View Full Version : Yorkshire Day
I am not a Yorkshire person but Lancastrian. My husband and his family celebrate Yorkshire day as they are Yorkshire born but going around Sheffield today we saw perhaps 6 people wearing White Roses, why is it not a bigger celebration.
I remember when there were parades to celebrate Yorkshire day but now as many things in life it seems to have dissapeared why, are you in Yorkshire not proud of being a Yorkshire person.
I am proud of being a Lancastrian and I celebrate Lancashire day.
Tony Ruscoe 01-08-2003, 15:15 I'm from Bolton and proud of it!
Erm... when is Lancashire day?
BTW, these people wearing the white roses... are you sure they just weren't meeting each other on a blind date? Hehehe...
I`m from Bolton as well and Lancashire day is November 27th.
Where are you from in Bolton.

If they were on a blind date would it matter what colour the roses were?
DaBouncer 01-08-2003, 16:17 I didn't know it was Yorkshire Day till I saw the Register, I didn't even know one existed!
GHaywood 01-08-2003, 17:13 Me neither.
alchresearch 03-08-2003, 17:50 Sadly a long lost tradition, which needs to be revived. Some other counties, especially those in the south need to be reminded that Yorkshire is the finest county in Britain. Nobody speaks up more for us than Richard Whiteley - perhaps we could have an interview with him on the forum?
I celebrated by wearing a white rose and having Yorkshire Pudding in all three courses of an evening meal!
This celebration is a throwback to the civil wars in this country, who wants to be reminded of it? not me, I would rather forget it, as it is making a big thing out of violence.
DaBouncer 04-08-2003, 09:41 Erm, Yorkshire is a FORMER county. No longer the finest in the country. It is now in 4 sections. Which used to be 3!

Thanks for that... I'll put it in my diary! :D
And I'm from "Little Lever"
alchresearch 14-08-2003, 18:15 Could be worse Tony, you could be in Great Lever! I'm only down the road in Tyldesley.
Yorkshire/Lancashire day is a bit like flash mobbing, lots of people doing something surreal and lots of others wondering what's going on!! Hey Alchresearch, do you know Rob Speak?
.....shuddering to think that Richard Whiteley might ever speak for me, or represent me - but that is because I know he is a member of the Conservative Party, not because of his TV shows (which I quite like)
x

Don't think so. Should I?
No but I know him as he comes from Tyldesley, F2 + F1 Stockcar champion. I live in a world apart I guess. Never mind. As for Richard Whiteley, bit sad really, Dickie Bird was voted the thing most identified with Yorkshire. i would vote for Penn-y-Ghent above both of them. Hail Penn-y-Ghent.
