I only buy from Scan or MicroDirect and I pick whichever is cheaper at the time. If they are the same price I go with Scan.

Can you just walk into Scan and buy over counter as Microdirect or do you have to order Alkataz

I always use scan or overclockers. I've always found scan to be very very good customer service wise.

A couple of years ago I bought a Seagate hard drive, when it failed I tried to do a manufacturers RMA on it. Seagate refused to replace it on the grounds they had no record of the hard drives serial number :loopy:

Anyway, to cut a long story short, Scan stepped in and replaced it for me free of charge. It was a 2 year old hard drive and not covered by any warranty from Scan.

The only downside to using Scan and Overclockers is that they use Citiyink to deliver stuff. For some reason my stuff always arrives a day late, it gets delivered to the local (Rotherham) branch very early on the morning of delivery but always seems to arrive at my house the next day, the day after it's meant to arrive. Happened multiple times :S

I usually use ebuyer.com, only bummer with them used to be that the warehouse my stuff came from (I knew a guy who worked there so knew which warehouse held which) was nearer my house than the local post depot. I was always out when they delivered. So I was paying for them to take a package further away from me and then having to go and get it myself.

Now they've moved to a custom site in east yorkshire instead of sheffield, I don't mind quite as much ;-)

The E6600 is 149inc vat though, so I may have to consider elsewhere for small purchases. However, there's a gov scheme to allow people to buy kit ex-vat through work. My company has ebuyer as a provider so next whole system I buy I'll get through them ex-vat.

I was going to say that Ebuyer has a new depot within the Yorkshire area as well if I remember correctly.

Amazon are extremely prompt with deliveries and can have some good computer kit bargains too. I've placed an order after 5.30pm and still received it by 10am the next day.

Though I did place an order with B+H Photo last Sunday [so dealt with on Monday] and got it by Wednesday. Very impressed with that esp. as I had to pay customs some dosh before it could get released and I only realised I had voicemail regarding this at 4.30 Tues. B+H Photo are in New York BTW.

Ah yeah, Amazon are good too. I've ordered stuff from there loads of times, usually books, music and games though not computer stuff. Can't fault them.

Ebuyer ... paying for them to take a package further away from me and then having to go and get it myself

I've been the unluckiest ebuyer customer ever, I've ordered from them 4 or 5 times and had to return a faulty item every time. They are generally cheaper than everywhere else though (hence why I keep returning).

It was pretty stupid that you couldn't go to the warehouse and pick items up or return them yourself (when they were based in Sheffield). I wanted to buy a laptop from them a couple of years ago but was in the middle of moving house so I wanted to pick it up instead of have it delivered. They said it wasn't possible, so I bought it from Insight instead (who were only too happy for me to pick it up).

I swear by ebuyer.com

A lot of people I know swear at ebuyer.

It seems to produce a very polarised set of responses, you either love or hate them.

I gathered a lot of people swore at eBuyer.
There was even an I hate Ebuyer site I belive.
I never used them as they had so much bad word of mouth.

for their sins ebuyer have got lots better since they moved, that was one of the reasons they moved, for more room for wearhouse and call center. i once had to go to their old wearhouse they were messing me around that much. but they have improved loads. would def recommend ebuyer, their online returns / warrenty is second to none!

Haven't dealt with Scan since a bad experience four years ago, but they now seem very good and even have a feedback forum on hexus net. I had cause to test Ebuyer's returns policy just a few weeks ago and found it excellent.

Used overclockers just yesterday and though their prices were good the delivery options aren't - cheapest was £8 next working day City link. From Ebuyer I could have chosen £3.50 five working days City Link.

And don't forget Crucial for memory. I'll be needing a 2GB Kit CT2KIT12864AA53E
which at Crucial has dropped from £60 to £49 over the past three weeks, but it is still stuck at £61 with Ebuyer.
