MS has started banning all the 360's with flashed dvd drives, so if you have a 360 with a flashed drive prepare for your xbox serial number to be permanantly banned from live!!!

that is a good point! i wonder what microsoft would do if someone rang up and complained they had bought a banned one. the legalities of the ban could be interesting...

Also how can they tell if the console that will need unbarring has been actually sold to someone else and not still with the original user??
Unless they use I.P logging or something??

Didn't the original Xbox get banned if that was detected as being modded? In which case I can't see anybody being able to say anything to MS. It will be in the Terms of Service somewhere that they can do it.

I don't see why people who have modded consoles are whinging about this. Don't pirate games and rip off the games companies and you wouldn't have any issues.

I hate to be pedantic, but surely that's their own fault for not checking that it wasn't banned before they bought it?

If not, then congratulations, they've probably spent at least 200 quid on a brick.

Hardly a brick Rich i would take one off someone for £100... got to be worth it just for the fact you can take a jigsaw, paint and some LEDS and go to work onit, offline only console of cause but least would look better than the white / cream uber^ box we have to put up, without worrying about killing the securety sticker...

plus would make a bit of Home Rainbow 6 Network game much more fun, as the split tv screen on that game is just awfull.

but would be cool with 2 360 linked and having a full screen to your self ;) will blowing the miss's up !!!!!

They ban them on the serial number as far as I'm aware which will be hardcoded into the unit. It may be possible to change the serial depending on how and where it's stored - not looked into it to be honest.

I wonder if places like Game Station will be connecting all their second hand 360's stock to Live to see if they get banned ..?

but i think ( as far as i know ) to change the number of the console you still have to mess with the firmware, which in turn tells them its a bad 'un :hihi:

which came first the chicken or the egg :hihi:

:hihi: i doubt it they should look for the tell tail signs that it has not been cracked open, but like everything in life they are ways around this, hense why some "done" 360 have been sent back to MS and they passed them as "ok" So the local shops got no hope with spotin them, and even if they did try all of them onlive, then how would they sell them on once they know it was a no go on live console, they must have a fair few i would say, best for them just to live in ignorance..

if it keeps comeing back to the shop, so be it, someone along the road will want one like that, or my not ever want to go online so will never know anyway :hihi:

I found this on a website earlier today ....

1. Banned player sells banned Xbox 360 on Ebay.

2. New player signs up for the totally cool Xbox Live service that he heard so much about.

3. Gets bounced.

4. Calls Xbox Live Customer Service.

5. What will Microsoft do?

A. Reinstate the machine?
B. Tell the person "tough luck"?
C. Both, at random.

If they reinstate the box, this opens up the lazy circumvention strategy of skipping that whole "sell on eBay" thing and just try to get reinstated.

If they tell the person "tough luck"... Microsoft is going to have an UGLY CUSTOMER RELATIONS PROBLEM (followed by some nasty stories in the news) which should lead back to Answer A.

Even stupider option for Xbox Customer service - tell the naive purchasing person to "fix" their Xbox so that it isnt' hacked anymore.

I tend to argue strongly against banning. It is directly expensive and can have "highly entertaining" unforeseen consequences.

Also, if Microsoft hits "critical mass" with its banning activities, it may encourage the creation of a "guerrilla Xbox Live" that could spur further piracy.

What should Microsoft do?

That is at least a 3 beer question.

Well they dont admit to the overheating problem so i dont think they will "reinstate" anyones 360, will be just a case of tough luck much like what you get from them if you get 3 red lights after 1 year is up.

Tiz a shame really coz for the price its a great console, just i do wonder what MS are thinking half the time..

Its a easy way to win the "next gen" race mind... look we sold X millions

well yeah you would we had to buy 3 each just to get through till the xbox 3 ROFL.. ;)

Plus from what i read people have phoned them up saying live is down, they ask for the user name. which then tells them you have been bad.... so with everyone runing out to get a new 360, with the same username for the sake of gamescore, what will happen if you ask them for help with your new console? it will still say you broke the ruels in the first place :O

No there is nothing wrong with your live account all you have to do is buy a new 360 and put your old hard drive in and your box will connect. I also have heard the xboxes that microsoft fixed have been banned as they use the same parts that were used in the flashed xboxes which means they cannot tell the difference at all and they just do them all.

i heard of an unmodded xbox being banned!!!

the guy purchased a game from somewhere (dont know where) before uk release and was banned! my philosophy is i think if they see a game running on a system before release date they automaticaly think its a pirate game ie (downloaded) dunno?????

so beware of playing any games online before release. i know castle games in town usually sell copies before release.
