I've been reading some of the threads quite a bit recently, and we've all been getting worked up about alot of stuff... I hold my hands up and am guilty of this too.

As Christmas is coming (or so the ads on TV tell you), let's have some pre- festive cheer!

So... What's your favourite place in Sheffield and why?

Mine's where I live - Ranmoor. It's such a beautiful part of the city - the big old houses are lovely, and from my flat window (in winter), I have a fabulous view of the city. On Thursday night, it looked like a Christmas postcard.

I love Ranmoor.

My favourite place is on Totley road at the top.

I like it when one minute you are in Sheffield and the next you see countryside and peace and smells that are natrual.
I love to take a deep breath there.

Yeah, Ranmoor does have nice, well-built property.

Can't really make a judgement of your city as the only places I've been to are:
- Greystones - (a relative lived there) I don't remember it.
- Ranmoor - a different relative lived there before moving back south
-Nether Edge - seemed OK, a relative [the same that was at Greystones] lived there
Walkley - seems alright - that relative now lives there.

Next time you come to visit, you should go and have a look round. The city centre has really come on in the past few years, the town hall is lovely and there's the Peace gardens and the Winter gardens. In the summer time, it's funny watching the little kids work up the courage to run through the fountains.

At the very least, you should get yourself to one of our many watering holes...

I can't really think of a fave place at the mo..

I agree with the view you get from Ranmoor, it was amazing from my old flat living room window (Top floor flat), you could see the entire city, a really warming view :)

Please dont encourage young Mr Hudson to Drink Miss :p

He's only 16 (but does like his Stella! the best watering holes are the Bulls Head and Ranmoor Inn  )

I'm hard pushed to choose "my attic", but I think I will opt for the Cafe at Endcliffe Park, on a crisp november afternoon with the late watery sunshine just about getting a golden glint from the last leaves clinging to their trees.

I dig Ranmoor too, but mainly due to The Bull's Head and the best bistro in Sheffield, West 10. Not sure whether the expansion of the Indian Restaurant is what the area needs mind.

I live a little higher up in Lodge Moor and from the rear bedroom window I can see right over towards Upper Bradfield, a gorgeous view in any weather, esp. now with the snow.

Out of my front bedroom window I can see the observatory then out towards Redmires. Thus, in all, I think Redmires is my favourite place (apart from home) as it changes all the time, a bit like me!!

Probably not but did you ever see how busy that place got ?? we were hard pushed to get a table on a Tuesday evening once, they must be doing something right :)

Admittedly not. Do you remember when it was Toy Fayre? That too took up both shop units. It was like having your very own Redgates! Fair cop, I'm pleased to see any business thriving and guess I ought to pay a visit soon! (But if I'm going out for a bite, then I can't stay away from West 10 next door!)

I only lived there 6 months, reasons for moving beyond my control but I go back up whenever I can, I made great friends in the flats and local pubs..

Shocker, I've never been in West 10, I thought it was just a Wine Bar (wooops)

Deejay - get yourself in for a drink! It's mainly (top quality) wine and champers but there is some lager. My wife and I went for lunch there in summer and enjoyed it that much we sat on the terrace all afternoon. (I was then confronted with a bill for £135!)

But do try it - somewhere a bit special. As for the Bull, that's where I'm heading for in the next hour!!!!!!!

We used to live in a back street near Hunter's Bar. Although it was only a small house,it had a lawn and some beautiful flowers.Lying on the lawn in Summer ,reading and dozing off was great. Sounds of activity in the distance but no loud noises and the Porter and/or Lescar 5 minutes away ! Great little area that ; you felt you were surrounded by civilization or, at least, everything you needed .

I like Ecclesall Woods in nice weather, you get far enough away from the roads so you can't hear the traffic, you find a fallen tree trunk or somewhere to plonk your bum and then you just sit and let time pass.

15 years ago when I was a full time student, I lived in a big old house 905 Ecclesall road. It is right opposite Texaco filling station. And in the summer there was nothing better than sitting in the vast bay window, watching life coming and going. All the expensive sports cars would visit from Dore + Whirlow, and we had out motorbikes outside, and with all the students around, there were lots of nice young ladies passing too! ;)

I love Bradfield, not the school in Worrall, but High and Low Bradfield.

It's such a peaceful place ;) I've had some good times there.

I dont think I have one, there was a similar thread about a year ago and that also made me realise that I cannot think what my special place is in Sheffield :(

The view from my bedroom window is nice.

I also enjoy the restful experience of sitting on a bench in the winter gardens with a cup of coffee.

One or two pubs and bars with outside drinking areas probably make the list too, in the summer.

I like Riverlin, the top bit, out near the Post Office is best, but it's all nice.
The General Cemetary, for atmosphere, especially when it's covered in snow.
And I like that little garden opposite the Old Monk, with the sculptures in it.

I used to spend a lot of time on loxley and wadsley common when I was younger. and the bolehills is good when its not windy.
But my favorite place of all at the moment is my bed (I dont get to spend as much time with it as I would like)

Used to live in Commonside and there's a park in between Mushroom Lane and that bank of shops where Beanies grocers is. It's really nice - Sheltered from the majority of traffic sounds and on three tiered levels, I used go running (read that as jogging for a bit and then collapsing) around it and on weekends feed the ducks bread with the missus.

Quite a nice little corner of the city and certainly my favorite place in Sheff.

The cafe at the top of Endcliffe park, next to Forge Dam (I think), is the best, they do the most fantastic bacon butties and they dip the bread in the pan, not healthy but so good.

Bolehills. Standing atop the edge and looking out over Stannington. The views are absolutely breathtaking. Have been going up there for years now. Love it when the snow is on the ground too. :)

My living room. It's nearly finished  in soft, deep blues and purples (like john lewis' christmas colours this year), and the patio door looks out down a street full of victorian architecture and up a hill covered in fields and trees.

Totley woods is my second favourite spot. and the cricket inn on penny lane is compulsory after some light 'beagling'.

Has to be Lodge Moor for me.

I'm lucky enough to live there now, but even back when I was a junior in the 70's it was the best.

We lived at Arbourthorne and their were many day's we would pack a towel, pay the extortionate fare of 2 pence and ride the 51 all the way through to the terminus at the old Lodge Moor hospital.
From there we would walk up the road to Wyming Brook and lark about in the water.
It was a day out that even Skeggy could'nt beat.

Without any adult's might I add, imagine that these day's.

These day's it still has it all, gateway to the peaks, high fresh air, views looking down on most of Sheffield, a friendly welcoming community and fast easy access to the heart of the city.

I could go on but I feel this thread is a bit West sided.

That is why I want to give a shout out to WINCOBANK HILL.

I had to do a 7 year stint living at Page Hall and I know their is a lot of you living and enjoying it out there, but i hope I don't find myself living back there.

Anyway in the centre of housing hell rise's this hill, and if you just imagine the housing estates, kids on motor bikes, burnt out cars ect... away.
You get a picture of what the area must have been like a 100/200? years ago

I always found the big wide path that snakes it's way to the top enticing.
Following it through the woods and over steep ground you almost felt as if you could be in the Lake District, honestly.
Once at the top their are great views over the most important(historically) parts of the city.
Their is even an old roman road that still runs along the summit and I used to love running over it to Meadowhall where I worked for a year.

One final thing their is a grest view of Wincobank Hill from the Crucible Theatre toilets.

Ah memories, my fave place is one of two, the observatory up at lodge moor or the crags a little further on lodge lane, many hours of teenage angst!! oh i used to love sitting on the crags at night and watch the sun go down looking over rivilin. the observatory for when i was stressed and needed a good walk up there to clear my head, never got to actually go in there though sadly

I do love the view from my window over High Hazels Park (the top end), a sea of green in an otherwise pretty unattractive area, especially since Tinsley Golf Course ate into the original park - very nice and peaceful nowadays (about 500 yards away you have the Parkway!).

You can get some really eye-catching views of the area around the Arena/Meadowhall/Stadium from up near my old school off Prince of Wales Road... maybe not pretty, but interesting, especially compared to say 20 years ago!

Victoria Quays is a nice place too, although pretty quiet at times, but great around lunchtime, and has a quality sandwich shop :)

I think my favourite area has to be Loxley; nice countryside and reasonable housing too.

All Nether Edge seems to have, is a huge long road - Psalter Ln., and that is it. It's OK, though.

The little disused quarry just up past Sugworth Hall off the Strines. I could stay there forever, nice and peaceful, plenty of wildlife.
