool, Rafa decided he would rest key players and also have a look at some squad players to decide on new contract's etc. Fulham fighting relegation does not warrant Rafa Benitez playing a full strength squad in a meaningless game with a risk of losing crucial players for a CL final that is just around the corner. Surely you are not too bitter to see his logic?

I know you said there were only one making his debut, but if you were honest would you rather face Kuyt up front of Bellamy, i know which my choice would be
The guy who made his debut (Insua) is a left back!
Bellamy has played against most of the top teams Liverpool have faced this season (scoring away at Barca being one). Bellamy playing instead of Kuyt is hardly anything to be whinging about is it?

LFCMadPaul
20-05-2007, 21:35
Also Daftlad, didn't Man U rest Ronaldo, Scholes and Giggs for their game against West Ham for the very same reasons as Rafa rested his key players?
I don't see you moaning about that and rightly so, Fergie was thinking about the next game and, although Man U still lost the FA Cup final, he was well within his right's to do so!!

Daftlad, personally I don't like the idea of resting players and when I was following Liverpool all over Europe the 1st team was never more than a squad of 14 maybe 15 at a push. However, the season is over 38 games not just at the final few weeks. Maybe if Unsworth had not have missed that penalty when playing for you instead of scoring for Wigan, maybe if you had another decent striker instead of just Hulse before he got injured. Also Warnock rested players for certain games.

PS : Enjoy Bryan Robson:hihi:

Mate, it's not about how Milan played against Man U (who didn't have the fight and grit in midfield). It's about passion, refereeing decisions, luck, the crowd, team work etc.
It's no fluke that Liverpool time and time again turn over the so called big teams in Europe!
Milan before the Man U game were not that good! Before the tournament started they were given no chance (as were Liverpool). The best two teams from this compitition are in the final. Liverpool won't lay down, we all know that. Can they win it? We will see tommorow!

Whoa whoa whoa there fella!
I thought you would beat chelsea, you played an out of form barca and got through fair enough, juve are NOT the team they once were and you fluked it on pens against Milan last time after an inspired fightback from Stevie G.

We lost to Milan because our regular defence was out - we didnt have the strength at the back and it showed, I really dont think we would have been steamrollered if the first XI was out I really dont.

You keep mentioning big teams, but all the while, you dont really take into account their squad form/health do you really - juve for example are not even in their respective top league anymore and were without a lot of their key players who left.

Milan defensively, have been excellent this season in the CL - and Kaka has been on somewhat of a roll so I can see so how you stop that lad tonight will decide the match.

The comment 'the best two teams from the competition are in the final' I find absolutely incredible... considering the whipping we gave Roma - which to my knowledge... the best performance from an english team EVER in the CL - especially to hammer a team of Roma's stature like that.. so please, dont come out with that - because its just not true

God help us all if Liverpool win though - I might just book a holiday tomorrow :D

I am torn here.

I wont be happy whoever wins. I can't be done with hearing Liverpool 'fans' crowing, but at the same time I can’t be done with seeing Gattuso getting his hands on the trophy. He is surely the most hateable man in Italy, which by definition, is no mean feat.

A word of warning. Don’t watch the game in the Walkabout unless you want to see loads of southerners cheering 'their' team on, under some tenuous link that their Dad used to support them etc etc.

Rest assured my link isn't tenuous though, and I don't do crowing.

It is the same sadly. And its bloody awful.

I am informed by our mutual friend Sarah though that your a proper scouser! Ha ha!

I couldn't give a toss about this years final. Have contempt for each team equally.

Arsenal will win it next year with Terry and VP fit again.

Then Wenger will quit, causing a mass exodus, and Arsenal will be rubbish, allowing me to actually buy a ticket.

It's all part of Gods great plan...

Rubbish mate - you're one nil down, because Jamie Carragher cocked up and gave the ball back to Kaka first off - who then got fouled and Pirlo took a blinding free kick - remember, I am sat watching the game as well mate :D

I think it is that - teams try harder against us it seems, I agree with what fergie said a while ago now - they seem to try against us - Milan for me, look nowhere near as good as they were in the 2nd leg against us.

But they have won NOTHING this season??

We were missing 3 first choice defenders against Milan, plus our main striker.

Same reason you won the League!!
Terry injured
Both Chelsea Goalkeepers injured.
Charvalho injured
Shevi - hated by manager
Ballack - as above.
Robben - out all season.
Essien (one of best midfielders around) playing in defence
Cole - injured all season.

Shall i go on??

Oh give over.. chelsea supposedly have a bigger squad dont they?

* Terry was injured a couple of times and still came back
* Not our problem that chelsea dont seem to buy keepers
* Carvalho is replaceable in his position
* Shevchenko - waste of a good player and cash this season- will be going back to Milan!
* Ballack - as predicted by moi .. another flop - ruined by chelsea
* Robben - has been going downhill for a while, and I found people's comments that he was better than ronaldo laughable for a good few years now
* Essien - is being played out of position, blame Mourinho the mong for that one :D

Please continue... but arent we talking about 'pool's match tonight on this thread- maybe we should go back to the OP!

Chelsea's botchup year after year in the CL

A botch up would be getting knocked out in quarter-finals in 02/03, in the first knockout round 03/04, the first knockout round again in 04/05, and then bottem of their group 05/06. Your recent record in Europe is third rate, so I would keep quiet about it if I was you or you might end up looking a bit foolish.

Checked- from 1999 - here it is:

MU:
4 Prems
2 FA Cups
1 League Cup
1 Community Shield
1 CL
1 Intercontinental/World Club Championships

'Pool:
Prems - 0
Fa Cup - 2
League Cup - 2
Community Shield - 2
CL - 1
UEFA Cup - 1
Super Cups - 2

10 Again!

When all is said and done, Milan were lucky to win tonight, the first goal was lucky to say the least, and Milan looked massively disjointed in the first half.
Whatever Ancelotti said at half time made a big difference to Milan and Liverpool just wasn't the same team in the second half.
Liverpool had a great chance to win the European cup tonight and fell quite short in the end, fair does to Milan though it was a proffesional performance.
If it had gone to extra time i think Liverpool may well have come up trumps.
Look on the brightside Liverpool supporters, you have a lot more promise than Milan, Maldini, Seedorf,Inzhagi,Nesta won't be easy to replace in one fail swoop.

So Paul, What happened to Fowler on the bench? No respect that man Benitez. That was the last time Robbie could have played in a CL final and it was taken away from him. Liverpool could probably have done with his grafting tonight, the "oldies" of Milan did alright though. What a loyal player Maldini is, 22 years at the same club and 38 yo.

Incredible. I'm a Bluenose and decided to look at this thread this morning to have a little chuckle at the expense of my red neighbours. I've actually come away with an intense dislike of a particular Manchester Utd fan. Well done Angelus, you've just done a pretty good job of confirming every horrible stereotype which other football fans have of MU fans; ie arrogant, blinkered and mis-informed. Have you actually even ever been to a football match? Because you strike me as the ultimate armchair supporter, and I mean that in a bad way!

Anyhoo - comiserations to my Liverpool brethern (god, that sticks in the throat!). My Dad and our kid are rednoses, so I know how they'll be feeling this morning.

The best team won, it's that simple.

We can have no complaints as the team did their level best, but it wasn't enough. I think we've known all year that we need a top striker, last night the world found that out too.

Congratulations Milan, see you in Moscow :)

As a side note, I'm very worried by the news that several hundred fans weren't allowed into the stadium last night despite holding tickets for the game. The Police closed the stadium 20 mins before kick off because it was 'full'.

Now, it would be bad enough if you'd gone with the club for £700 all in, but Sky mentioned last night that one pair of tickets swapped hands for €9,000....just how annoyed would you be?!

I just hope everyone I know got into the ground.

As a spectacle, the final was disappointing. Liverpool looked the more likely to score in the first half but never looked like recovering after Inzaghi's fluke goal. His second was great, though Liverpool didn't seem to be up for it.

Next season should be interesting.

Man Utd will no doubt be strengthened by the arrival of Hargreaves, (surely Ferguson can't whinge about clubs sniffing around Ronaldo after this) and I can imagine a new striker is on the horizon to replace Saha.

Chelsea are likely going to change a few things, I think another defender and possibly striker. Perhaps Schevchenko and Ballack will come good. It's good to see them sign Sidwell.

Liverpool are going to have money to spend and Benitez has already said the board are backing him on some big signings. Looks like Zenden, Fowler, Gonzales and Dudek are on their way out so he'll need replacements.

And to add further spice to the mix, Newcastle are in the process of being taken over by a billionaire, with Man City and Arsenal having major investment / takeovers too.

I agree with your point about Liverpool - and I think Hargreaves will aid in someway, but I still think one of our mistakes this season was selling Ruud - he added a lot of goals per season, and was not as injury prone as Saha who again, got injured when we needed him the most which was not a surprise for me to be honest.

And now.. we are looking at Huntelaar from Ajax who to be honest, is a Ruud clone.

Agreed with chelsea- although if mrs shevchenko has anything to do with it ie: zidane's wife as well - he will be returning to Milan before the new season.. and sidwell... another talent to be wasted sitting on the bench.

As I said a thousand times, Ruud didnt suit the way we wanted to play.

We are far pacier without him, although we should have bought someone to replace him. The mistake we made is not doing that. United with Saha when fit were much more of a threat than with Ruud. The only trouble is our back up for Saha was Smith, who is utter garbage.

In addition, Ruud hated Ronaldo. I think it is no coincidence that Ronaldo has expressed himself much more since Ruud left.
Ruud will always score goals, but suits some teams more than others.

Huntelaar is a ruud clone for the simple reason I've watched him a good few times this season, he is as near to Ruud as you can get at the moment- a lot quicker version might I add!

The problem is - fitting him into the squad now, as you said, we are a faster attacking side without ruud agreed - but to have Saha as one of our main strikers, I find totally laughable - the bloke is an injury crisis waiting to happen, and as usual- it happens when we need him the most.

We need to get rid of him and get someone better in.

Agreed- I think there was something going off between ruud and ronaldo as well.

Sorry to throw this in, but there's a great statistic about a football club on this old Guinness video I posted on another thread.

Can you really see Rafa spending over £15 on Torres?

It could cost I reckon, £15-20m to prize him away from the club - not to mention, he's going to want better wages than Stevie G as well - which wont go down well.

Tell you who I did like yesterday from 'pool - Daniel Agger.. the more I see him play, I think he is getting better and better... good player that lad!

Yes, I can see him paying the full £27M that he would cost.

He wont want more than Stevie G, nor will he get it.

Dan Agger is a decent prospect, needs to come on a bit more though, hence the links to Millito.

I take it - your on about the 97% of man utd fans that have not been to old trafford then

Again, as I've said many many times before - we are a global club with global support, you cant really expect every chinese, norweigan, US, or more worldwide fan to come over and visit OT can you really - it just wouldnt happen.

So while I agree with the 97% - you've got to take under consideration, WHY they wouldnt be able to visit OT :D

I cant see him getting £27m in the first place fella :D

He will want more than stevie G - because he is the 'idol' at Athletico Madrid and will want the most cash at liverpool for switching over - I reckon, £80k a week MINIMUM, but thats my first guess.

Dan Agger - keep that bloke!

As I've said, £40M+

And Gerrard is on £120,000 - so there goes your theory!!

We will, don't worry.

Point taken, though I'd hazard a guess that the vast majority of Man Utd fans in England have never been to Old Trafford, or any Man Utd game full stop.

Torres will want to be the best paid - trust me on this, if Stevie G is on 120k a week, he will want to be higher than that.

But we shall see - If I am wrong and you sign the bloke, I will take my hat off to you :D

Pennant & the Mascarino were Liverpools best players they played well.Finnan is a joke how he can even play in the PL is beyond me.He is always out of position.Benitez said he could not be bothered with our domestic cups such as our famous FA Cup & he got what he is deserved a season with nothing.

Thats exactly what i meant!!!
He isn't a Ruud clone because he is much quicker!

As such he can play on the shoulder of the last defender high up the pitch and turn em, something Ruud could never do.
And KVH isnt exactly new to the scene, I had a good chat with a Dutchman about him last summer on the Ferry on to the way to Germany for the World Cup.
He was surprised he hadnt been selected by Van Basten.

I'd really rather not trust you, conisdering you're making it up as you go along. He wil not demand to be the sole highest paid player at the club, Benitez doesn't sign prima Donnas.

He didn't say that, he said he'd come to Liverpool to win bigger trophies than the league cup.

And as for the comment about Finnan, what planet are you on? He's one of the best right backs around.

Get back into your small team, small town box and concentrate on the championship instead of worrying about my team so much.

I'm sorry Rafa upset you by saying he's more interested in winning big trophies, but for gods sake, get over yourself - lest we forget your manager played a virtual youth side in the FA Cup this year.

Oh and you've now misquoted me as well as Rafa, I said Finnan is one of the best around. Which he is.

I didn't think Finnan played that badly. He was pushing up because Milan's left-back was having a shocker and was trying to capitalise on that.

Gary Neville does it and Ashley Cole does it all the time at left-back. You have to gamble in those positions.

Even Del Geary does it. Obviously to much lesser effect. :-)

You know, I am glad I support a crappy non league side.

Childish talk of "no, we've won the most trophies, no we are the best" etc etc, coupled with talk of respectvie players playing for weekly amounts that would keep lesser sides a float for a year makes me want to vomit.

Rant over!

So Paul, What happened to Fowler on the bench? No respect that man Benitez. That was the last time Robbie could have played in a CL final and it was taken away from him. loyal player Maldini
Benitez brought him back to his beloved club????
Without Benitez, Fowler would still be hoping and praying that someday he could pull on the red shirt of Liverpool. Benitez answered his prayers. How is that lack of respect.

I really dont care what people think of me - thats the whole point to it.

BUT.. the problem is, if you mouth of about liverpool being this and that like one certain person has on here, then its hunting season come the time they cock up - ie: last night.

Getting to the final and losing against a good team when overall being the better team is not cocking up!!
Leading in a semi final and then going to Milan and getting totally played off the park is indeed, cocking it up :D

When he wants to join a BIG club....

Interesting indeed, that you havent won anything of interest for a while now.
Angelus, we won the CL 2 years ago and played well enough to win it again last night??
FA Cup last season also and consistently qualifying for the CL season after season??
It's obvious we are only a couple of players short mate to mount a serious title challenge, so why wouldn't top players want to come to Liverpool??

Does this not bring up the third party ownership controversy that has surrounded Westsham and Tevez? The t shirt was clear, he said he belonged to Jesus even though he plays for Milan.

Is there a chance Milan will get disqualified? I doubt it very much. Once again there is one rule for the big clubs and one rule for the smaller clubs.

I think your going on the rumour arent you that 'allegedly' Torres wears a wristband with 'You'll never walk alone' on the inside... which has yet to be proven fella..
A photograph in all national newspapers is not bad 'Proof'

Your trophies are in the past - thats your lots problem, your still living on past memories and glories where as we, are successful now..
Before your title win this season, Man U have won no more than Liverpool since 2000!! In this time we have won the CL and also just played in another final where we were the better team allbiet losing.
What are you talking about "you are living on past glories"???
